CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.— Rick Santorum kicked off his Florida campaign here Sunday by aiming directly at Newt Gingrich. “It’s great to be glib, but it’s better to be principled,” the former Pennsylvania senator told a crowd of more than 200 standing in a hot parking lot of a strip mall in this town outside Fort Lauderdale.
Santorum dismissed the idea that the South Carolina primary reshaped the race into a Gingrich-Mitt Romney face-off. Saturday’s results could very quickly be overshadowed by the Jan. 31 Florida primary, in which he’s hoping to reemerge as a factor. “You have three candidates who can be president. That wasn’t the case moving into South Carolina,” he added, referencing Jon Huntsman and Rick Perry’s withdrawal from the race. “Florida can now step back and say, ‘Okay…who is the candidate that we here in South Florida should put our seal of approval on?

Coburn is my Senator...I’ve heard him speak of it (I didn’t need to read about it later). Newt kited thousands of dollars in checks and Santorum was among the “freshment” that exposed him.

Do not dislike Santorum in general terms, but the more he bashes Newt, he becomes a turn off.
If “RP” you mean Ron Paul...yes his attacks are petty and whiney. If you are tying Santorum with petty or whiney, you haven’t followed him at all. Contrasting himself with other candidates is perfectly healthy and I could only see a nut like Romney or Obama complaining about it.
[Newt is unelectable, erratic, grandiose, worrisome, unstable, undisciplined, untrustworthy, unreliable, risky, unfocused and explosive. He basically said that you never know what you’ll get with Newt in charge.]
And yet he had high praise for the Speaker, and even said he would be the one he would pick as his VP, and ticked off a bunch of good reasons. So was he lying then or is he lying now?
Those who have what it takes to lead, demonstrate that leadership, and stick to comparing their records and their results. Those who have little results and less leadership ability try to make them selves look better by tearing others down. It always reflects poorly on them.

House banking scandal
The more recent significant corruption scandals have centered on abuses of power, as opposed to the bribery, influence-peddling controversies of the past.
In 1992, many House members were suspected of bouncing checks from accounts they held at the so-called "House Bank" -- a loose operation that allowed member of Congress to cash their checks but kept shoddy records and often were quite delayed in recording deposits or withdrawals.
Although the lawmakers had broken no laws and many did not even know they were bouncing checks, several took advantage of the bank system and many voters viewed the scandal as a blatant abuse of power.
Of the 296 sitting representatives and 59 former members who had overdrafted their personal accounts in the preceding 39 months, the House Ethics Committee released a list of the 24 worst abusers. Twenty were Democrats, although Republican Rep. Tommy Robinson of Arkansas was the worse offender, with 996 overdrafts.
Congressional Democrats attempted to explain that the scandal was a problem with the banking system, not their party.
Conservative columnist David Gergen said on the NewsHour at the time, "[The Democrats] let it get out of control. That's the critical charge against the Democrats. When you're in power too long, you become arrogant."
Republican leaders used the scandal to accuse all Democrats of corruption and abuse of power. Republican Minority Whip Newt Gingrich of Georgia would make reforming Congress part of his Republican revolution of 1994 that gave his party a net gain of 54 seats in Congress and the GOP control of the House for the first time in 40 years.
I, as a Santorum supporter, am thrilled that newt won SC. Happy he fought that inevitable romney bs, happy he slammed the MSM.
But I’m disgusted by the meanness against Santorum around here. You all are cold. You are just thisside of propriety from being like google to the poor guy.
We need newt to fight Obama. But if newt can’t get there, Santorum might be the next best. Hes not hurting anyone right now. I’d like to see Freepers not being so below the belt ugly toward Santorum. It sure is not endearing.

First, I didn’t call Newt a RINO (even though his record on the subject is in dispute). I am not FREE REPUBLIC...I am an idividual poster and thus far I have no specific mandate for me to stop being a free thinker and submit like a sheep to the demands of any goose-stepping masses. The last time I looked, I have a brain, I am not a slave, and anyone who thinks so....I spit on that. You wish to have an echo chamber and I refuse to comply...so what?

I have yet to determine if Newt is above or below that 80%, but many of his supporters are certainly falling short.
