Raunch meter rises for CBS Monday comedies
Yahoo Finance ^ | 1/23/12 | David Bauder

Last week seemed typical for CBS' sitcoms on Monday night, television's most popular — and raunchy — night of comedy.

There was a strip club visit on "How I Met Your Mother," lap dance included. The stars of "2 Broke Girls" mistakenly believed an upstairs neighbor ran a brothel. "Two and a Half Men" included jokes about masturbation, oral sex, sex with moms, trading cigarettes for sex and two scenes with loud noises of passion from behind closed doors.

A quick count found 53 sex jokes on the network's four comedies, which includes "Mike & Molly." There were also nine jokes about flatulence or bowel movements, and two scenes where marijuana use was clearly implied — one with a teen-age boy and the other with an older woman.

Most tv is pitched at under thirty types. When I was a kid many moons ago, most shows were pitched at over thirty types. That’s why movies and tv shows are so bad today. The only network show I used to watch, or watch on a semi-regular basis were the CSI series...apart from the Miami CSIs where it became extremely tedious to watch David Caruso put his sunglasses on and then take them off again ad nauseam.

My sisters and their husbands all await eagerly each new episode of these “sits.” I say “sit” vice “sitcom” as “com” implies “comedy,” or funny stuff. It’s all swill. I haven’t watched a new “sit” since we got back stateside in 1997. I watched “Just Shoot Me.” Halfway through it, I turned it off and never went back. Just watching the promos for the “sits” is enough to make me want to vomit.

We don’t watch any of those shows. The commercials for them are bad enough.

Not only do I not watch any of them, I resent the promos for them that are run during NFL broadcasts. It used to be possible to have 3 generations in a room watching an NFL game. Towards the end of my grandmother’s life, I hated the low class promos that spewed out of the TV during NFL games. I miss Rozelle. The NFL commissioners since him have allowed the NFL brand to be tarnished.

This is why I now have my APPLE TV. I love it! Choice, control, and satisfaction of telling our local cable service to ‘bleep’ off.

Most tv is pitched at under thirty types. Exactly.

And, you gotta figure that they're going to direct it at just slightly lower than the median intelligence demographic as well. Comedy has to be dumb enough and slow enough so that everyone gets the joke.

My wife has yanked me into watching the show "SuperNatural". It's a Friday Night B-Movie Creature-Feature show. A Stupid and Campy Monster Flick, but a fun way to unwind after a long week. Call it my guilty pleasure.

Before that, it was "24". A Stupid and Campy Secret Agent Flick. I'm starting to see a pattern here. :-)

I can't think of a single sitcom that I've watched regularly in the past 15 or more years. Beyond specifics - check the news, politics, maybe a football game - an Hour or two a week is all the TV I can stand.

The only sitcom I watch is Big Bang Theory on Thursdays. And that is only because I have a fondness for geeks. :)

I guess I am aging out of the target demographic for most shows. I am 49.

Netflix also has a lot of older, less raunchy sitcoms that I prefer to the new filth. Another place to find stuff the whole family can watch is the kiddie sitcoms on Disney and Nick. Stuff like Wizards of Waverly place, Nick’s Declassified, Drake and Josh, iCarly, etc. Much cleaner than Glee, for the teens and tweens. All free on Netflix instant. For one subscription, I can get it on all computers, cell phones, and tvs in the house. Sweet.

Article’s author isone of the “professional offended” who watches dreck on tv, so they can act offended, and whine about how offended they are.

If tv offends you, put it by the curb on trash day. Quit watching the dreck.

I don't watch it, but it's impossible to watch NFL football on TV without seeing the really cheesy promos for these programs.

Neither do I but I do watch the old shows from Netflix like Hawaii 5-0.

Book em Dano for selling crap disguised as “#1 rated shows” or so the commercials say so.

I’ll have to look into it.

I use a Roku to stream Netflix but Roku also offers a lot of other channels that offer old movies and TV shows. Most are free and some cost about $3 a year.

I don’t have cable/tv so what we watch is whatever we buy on dvd or sometimes online. I’ve never seen those shows on cbs. They are not alone in bad tv.. My daughter wanted to watch the simpsons newest episode online. They are NOT the same show they once were. At the end after the credits they showed marge’s twin sisters in a rowing contest with male twins. Out of the blue the males started kissing each other. What in the world happened to the simpsons? I knew they had gotten worse but this was ridiculous! It’s sad..
