Here's Andrea Mitchell's quote:

________________________________

"I talked to a top Romney adviser tonight who said, 'Look, if Mitt Romney cannot win in Florida then we're going to have to try to reinvent the smoke-filled room which has been democratized by all these primaries. And we're going to have try to come with someone as an alternative to Newt Gingrich who could be Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, someone.' Because there is such a desperation by the so-called party elites, but that's exactly what Gingrich is playing against,"

If the FL result is similar to the SC one then Mitt will be in free-fall and there will be nothing the GOP elites can do about it.

The people will choose and Newt will be our choice.

If they pull this crap, it will finish off the Republican party for good.

This is why I think Sarah Palin hasn’t endorsed anyone officially. I think she is waiting for Romney to fail and she will then step up to the plate and suck the air out of all the others campaigns and that goes for Newts. The media coverage would be all on her and conservatives would flock to her. She did say a few months back on Greta that this upcoming campaign would be the most ‘unconventional campaign’ that people have ever seen.

Great news if this results in the establishment throwing Romney under a bus. I doubt there is much of a desire, though, among the base for another Bush Presidency or for Mitch Daniels but neither would as big a train wreck as Romney if either was elected.

Look, I’m no Andrea Mitchell fan but I believe what she is saying and so should everyone else. There is no denying she is plugged into the crowd of elites she’s talking about.

If she says they told her this I believe her.

Romney cannot even steal FL and they will be hard pressed to keep Newt under 40 here. They will not really try to scuttle Newt because that would not be prudent. Oh NEVER MIND this is the GOP I forgot.

They don’t get it. It’s not just Romney personally, it’s the whole GOP elite establishment. We the people are sick of their BS.

Look at the Tea Party......it was created as a firewall against the political elite, that doesn’t just “include” Republicans, it means ESPECIALLY Republicans.

The GOP WILL BE FORCED to be the conservative party or they will be euthenized.

They bring in another RINO to try to beat Newt, he’s just going to get beat worse than Mitt because it is too obvious what is going on. It doesn’t matter even if they pick someone that the base would usually approve of, BECAUSE the establishment picked him, he will be marked as “contollable” by the the fact that “they” picked him.

And Jeb Bush? I wouldn’t vote for another Bush if you friggin’ PAID ME!

Fellas, Jeb Bush is not going to be the nominee four years after his brother stepped down. Even if voters at large were screaming for him, Republican voters (and I’m being kind here) are not. And nobody gives a crap about Mitch Daniels. You’re very quickly moving from “running out of options” to just plain “out of options”. Well, except for...

...did I just hear screaming? Fellas, don’t scream like that. It's tough to get the bloody mist off the screen.

Newt is not going to be the nominee. We are not going to pick someone who loses to Obama by 15 points and costs us both houses of Congress.

That would be insane for them to even try. 1) It would say to the people who have already voted in South Carolina and in Florida, we don't care about your votes (which we know that anyway) 2) The backlash and burning revolt of the party would be unrepairable for many years to come. The dems would win again. Newt can win and they fear that. Mitch Daniels is another weak person because of some of his own views. Jeb Bush, under his watch, allowed builders to dominate construction here while they could get these weak unsecured loans. Where there laws in place then to see the corruption or a leader to see what was happening. The corruption with home mortgages; that will come back up. I don't understand why they (the elites well, I do, because they are so out of touch) think he is so popular in Florida. That is not true. I seem to read about his popularity from left wing pundits. He is another compassionate liberal. The party elites ( Bush Sr-Rove whom have a huge deep grudge against Newt) know Newt looks strong in Florida. After that, Romney is about done. The base will not vote for him. They know this so Rush is correct when he says they don't want the presidency. Newt has the Tea Party. The Tea Party to the insiders have to be secondary string while the moderates keep the front line/ power. I am pulling for the Tea Party wing, not the moderate wing which allows the liberals to set the message.

This would end the Republican Party—literally.

This isn’t 1964, when there were alternatives to the GOP.

This is 2012. With the internet and grassroots organizations growing leaps and bounds. Heck, the Tea Party is on the edge of becoming a full fledged political party. All that is required is for the GOP to self destruct.

An action like they are talking about here would do it.

First of all, I would not trust anything Andrea Mitchell says on CNN. Secondly how is the establishment going to run an alternative to Mitts if no one ponies up any money to the RNC? I haven't given those bastages a penny in years.

If the RNC wants to re-energize the Tea Party as an adversary, then let them try a bait-and-switch.

What are the party rules? Is the RNC chairman going to unilaterally decide who will be the party candidate? Are Congressional Republican party members going to vote on for ‘brokers’ or are they going to vote on who is going to be candidate? Or do R state representatives get to vote? ... So many questions and no answers ....yet.

Sounds like empty threats and smoke and mirrors from the Establishment.

I actually wrote about this today: http://libertarian-neocon.blogspot.com/2012/01/it-is-too-late-for-mitch-daniels-or-any.html

They might try but I just don’t see how they can be successful. Looking at the ballot deadlines it looks like anyone coming on now probably can only get on the ballot in about 14 states. So 72% of voters will not have a say? The base will go nuts if that happens and people will just leave the party out of principle.

Anyway, Daniels is soft on social stuff and national security. Jeb is probably okay but I really really will not support another Bush. We just cant have 3 Bushes in a row as a GOP President. What are we, a banana republic?
