Chief Dan Kingsley of the Silver Lake Police Department has announced that Firearms Training Officer, Keith Kerwin will be offering CCW training classes in Silver Lake. Officer Kerwin will be teaching the DOJ Recommended 4 hr classes. Interested persons or if you have questions can call the Police Department at 262-889-4100 or email the Police Department at slpolice@bizwi.rr.com. Successful completion of this course will allow citizens to apply for a WI Conceal and Carry permit. Cost is $75, or $60 if you are a resident of Silver Lake.

This is an interesting item for those who believe that the police are opposed to armed citizens. Nice to see that the police in Silver Lake, Wisconsin, support their citizens ability to obtain concealed carry permits. I thought the discount for residents of Silver Lake to be a nice touch.

Wisconsin Carry, Inc. is offering classes that meet the requirement for free.

Just FYI - the people in Silverlake (Pearland) Texas also support this program in our area!

The free course offered by Wisconsin Carry,Inc. (www.wisconsincarry.org) is excellent.

I not only took the class with my husband, I also joined Wisconsin Carry,Inc as a member. Only 15 dollars a year to be a member.

The class was 5 hours long and packed with great information. I think everyone there donated to this great organization.

Our instructor was outstanding. They are doing a great service offering this class free of charge.

For those who want more info,,,your previous FR article about Wisconsin Carry’s free courses:

Back in 2005, I took a two-day NRA course. Class instruction and tests, maintenance (including cleaning our handguns at the end of the day), and lots of shooting in a variety of situations. I even shot a full-auto for the first time. THAT was a blast! (Disclaimer - that was not part of the class. Someone else there had the special permit for one. LOL)

I applaud those offering the classes for cheap and even free. However, that two-day course was worth every penny. They still conduct them and are starting up again in February. One of the instructors is a lawyer who specializes in 2nd Amendment/WI gun laws.

Barron County........There is also a Wisconsin State Trooper who is offering concealed carry classes in the Barron/Rice Lake area. I took the class along with my wife. Excellent!!!! He and his partner are planning to expand on the use of firearms for personal defense. I am looking forward to those classes. Try calling 715-537-3935

My best friend, who is LEO in SE Wisconsin, state certified law enforcement instructor and NRA pistol instructor, is also teaching a four hour NRA Basic Pistol class (classroom and range time), which is not only an excellent class for beginners and experts alike, it also qualifies you for application for a WI CCW permit.

He is also available for more advanced and/or personalized training.
