It's little wonder that with such cute faces peering out over the edge of their plastic bowl, these eight abandoned puppies have found new homes.
But their futures could have been a lot bleaker.
The puppies and their mother, a mongrel named Amy, had been found by a farmer stuffed inside a bale of hay on his land in Newark.
But now, following an appeal by local newspaper the Lincolnshire Echo, the eight six-week old puppies have found caring owners ...
The mother was discovered with a rope tied around her neck which she had bitten through. ...

REFL. You are not alone. There are times I swear my critters have marked me with a sign, visible only to other critters, that says ‘soft hearted human here.
When I went to a local no kill shelter to get one kitty companion for an old lady kitty, I came home with two siblings.
I think we have a far different view these days. Perhaps we have gone overboard in some ways (the vegan craze and I mean the ones who think NO ONE should eat anything that had a face and would like to legislate it etc).
But we are far less cruel and even in our uses of animals for the most part we are concerned about their well being.
I try not to judge people out of their time, since people are a result of how they were raised and the culture around them, but all of that sounds pretty darned bad.
In the picture with the 3 puppies, the black boy on the right looks to be mighty handsome when he grows up. I’d pick him if I lived in the country. I assume he is a male because he’s got the look of a big dog and a boy.

She’s a dead ringer for our Casey, who passed away at 14 several years ago. Still miss her.
There must be a special punishment for those who abuse harmless animals......... Thank goodness they all found good homes.
Just recently, I read of someone stabbing 3 minature horses to death in a woman’s backyard! There are very evil people loose.
Thanks Joe
I came by a cat that way once.
Ahh! Golden Retrievers...Truly one of God’s greatest gifts to humans, and my favorite breed..
They want one thing only from life, and that is to be your friend and faithful companion...
We still miss our Maggie, and are not yet ready to “replace” her (impossible)...But when we adopt another dog, it will also be from the shelter...
I’d have to let the dog choose me; I don’t think I could pick any one from that litter of puppies...
My fraternal grandfather was a town marshal in Iowa during the Depression, and one of his duties was to catch stray dogs and cats, take the animals out to the town dump, and “dispose” by shooting them...
But Grandpa Fred was kind hearted and loved animals, so he quietly took them home, fed them, and kept them in his home until he could find a good home...
We get so much from out pets and they ask for little or nothing in return, except a warm dry place to sleep, enough to eat and our affection...
The little black one on the right looks just like my Lindo looked when she rescued me.
There are worse marks to have. :-) Color me crazy, but Dog's just "know."
I’ll have other people’s dogs running up to me. Sometimes cats will approach me. They know I like them so they’ll come over. There’s a woman who walks her Bichon Frise past my house and it comes up to me all the time. The dog’s name is Dolly and she is adorable.
Love animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, do not harass them, do not deprive them of their happiness, do not work against God’s intent.
Man, do not pride yourself on your superiority to animals: they are without sin, and you, with your greatness, defile the earth by your appearance on it, and leave the traces of your foulness after you.
Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821 - 1881)
THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV
Lucky cat! That little black and white dog slept with his head on a satin pillow for the rest of his life.
It was bad, Brytlea. It seriously disturbed my parents even as children. At the time, no one spayed or neutered. I don’t know if that procedure just wasn’t done at the time or if people just didn’t choose to do it. I think you hear a lot more about spaying and neutering now (thank goodness). Yes... I totally agree that type of treatment toward animals certainly isn’t one tolerated today and thank goodness for that!
The funniest story I think I ever heard was from a neighbor lady friend. Years back, her sister was telling her about this poor dog that was kept outside 24/7. No shelter at all and water was if and when the so called owner thought about it. The owner had made it known that they were considering taking the dog to the pound. So, Jo and her sister drove over in the hopes that the owner would give her the dog. The owner wasn’t there and Jo saw this poor mixed breed dog, all muddy with matted hair and thin. No food bowl or water bowl. Jo said she didn’t know what “possessed” her but she climbed the fence, grabbed the dog, lifted it over the fence to her sister and then climbed back over. What is hysterical to me about this story is Jo was wearing a skirt, panty hose and heels. On her climb back over, her skirt got caught, hose ripped to shreds, heel fell off of one shoe.. but she got over. It was her best and most favorite dog in the world!
What a great story!
The dog that I stole was about 8 months old. I asked at the cafe who owned him. He and a pack of dogs were milling around the parking lot, looking for food, I guess. They said he was owned by some people down the street who got puppies and when they grew up they stopped taking care of them and got another puppy.
That was all I had to hear, he was into my car and I was gone. I didn’t even have to climb a fence. LOL!
The other dogs I didn’t exactly steal, I was even more brazen. Relatives ask me to watch their puppies for them (until it was convenient for them) for a few months and then I refused to give them back. Let that be a lesson to you, don’t ever ask me to dog sit. :D
Puppies are the best bump.
Oh, I’m sorry to hear about your Casey. I still miss everyone I’ve lost. And I know that at almost 12.. Well, I’m not going to think about it. She is one of those silly dogs with some odd habits. I think I caused that because I carried her around all the time before she was weaned. She was the most rotten baby. I hope you got another dog. I know you can never replace one, but it always helps (me anyway) to have another one to absorb some of the love.
