The controversial Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas is at it again. Now, the church said it will picket the funeral of the legendary Joe Pa -- longtime Penn State football coach Joe Paterno who died on Sunday morning.
Joe Paterno died on Sunday. The controversial Westboro Baptist Church tweet Sunday after the news that it planned to picket Paterno's funeral.
Margie Phelps, wife of Westboro Baptist Church leader Fred Phelps, sent out several tweets on Sunday after news of Paterno's death spread. The church, known for its controversial positions, suggested Paterno is going to hell.
"Joe Paterno is dead. WBC will picket his funeral. He's in hell. Don't partake of your neighbor's sin," read one tweet from "MargieJPhelps," a Twitter user.
"No RIP Joe Paterno. No peace in hell!" read another.
"Stop pimping out your kids to raping coaches. WBC must picket Paterno funeral," read yet another.
No arrangements for Paterno's funeral have been announced as of Sunday afternoon.

They should picket Sandusky and everyone who helped him hide his crimes by staying silent.
That part of PA clings to their guns and religion..
WBC is in for a rude awakening!
The WBC and the entire Phelps family are ne kulturniy, .
Pronounced: nyeh kool-toor-knee, accent on the toor.
Wait until these idiots meet 100,000 Penn State faithful.
State College, PA does not cling to guns & religion. Areas outside of that town do, for sure. But State College is a bastion of limp-wristed liberals.
Publicity Whore Baptist Church strikes again.
There was a soldier from my home town in northern Michigan who was killed in Afghanistan recently and Westoro posted on their website that they were going to protest the funeral. They never showed up.....
The cost of traveling across the country for all the funerals is astronomical so what Westboro does is post their protest plans on their site, which is picked up by the MSM, then let the MSM do what it does best, publicize their twisted message while the Westboro kooks sit home and get their free advertising........
Given the high profile image of Paterno, they may turn up but I doubt it.........
“I don’t think he & his family deserve this.”
True they don’t deserve a visit from WBC, but they don’t deserve all the praise & adoration either. This man was complicit in child rape. He should be shunned.
Ha ha. You got that right. PSU students like to riot, even without a reason.
Oh, somebody’s gonna get hurt.
The Paterno family does not deserve this. Westboro Baptist Church has no shame. But if its protest here is greeted with more media outrage, or violence, or more people blocking them, than when Westboro Baptist Church protests the funerals of servicemen who died as heroes saving the lives of other men and women and armed combat . . . that will say something about everyone.
This seems to be the first occasion, though, on which the Westburros are trying to do something even slightly helpful. You know these chickens never turn up at “gay pride” marches and the like, and only bug soldiers who by a vast majority abhorred homosexuality while they were alive. At least the Westburros are protesting this man who actually turned a blind eye to egregious homosexual sexual abuse, though his fate with God might be a question up in the air (if he got right with Christ, this highly damaging sin was not the unforgivable sin).
“They should picket Sandusky and everyone who helped him hide his crimes by staying silent.”
Joe Paterno fits in that category as he helped Sandusky hide his crimes and remained silent.
Yeah can’t wait
Pass the popcorn this going be good
Joe Paterno was fired from his job but it is not clearly known or yet to be proven in court exactly what he knew, when he knew it and what exactly he did or didnt do about it. So far we only have media reports, some of which I take with a grain of salt because I take nearly everything the MSM says now days.
Am I a Joe Pa fan or supporter? No. Not at all. But even if Paterno was complicit in a cover up, what good does having these freaks show up at his funeral going to do? Its not helpful by any stretch of the imagination. If anything it will garner more support for Paterno. And even if Paterno should have and could have done more, why does his family not deserve to bury their family member in peace and without the circus of the Westboro media whores.
These people (Westboro) are without conscience and nothing they do is for a good reason.
If they show up, they might get their arses kicked so bad they will not know whom to sue.
Too bad these idiots never learned the virtues of discretion and moderation. They might actually have something useful to say about Paterno, but no they will shove their feet five feet deep in it.
Their SCOTUS-affirmed First Amendment rights will some day meet a Second Amendment challenge.
It’s difficult to believe Paterno was insulated from all the smell that was coming from below.
