U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will step down from Congress this week to focus on her recovery, her staff announced Sunday. "I have more work to do on my recovery, so to do what is best for Arizona, I will step down this week," Giffords said in a video message. Giffords, a third-generation Arizonan who served five years in the state Legislature before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2006, will not seek re-election this fall. Giffords vowed to return public service. "I will return and we will work together for Arizona and this great country," she said.

We wish her well and a full recovery, but it is time to get another GOP seat in Congress. That could be the next district we live in when we leave CA.

Well, God Bless, Gabby.

Hang in there..

There are things more important in life than wielding power and holding a fancy title.

Good luck to both you and Mark.

I wish her well, I really do.

I remember reading that she, along with other members, were working on a piece of legislation that either rolled back Congressional salaries or spending just prior to the savage attack. If so, I think Congress should move forward with that piece of legislation.

My prayers for her continued recovery.

Her husband has retired, I think. All in all, it would be better to be home and concentrate on her health and marriage.

Best wishes to her.

But to the vermin who blamed the shooting on Palin, I hope you rot in hell.

I'm not surprised by this, as she is looking at a lengthy recovery..

I share little in common with her politically, but I wish nothing but the best for her family and her.

How sad that a sick deranged left wing nut can end the career of one of the dwindling number of moderate democrats.

I also wish her the best.

I have to respect her for knowing what's best for her and not hanging around just to keep the seat for her party and letting staffers run things like the Dems often do.

Hope she can come back someday.

This is a good decision on her part. She is unable to represent the citizens of her district.

I’m with you- Tucson Arizona was one of the most beautiful places I ever lived

I went outside every day

Didn’t even get a car (rode my motorcycle everywhere)

The heat is NOT as bad as you might thing because it is dry- i loved it there and am loooking for a way to go back as soon as possible

The shooting occurred at a store I went shopping at every week.

Gosh, the woman took a bullet to the head and went through hell. Even as a dyed-in-the-wool conservative she’d have my vote had she run. God help her.

She wasn’t a blue dog, unless you mean a lap dog for Pelosi. She never, ever defied the Democrat party on anything. On occasion, she would get a kitchen pass to allow her to vote the way her constituents wanted, but ONLY if her vote wasn’t needed.
