Religious and community leaders gathered outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices in Baltimore to protest the looming deportation of a Mexican woman who has four grandchildren in the United States.
Josefina Rodriguez Vega, a 58-year-old undocumented immigrant living in Hagerstown, Maryland, was arrested last June for driving without a license and turned over to ICE. After several months under house arrest, Rodriguez Vega was taken last Thursday to an ICE detention center on Maryland's Eastern Shore, far from her home. With the legal options all but exhausted, she now faces imminent deportation to Mexico.

She came here illegally.
Since 2008, she has been repeatedly cited for driving violations in and around Hagerstown. She currently doesn’t have a driver’s licence. She had one, but it was suspended. After it was suspended, she kept on driving anyway.
In September, she appeared before an immigration judge in Baltimore and was ordered to “voluntarily” leave the United States by January 5, 2012. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents placed a monitor bracelet on her ankle which she subsequently removed and destroyed.
She was picked up by ICE agents last week and is now sitting in a detention center in Baltimore awaiting deportation back to Mexico.
Some are calling for immigration officials to allow Rodriguez-Vega to stay in Maryland. Some of her friends and family protested outside immigration offices in Baltimore calling for the federal government to consider her for Deferred Action. It’s where the Department of Homeland Security chooses to simply ignore a deportation order. They describe her as a loving grandmother who just wants to be with her family.
The problem is, to be eligible for Deferred Action, a person cannot have a criminal record. Because Rodriguez-Vega was cited repeatedly for driving the streets of Hagerstown without a licence, she now has a criminal record, making her ineligible for the program. Plus, she illegally removed and destroyed the ankle bracket.

I’m glad to hear this criminal is being deported. I hope the Latino organizations that are supporting her use this as an opportunity to get mad at, and vote against, Obozo in November. It happened on his watch so turn on him. Stir up the Latino vote against Obama for deporting this poor, old grandma.

Actually, the real problem is that her deportation was delayed to begin with.
This gave her a chance to manufacture a sympathy plea despite her criminal history.
The post is incomplete, it does not tell us how to effectively counter the illegal alien lobby in this case!
This criminal shows an utter contempt for US law-—once they cross the border illegally, they decide none of our laws apply to them.
She kept driving w/out a license-—endangering Americans.
She removed the ankle bracelet so she could commit other crimes unseen.
L/E needs to determine how many identities she has-—using fake and forged documents to ride the US gravy train, sucking up tax dollars——and to vote illegally multiple times.

No sympathy ... if she has family here LEGALLY, then they know how to get her here LEGALLY.
Round ‘em all up ... just because someone covets what another person has, does not give the Church or any segment of society a right, rhyme or reason to defend the one coveting IF that person BREAKS THE LAW because of covetousness.
Broke the law to get here illegally, breaks the law by driving when she’s been told time and time again not to drive.
NO excuses ... it may appear to be ‘minor’ but the LAW is not minor.
Round them up, get DNA, deport them. Simple.
The cost of rounding up and deporting every illegal alien in this Country would pay for itself in less than two years. And the LIVES saved ....
Think about it ... this ILLEGAL DRIVER is an Auto-Accident away from killing a US Citizen. THEN ... she’s not a victim of immigration policy, she’s a perpetrator of homicide and all those Church people will look like the fools they really are.
I am sick and tired of the Church trying to make US Citizens feel shame for wanting our Constitution upheld. They should be preaching to the ILLEGALS and reminding them that covetousness and theft is SIN and they should go back ‘home’ and follow the rules to come to the USofA lawfully.

And Mexico isn't exactly like living in Mogadishu. People act as though being deported to Mexico is in itself a "punishment". What fools we Americans have become. There's nobody starving on the streets of Mexico, an Mexico is not anywhere near the worst place to live in this world, not by a long shot. These people just look over the border and see more than they have and want it; it's called ENVY, one of the 7 deadly sins.

By her age, you would think she would have more wisdom and intelligence, than to cross an international border illegally.
Not only did she come here illegally, she continues to show contempt for the laws of our nation.

I’d even be opposed to sending her back and telling her to apply for legal entry; she’s already amply demonstrated her utter disdain for our laws. Why should someone like that ever be allowed entry?
This abuelita has a disregard for the law which seems to be all to common with many citizens of Mexico since they have voted for corrupt politicians for several generations. A population who looks the other way at corruption is surely going to reap the whirlwind as they are doing now.
