As Mitt Romney puts the South Carolina primary in his rear-view mirror and hits the accelerator in a bid to win Florida, he may discover himself crashing headlong into the bitter legacy of Charlie Crist, the former Florida governor who defected from the GOP and was soundly defeated for the U.S. Senate by Marco Rubio.
Romneys Charlie Crist problem is this: Romneys chief campaign strategist and several of his most senior campaign staff were Crists top political advisers the same ones who crafted Crists moderate, ignore-the-tea-party strategy epitomized in Crists famous hug of President Barack Obama. That strategy led Crist, once the most popular Republican governor in the nation, to defeat.
Crists erstwhile political team was led by controversial GOP strategist Stuart Stevens. Stevens and partner Russ Schriefer are the principals in the high-profile Stevens & Schriefer Group consultant firm and are playing the lead role in crafting Romneys primary and national campaign strategy.

Romney’s biggest problem is he has too damn many advisors and campaign staff.
Well that is a BIG surprise.....
/sarcastic retort
Explains a lot.
more like his liberal idealogy and history....he is a moderate democrate, not a conservative. He needs to go try and clean up the democratic party and STOP trying to water down the republican party.
Those of us in Florida knew this a while back.
Romneys biggest problem is Romney.
If Rubio endoreses Newt, people will go apes*it
Thanks for posting this. I’ve been saying for awhile now, Romney reminds me exactly of Crist.
From the very first time I heard Crist, I despised him. He gave mealymouthed, emotional, empty and factless answers to any question asked. I remember when he debated the conservative challenger to his bid. I wanted to throw shoes at the TV. I couldn’t believe the triumph in the statements of power republicans in my local area, like Bill Bunting, when Crist won over Gallagher- why were supposedly conservative people happy with that strange win?
Now, many years later, I get it. Republican elite are NOT conservative - they just want to direct the gravy train THEIR way!
Every time Mitt speaks, I’ve heard Crist. And we all know what Crist became. Don’t stop or slow down the money feed from the peons - just direct it to their OWN projects.
We need to make our FL friends aware of this!!!
Tea party is pretty big in Florida ......Rubio....not much love for Mittens....just had a robo call slamming Mit..
I heard Newt is using former Rubio advisors in Florida...
This is a clear indication of what a President Romney would do when it came to his most important decision - - who to surround himself with in order to implement his agenda. These are the kind of advisors that result in Justice Souter. These are the kind of advisors that get you rolled by the rats on a regular basis.
Romney is a loser, and he surrounds himself with losers.
This bears repeating. I hope this story gets lots of play in florida.
Newt is going to need all the help he can get with 200,000 absentee ballots already turned in before Romney's nosedive.
Romney is Crist, minus the orange and gayness.
Aren’t those the same clowns who Christie used to get elected in New Jersey?
Hmmmmmmm. The dots are starting to get connected.
Does this mean we can expect to see Mitt turn into an oompa loompa in the near future?
That's the Bain way, after all Bain is not paying that bill. Anyone that thinks Mittens would gut the number of government bureaucrats we're paying for is sadly mistaken.
...as befits a man who doesn't know who he ought to claim to be, nor to which audience, nor at what moment.
