Schmidt: GOP Establishment Will Have A Meltdown If Newt Wins Florida
RealClearPolitics ^

Posted on 01/21/2012 8:01:49 PM PST by VinL

Schmidt: "Not only are we not moving toward a coalescing of support with the establishment of Newt Gingrich, we're probably moving toward a declaration of war on Newt Gingrich by the Republican establishment. And if Newt Gingrich is able to win the Florida primary, you will see a panic and a meltdown of the Republican establishment that is beyond my ability to articulate in the English language. People will go crazy,"

And you will have this five week period until the Super Tuesday states that will be just as unpredictable, tumultuous as any period in modern American politics. It will be a remarkable thing to watch, should that happen in Florida."

Maddow: "Is there a component of that which is building a firewall around Mitt Romney, protecting him? We saw the establishment try to do that and Romney helping, saying “You can’t talk any smack about Bain. Bain is what I want to run on, it has to be positive, don’t undercut that at all.” Which to me, was like a flashing red neon arrow, “here’s my glass jaw, please don’t hit it.” Is there a way to protect Mitt Romney other than, I think, this wrong approach, Ithey’ve taken with Bain."

Schmidt: "I think everybody in the establishment Republican circles in Washington D.C. is fixated on the numbers we talked about earlier. Newt Gingrich has a 100% name ID, has a 60% national unfavorable number and it’s a number so high that with the 100% name ID it’s impossible to come back from. You’re not electable in a general election, in a 2012 presidential election if your unfavorable numbers are that high. Particularly against a president, that while vulnerable...

Wasn’t that a burden put on Reagan by the GOP machine? Correct me if I am wrong, please.

Beyond .....!!!!!!!!!
Special place in hell.

When they decide to blatantly mis-represent us
and choose their own vested political, personal
power, financial interests and Beltway bubbahood
over the good of this great nation, they earn the
rebukes and retribution they get, and I feel that
sentiment growing .. and as well for the shamestreams.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!

Did DeMint make any comments tonight?

Heard Newt picked up a pretty good-sized FL
Hispanic group’s endorsement tonight, and Marco
Rubio’s guy is running Newt’s FL Hispanic outreach.

Whew! What a night it must’ve been!! Was it
certain and obvious from the start? JUST WOW!

I think you pegged Romney’s debate technique perfectly. And I think you’re also right, when pressured, he gets visibly shaken. And, I think that’s what people saw- and I think that’s why the Establishment is now concerned. Romney tanking those last 2 debates, hurt him more than Gingrich winning them.

What happens when the Republican establishment turns on Gingrich?
***************

DNA, I think they’ve been against him from day one- don’t you? From what I can see, Newt’s working Tea Party, conservatives (indies, Reps and Dems), and the 50M who don’t usually vote because they’re disaffected (perot crowd)—

The elites of both parties will be his foils-— that’s how it looks to me, anyway.

Hilary Clinton used to have terrible negatives too, right, but she rehabilitated herself. People already took a second look at Newt in the primary twice. To think that the current national polls on him are a static number that cannot change as he gets a chance to reinvent himself on the national stage is just silly. Kerry was ahead of Bush since Kerry got the nomination and was still ahead by 7 points 4 months before the 2004 election, before he lost decisively.

I like Maddow’s comments on Mitt’s glass jaw being his record at Bain Capital. 30% of the vote in SC viewed Mitt’s Bain experience as a negative and almost all of those voted against him. We need to keep pointing out the sleazy stuff he did at Bain, e.g. borrowing money on companies, transferring it to Bain, and then watching those companies go bankrupt while Bain kept all the borrowed money under a different corporate “umbrella,” and the creditors could not lay claim to it.

Like Mark Levin said, Mitt Romney is more of a corporatist than a capitalist. Those attacks should be refined and explained better but must continue. He cannot be allowed to run as a businessman who claims he can fix the economy just like he “fixed up” companies. That account is a ridiculous fictional fabrication of what he actually did at Bain, which was little more than a big money Wall Street shell game.

