Davos elites to seek reforms of 'outdated' capitalism

Economic and political elites meeting this week at the Swiss resort of Davos will be asked to urgently find ways to reform a capitalist system that has been described as "outdated and crumbling."

"We have a general morality gap, we are over-leveraged, we have neglected to invest in the future, we have undermined social coherence, and we are in danger of completely losing the confidence of future generations," said Klaus Schwab, host and founder of the annual World Economic Forum.

"Solving problems in the context of outdated and crumbling models will only dig us deeper into the hole.

"We are in an era of profound change that urgently requires new ways of thinking instead of more business-as-usual," the 73-year-old said, adding that "capitalism in its current form, has no place in the world around us."

Some 1,600 economic and political leaders, including 40 heads of states and governments, will be asked to come up with new ideas as they converge at eastern Switzerland's chic ski station for the 42nd edition of the five-day World Economic Forum which opens Wednesday.

It’s these very same “elites” that have mucked it up in the first place.

I think their cure will be far, far worse than the disease!

I can’t wait to hear Newt’s “take” on this swell plan. I also hear that the Occupy creeps are camped out in Davos and poised to ceate havoc (good).

I saw an article a while back from the guy who owns Formula 1, he’s one of those Davos elites. He said the same thing and openly supported totalitarian government.

They don’t want the little people endangering their way of life.

Good idea. :)

Well since no one is going to stop them, why not? :)

I agree. But not in the sense Mr. Bureaucrat means it.

We have to stop using the Marxist term, "capitalism." Free enterprise, the free market, or free exchange are all preferable terms, and describe the "system" better.

In reality, the marketplace isn't an artificial construct. It is simply the state of nature. Exchanging goods and services is as natural as breathing. Socialism is an artificial and harmful political construct.

Thats not a problem with capitalism, its a problem with the people who over-leveraged, borrowing money they didn't pay back, who were immoral, who undermined social coherence, who spent the patrimony of future generations and now want more power over the very economy they ruined.

They don’t want the little people endangering their way of life.

That's the thing about the free market (a term I prefer to the word Marx coined "Capitalism"): it makes the fortunes of the established rich unstable. In the free market, there's always a chance that a Steve Jobs or Bill Gates will come along and change things around and make worthless their investments in obsolete technologies and ways of doing business.

Yep. If they REALLY want to fix the problem, they should get rid of all the “too big to fail” laws and regulations and let the marketplace work for once. Then they wouldn’t have to meet in Davos.

I believe the Bolsheviks have already tried that, back around 1917.

How do you reform something that does not exist anywhere in the world? “Capitalism” is the word the ruling classes use to mean they don’t have enough power.

"capitalism in its current form, has no place in the world around us."

What a bunch of malarkey! The D.C. Elites have gutted Capitalism in the U.S. and replaced it with pseudo-socialism and then claim Capitalism doesn't work.

Douglas Niles Adams said once: "They'll be first against the wall when the Revolution starts!"

I'm thinking its about time we designate a Wall and who goes first!
