Posted on 01/25/2012 2:32:36 PM PST by EBH
With Republican-controlled Indiana on the verge of becoming a "right to work" state, Democrats in the state House on Tuesday took the only step they have left to prevent it, if only for a bit longer. They disappeared. Again.
A final vote on the measure, which would bar union contracts from requiring nonunion members to pay fees for representation, had been expected Tuesday in the House, which Republicans dominate, 60-40.
But with scores of union members and supporters filling the Statehouse halls in Indianapolis in protest, most Democrats refused to turn up for floor sessions -- not once, but twice on Tuesday afternoon.
The absences, only the latest in a series of absences and fierce partisan debate over the issue during the state's legislative session, meant that Republicans did not have enough members on the floor to do business; 67 representatives are required.
And so -- with the national spotlight soon to descend on Indianapolis for the Super Bowl, and with the tense standoff only rising among lawmakers and protesters -- Indiana finds itself at the center of a fight over the role of unions and their power, not unlike the issues that boiled over last year in Ohio and Wisconsin.
Republicans say the "right to work" legislation would allow workers who do not wish to support unions not to be forced to do so, and would entice new businesses to move to Indiana, which would be the first state in more than a decade to approve such a provision.

Behold the fleebagger party
I love how they are all about choice when it comes to abortion and okay with forced unionization. Ridiculous two- year old behavior, but not surprising. Actually, I know some more rational two year olds.
spineless basteds. they should be jailed for dereliction of duty.
Texas democrats did the same a few years ago and it didn’t work out well for them at all!
Proof they are fascists at heart.
oh wait wrong thinking.
It passed the Indiana House-Bill 1001-The Right to Work law. Now goes to Indiana Senate and on to Gov. Daniels for signature. Hopefully by Friday...
they SHOULD be fleeing We the People....
Don’t make me come down there.
Romen... I mean, 0bamacare was shoved down our throats without R’s running away (well, where would they run?), yet when the toddler party doesn’t like something, they need to pout and abandon the process.
Thank you for the update. Good...he’ll sign it.
It would be cool if these Rats would flee and never come back. Maybe it could start a nationwide trend and the country would be saved. I here Venezuela is a friendly place for Leftist.
Mark them AWOL, then prosecute!
right there is only one thing they have to do.
They obviously hate the constitution and hate being in the minority so here is a way to solve their baby tantrums.
Let most of the northern states especially the north est and leave with most of the west coast, let them join Quebec and let them have their liberal socialist utopia.
One one condition, they take all their illegals, perverts, homosexuals and the lunatic left.
I’d give them 10 years before their country goes to crap and they’ll be crying to come back.
Flee to France and stay there.
Flee to France and stay there.
I like that!
haha thanks for the update, dude. These Democrap clowns should stay out of Indiana forever and become hobos.
If only they left the country for good!
Indiana House passes right-to-work legislation 54-44
You do realize that our liberals are already fleeing south? LOL
If it passed the state House why are the rats fleeing again?
**Indiana House passes right-to-work legislation 54-44
This is headline from www.indystar.com..sorry guys/gals, haven’t caught on to how to post or link an article to main site :(
On a side note, i was viewing the live feed when the bill passed...watching the dems stall, obstruct & pity party speeches were both painful & hilarious to watch.
Ironically similar to the Wisconsin Dem debacle, they must’ve taken notes.
Time stamped at bottom of article (link) is ‘12Am.’ At approx. 5PM eastern, the House passed Bill 1001-RTW Law.
Withhold their pay.
So is this the new Dem tactic? Don’t like your prospects in a vote so you leave the State to avoid it? Let me guess - did they flee to their IL/Chicago Dem friends, too? They need to hear this loud and clear — WE THE PEOPLE are in control. If the PEOPLE elect a majority that happens to be in opposition to your liking you can’t just refuse to do your job. Perhaps we (the People) should start allotting these people a certain number of sick days, and make them start punching a clock - don’t punch in on days it is required except in the case of a medical or family emergency (verified/certified) then you can be disqualified/ you forfeit the right to take your seat - and your county/district forced to hold a special election to fill it (a special election req. to have at least two candidates and not the person in question).
Maybe I’ll write Governor Walker or the WI GOP and suggest something like this be proposed in the WI House/Senate. The people have the right to be represented at all times, and unexcused absences in order to hold the legislature hostage is interferring with government business, and not behavior ethically responsible of the elected officials who decide to engage in those tactics.
We don’t allow our children to be truant - why do we allow our elected officials to be truant from work???
DIANA: Have you heard anything like what I suggested above being proposed anywhere? I’d have to think it out a bit more, but I think it’s something that could be necessary to perhaps put on a statewide ballot.
Well, bill goes on to IN Senate-then Governors desk. Then onto Super Bowl!
Thank you for the information. I did not read the entire articel and did not see the time the article was written.
I know EEK OUCH that is why conservatives in those lost states like MA, RI,VT, ME, need to move south and combat this plus make our state more red for the future.
The crybaby party from Wisconsin fled too, they lost as well.
It's a pattern all right, the same as the NAZIs in 1930s Germany.
So much for "DEMOCRATIC" Party, or "reaching across the aisle." The chair should offer 48 hours for them to return, and failing that, should find these creeps in contempt. They belong in jail.
It is an interesting trend and one I wonder if Democrats in congress will pull under a Republican President?
Recall what they pulled in 2008 when Pelosi simply turned out the lights in the House for August recess because there was legislation they did not want to deal with.
Law breakers not law makers, the Dems teaching the kids how to be against the process lawmaking of their states.
Recall all dems that left the building.
IndyStar says it has passed.
These people are just insidious.
Anyone think they wouldn’t end free elections in a heart beat given a chance?
It is through the house and on to the senate.
The original aritcle was written at 12am, vote passing was around 5pm.
This should be illegal. If I left work because I just didn’t feel like doing stuff my boss wanted me to do, I’d get fired.
Start the fines.
Yep, reminds me of a teenager having a temper tantrum and slamming doors and such (I was one such teen, thankfully my children 99.9% of the time are not...LOL).
They claim that “democracy” is refusing to participate in our legislative process? What could be more Democratic than voting along with other officials who were ELECTED by the public - not appointed by some bureaucracy. You can either participate, or go home and find another way to try to change your world but not as a legislator. You can’t possibly pretend to be representing anyone by refusing to participate at all.
Attendance can be compelled and fines can be instituted. I suggest $1000 per Rat per day.
Whether we like it or not, the fact is the these Democrats were elected, and presumably acting on the wishes of their voters. If not, they will be out next election.
In the online game world, I call it:
“Rage Pout” when the individual stays silent (or changes chat room if you’re in voice comm) hoping to get someone to beg them to speak or to come back..
“Rage Quit” if they leave your group/party hoping for someone to beg them to come back..
Fits quite well in this instance too ;)
So . . . . . . . . if you don't like the democratic process that you claim to represent, you just run away to avoid it??
That is such a great idea!!! And, it is the reason that Democraps always lose support every time they pull this crap.
Is that the same time when they locked the Repubs out?