In the early ‘90s Newt reportedly described himself as an “insider revolutionary.” IMO he hasn’t changed a bit. The idea that we can put a true outsider into Washington and expect them to know enough about how Washington works to take it apart and change it might be a pipe dream. It is far better to have a man on the inside who knows the system and who is committed to taking the system down from the inside.

A classic example would be last night after he rambled on for several minutes without answering the question, he actually had to ask “where were we?” That was when Newt paused and smiled with subtle sarcasm, then said “Gee Mitt, I don’t know”. It was a masterful execution on Newt’s part and demonstrated what an impressive communicator he is. I highly recommend watching that moment again as I don’t think most people appreciated it. It’s worth a rewind.

Funny, I said to my wife at that moment, "The robot doesn't have an answer and his circuits got shorted".

Now all he needs is to avoid Reagan's mistake of choosing a RINO as VP

Reagan was hated by establishment Republicans, and of course by all Democrats, from the beginning. He was that generation's Sarah Palin (if she had stayed in).

The establishment Republicans sent in GWH Bush as both a CIA Handler (He was formerly the head of the CIA) and to keep Reagan in check.

I remember him as one of the most visible VP's in my memory, GWH was.

The Establishment forced Reagan to take him.

I don’t think a Perry selection would add anything to the ticket.

Ryan is liked by most conservatives and his selection would throw a bone to the establishment types.

I would like to see him as president someday but as a congressman he has no pathway there, eg Hunter, Bachman, etc. A VP nomination would give him that.

I might believe all these “pro-Newt” posts, if only his actions, statements, and words over the last few years didn’t betray something for different.

I have posted several times in regards to Newt and his “Manmade Global Warming” fiasco - and while I have read posts claiming that Newt has distanced himself from that position - his official platform includes support for “green energy” and “alternative fuels” to “protect the environment”. That doesn’t sound like someone who has forsaken his wrong position - just softening it up to try to gain voters.

Newt is unabashedly soft on illegal immigration.

And I suppose the party of “moral high-ground” really isn’t any more....

Believe me, I fully grasp the concept that we MUST get Obama out of office. And I absolutely refuse to vote for Mitt Romney for even dog catcher. I firmly believe that, just as I have posted before, that our only hope is someone who is soundly Conservative, and who can “rally the troops” - There are no Republican candidates left who can, in my eyes, energize the party and the grass roots. Herman Cain was the closest - but his bad decisions flushed his campaign down the toilet.

Maybe you hadn't noticed, but lately there's been a rash of freepicide amongst Freepers in your class.

Don't know what it is, but a lot of folks who joined up around that time are suddenly developing strong disagreements with the founder, and FR in general. I've seen a lot of them up and quit, or invite JR to ban them.

From what I've observed, most of them have had objections to JR's clamping down on Romney and Paul supporters on the site. A lot of them have complained that zotting such people only creates an echo chamber, or that differing viewpoints are being shut out.

That surprises me, because Jim clearly says in his mission statement, that he feels no obligation to provide a forum for liberals, statists, RINOs, and doom and gloomers to spread their demoralizing message here.

Your post looked a lot like others I've seen that disagree with that.

Half of my comment was tongue 'N cheek, the other half is worthy of discussion.

The TP could keep him in line, along with the appropriate Congress.

The GOP on the other hand is clearly pure RINO establishment.

This ship will not be turned on a dime, that is, it's taken many a year to get to where we are. This could begin the turn, unless you have a better suggestion?

Love your new tagline!

Rebellion is here!

The Tea Party Movementis alive and well, an example of getting stronger as the establishment attempts to kill it.

Schmidt is a sneaky back stabbing BFF of Rove's who, along with Romney's people, stabbed Palin in the back when she was chosen to be McCain's running mate.

And Schmidt is a political commentator on MSNBC, don't know when they hired him.

Plus I'm sure Maddow has a special love for him as he has a homosexual daughter, and supports the homosexual agenda.

Yup, they fear the Tea Party Movement and well they should!