Like the guy who got caught with what, 100,000 kiddie porn photos on his computer, and he tells the judge no, he doesn’t get horny on this kind of stuff. Well I guess there would be a way to prove that (they do it before letting past pederasts go from civil commitment, which is seldom that it happens) but it seems obvious he didn’t try. The judge said balderdash. The same about Paterno.
Beat ‘em up, beat ‘em up, go State go!
Without question it is absolutely disgusting that Joe Paterno would not call legal authorities when he was told that Sandusky was raping children in the PSU Football team’s showers.
Is the Westboro Baptist Church a member of a group of Baptist Churches or is it a single church organization under the leadership of Fred Phelps?
Im not defending Paterno. I am saying that I abhor the WBC and everything they stand for (which is lining their pockets). They are nothing but scam artists and media whores. When they threatened to protest the deaths of 7 innocent children in a house fire here in PA, I stood against them. Nothing they do is for a good reason, ever, even if every once and a while you might find the person they are protesting against somehow deserving, they still vile and contemptible. By giving them any credit for doing the “right” thing you are giving them credit for also protesting the deaths of innocent children and of our troops killed in action. Never give these vile people even an inch. You can call Paterno out for what he did or didn’t do but don’t give these people even an inch of credit. They have no morals.
That may be but there are some Penn State football players and former football players that might take exception.
What truly loathsome cretins they are ..
Well, like they say about blind pigs and acorns....
Along with about 20 Freepers?
It is a stand alone, one of a kind thing that isn't even what any evangelical or ecumenical group would call Christian, with a pretense to being Old Testament style prophets (but not non-profit prophets). Christian Baptists take the name of Baptists for their denominations because they hold that believers in Christ, rather than infants too young to be able to believe, should be ritually baptized. I don't even know what these Westburro jokers think they are baptized in... bull merde?
Kinda strange that they aren’t protesting the actual child molester himself.
Guess that one hits a little close to home for Phelps.
“They should picket Sandusky and everyone who helped him hide his crimes by staying silent.”
See there in lies a problem, JoePa “helped” too. He did not report it to the police. He did not fire Sandusky. I am sorry he is just as guilty.
“Along with about 20 Freepers?”
No but I’d be willing to dance on his grave afterwards.
So this kooky church is now playing God; deciding for themselves who is and who is not going to hell.
they’ve been doing that all this time.
I agree with this one.
Ultra lib pro homosexual Penn State created the atmosphere where “man/boy love” was permitted.
Paterno knew of at least one rape and failed to call the police.
He deserves to be remembered as a child rapist enabled as that’s precisely what he was.
oh I’m sure they will be well armed with their own cameras to record who they will sue later.
This is how they operate.
Do people really think these bozos give a crap about their “faith”???
They need funds - so they provoke people into a court case.
If this were a Christian church, they would be preaching the doctrine from the Bible about how one goes to heaven or hell, and not opining on matters that may have transpired between man and God they have no insight into. They could condemn the man’s known acts but not the man — insufficient information is available at present for the latter.
These kooks presume to be Old Testament style prophets, but ones that can peg a person’s eternal destiny (except in a few cases to confirm that it was heaven) would be foreign to Old Testament doctrines.
What I don’t get is how he lived with himself all those years knowing what Sandusky did.
I know men love their football but damn don’t they have a conscience?
Thank you for bringing up the big question.
I think I have the answer.
It would interrupt his power and tarnish his image.
The man was a king.
He thought this would all just go away.
In short, his ego took over.
it is one family headed by a twisted mentally ill man.
This is no faith quest - this is a scam.
This is how they raise funds.
Choose an emotionally charged crowd and incite them with hateful provoking signs and chants.
Make sure your camera guy is ready to get all the action recorded.
Bring the footage with you to court to help you win another case.
Administrators of rural cemeteries go to great lengths to protect the protesters from Westboro.
The administrators work with local law enforcement to establish a safe area (roped off ) where LEOs stand on guard to protect the protesters. The roped off area just happens to be out of sight and out of hearing of the family of the deceased.
According to what I have been told it works. They rarely if ever show up if they can't be seen or heard.
People in rural areas do have their ways of handling things like Westboro.
You said they. So, apparently, as judge and jury, youve determined Joes family is also guilty.
