A Naughty Newt, A Bitter Ex and Misplaced Rage
Townhall.com ^ | January 22, 2012 | Doug Giles

Posted on 01/22/2012 5:56:00 AM PST by Kaslin

As a Christian, I will neither defend nor excuse Newt’s past adultery. That said, after watching his ex-wife Marianne go off on him on ABC, as a man, I now get why he supposedly wanted an “open marriage.” Holy crikey. That chick is scary! Hell hath no fury like a furry woman. That’s one angry, gangrenous ex-Gingrich chica right there, folks. Let’s see … what do we have here? Lonely and bitter? Table for one?

Now, before I get my inbox stuffed with hate mail labeling me insensitive, calling Newt a cad, and painting Marianne as a damsel in distress, let me state up front that … I know … he was … and oh, please.

Someone help me here. When did Marianne start giving a crap about Gingrich committing adultery? She didn’t mind his “open marriage” policy when she was doing the fig Newton with him while he was married to his first wife, Jackie. I’m sure if the Speaker’s initial esposa were still around she’d have some choice words to share about this duplicitous dame. Alas, she is not. But I imagine that Jackie is in heaven right now watching this sordid ABC tabloid smack screaming, “Hey, Jezebel! Go sell crazy somewhere else, devil bird!”

Yep, this is the same Marianne who was spooning Newt while his wife was in the hospital. Oh, I forgot. I’ve transgressed. I cannot blame Marianne for her adultery. Only guys, especially conservative guys, are the villains in an adulterous affair. Women, according to the lame stream media and the loons on the Left, are helpless victims who are not responsible for their wanton ways. Hallelujah. Ain’t that convenient?

Now, Newt, according to his own admission, was a scallywag. But also according to his own admission, he has repented. Is it BS? I don’t know. All I know is that when people verbally repent we’re supposed to forgive them. I believe that’s how the Jesus movie went. And it looked as if lots of South Carolinians were ready to forgive Gingrich judging from the standing ovation they gave him after he horsewhipped John King when he brought up Newt’s past peccadilloes.

Oh, and by the way, I believe according to Christ that if you look at a woman lustfully you’ve committed adultery in your heart in His holy estimation. In other words, we’re all guilty, and Jesus is the only one ever to navigate that tightrope successfully. As Dennis Miller once said, “He that hath an empty hand, let him throw the first stone.”

Boy, the Left is grasping at straws, aren’t they? They think they have breaking news about Newt’s randy ways. Uh, hello. This stuff has been out there and dealt with now for fifteen years. Fifteen years. As in One Five. But that’s just it: divert, divert, divert—talk about Newt 15 years ago rather than about what Obama has been doing for the last 15 months! Also, you do know that if Gingrich were a Democrat and we found out he just had a chunky female volunteer shine his apple on his election bus 15 hours ago that he’d be hailed as a rock star and defended for his wang dang ways.

My final assessment of this puritanical witch-hunt against Gingrich instigated by the anti-puritanical Left is this: I’m concerned more about how Obama’s policies have radically screwed this nation more than who Newt boinked two decades ago.

What did she expect? Given that she was his slut before she was his wife, did she really think he’d be an honorable man? She got what she deserved and may Newt get his.

A trip down memory lane here on FR, circa 1996-7, would reveal thousands and thousands (perhaps millions) of indignant posts all connecting the character defect (sin actually) with a diminished capacity to lead. Now, of course, the shoe fits a different foot.

There is a great difference in degree. First, Clinton had a long history of womanizing, which he would not admit too. This made him vulnerable to blackmail. This was a very reasonable concern, considering the fact that he lied under oath to cover it up. Secondly, his womanizing was ongoing. Third, he was plausibly accused of rape.

Newt's first marriage began as a relationship between a teacher and a sixteen-year-old boy (Newt). Catholics could consider this marriage null, because of a lack of consent. The failure of his second marriage does not appear to be excusable. But even here, the marriage would be null, because this wife was previously married, and not free to remarry. Still, this doesn't justify his initial relationship with Callista.

Newt and Clinton's behavior patterns are significantly different, but I don't expect Newt's opponents to analyze his behavior objectively.

I disagree. If there was evidence that Newt was screwing everything he could find a la Clinton, I wouldn't vote for him unless there was no alternative - which is close to where we are at now anyways.

If there was evidence, Mitt & the Establishment would have already revealed it. A man who has a religious conversion in his 60s usually takes it pretty serious. A man in his late 60s tends to think about what legacy he can leave behind more than how many holes he can stick his pecker in.

20 years ago, I wouldn't have voted for Newt for dogcatcher. But this isn't 1992. Newt isn't in his 40s. And I don't believe the values Newt practiced in the 80s are the values he carries now.

my mother is a private person. She will not give media interviews. She deserves respect and should be allowed to live in peace.

What world are you living in? This is America. We have a right to peer into your bedroom window and record for posterity what goes on there. And it is the job of our media to investigate and report so we can decide. Privacy? Where in the US Constitution is there a right to privacy? /sarcasm/

I won’t flame you, I’ll just calmly point out that your comparisons have glaring holes in them, making your conclusion totally flawed.

And I won’t bore you with what they are, because if you really cared, you would already know. You, as is your right, just want to throw a tantrum. You’ve done it.

Since you want to make this personal, I should tell you that, actually, I think you’d be very pleased if you lived in mine. I was speaking of our culture in general; not trying to invade your personal life or invite you into mine. I’m sure you are a delightful lady who is rightly treated as one. Sorry if you took my general comment personally. Wasn’t intended so.

“. I am so tired of flawed and fallen people that regard the Bible as passe.”

I agree, but not voting isn’t the answer. Fighting back against the leftists, corruption, and elitists is the answer. Encourage and finding good people willing to serve in politics.

If you don’t vote then you are a subject and not a citizen and to hell with you. Anyone taking this route is worse than the leftists, at least they are willing to fight for what they want.

I have done that in Church. Sometimes it’s hard not to, the way some women dress in Church these days.

When a journalist makes such a major error, the rest of the story needs to be tossed into the trashcan.

Journalists are becoming very lazy and very bigoted.

Just tired of the defeatist attitude. I’d wager most of those people have never been to a political meeting.

Conservatives outnumber the leftists by a wide margin in America. We should be controlling the debate instead of reacting to them.

So you are not flawed or fallen? I don’t think anyone here is happy with Newts shortcomings, but none of us are any less a sinner. Remember king David was an adulterer AND a murderer, and God called him a man after His own heart. If God can forgive and use broken vessels who are we to judge? Of course the Bible counts, in fact more than anything else, but you don’t get to pick and choose the parts to use.

Sorry wasn’t referring to you specifically, just the quitters out there in general.

Yes morals matter, until we have a perfect candidate we have to deal with the choices available.

Quitting, was the attitude that made Pelosi and Reid the majority leaders in the 2006 congressional election and got that arrogant, lazy, lying pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave elected

Newt is far from perfect but IMO he’s better than Mittens, Santorum, or crazy eyes Paul.

If we don’t get BO out of office we are truly done.

I havent substantiated this for myself, but my understanding from a post I read earlier today, that the 2nd ex was trying to peddle influence. If that is true, Newt had very good reasons for saying goodbye.
