William Jefferson Gingrich [BAD BEAT, RIVERED]
New York Sun ^ | January 25, 2012 | R. EMMETT TYRRELL

Posted on 01/25/2012 3:53:39 PM PST by Nonstatist

Newt up against the Prophet Obama would be a painful thing to watch. He might be deft with one-liners but it would be futile. There are .. uncommitted voters to be cultivated in 2012 — all would be unmoved by Newt’s juggling of conservative shibboleths..

Now Newt is hustling my fellow conservatives .. The last time around he successfully hustled conservatives in the House of Representatives and on the House impeachment committee.. He blew the impeachment and .. his role as Speaker. He now says Republicans in the House were exhausted with his great projects. Nonsense, they were exhausted with his atrocious leadership...

He is playing the liberal media card and saying he embodies conservative values. Newt is hoping conservatives suffer amnesia. Perhaps they cannot recall mere months ago when this insufferable whiz kid was lambasting the great Congressman Paul Ryan for “right-wing social engineering” — more evidence of Newt’s not-so-hidden longing for the approval of the liberal media.

Newt and Bill ..went on to create empires, Bill in philanthropy and cheap thought, Newt in public policy and cheap thought. Bill has wrung up an unprecedented $75.6 million since absconding from the White House with White House loot and shameless pardons. Newt .. got between $1.6 million to $1.8 million from Freddie Mac, and he lobbied for Medicare Part B while receiving, according to the Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney, “Big Bucks Pushing Corporate Welfare.” Now after a lifetime in Washington he is promoting himself as an outsider.

Conservatives should not be surprised by the scandals that lie ahead, if they stick with him. Those of us, who raised the question of character in 1992, were confronted by an indignant Bill Clinton, treating the topic as a low blow. By now we know. Character matters.. Newt has Clinton’s character.

“One I remember in particular was a Congressman from Southern California whose name escapes me now (Rogan, maybe). “

It was James Rogan.

Henry Hyde, James Rogan... great seeing some of the names I hadn’t thought of in years.

Interesting posting history Romneybot:

Yikes! Well deserved ZOT for willk.

I'll post an occasional article about conservatives that may be considered negative solely for discussion purposes and to point out its fallacies so other readers can better know the facts. But my comments always make it clear where I am coming from and that I don't support the article's thesis. The poster of this thread stepped in it big time with his comment "The hand we're dealt" looks to be really, really, crappy." Well deserved ZOT for him, too.

Your premise is based on a denial of political reality.

You are asserting that the positive political momentum in the House translates to political momentum in the Senate.

Historical fact does not support such a ridiculous reading of history.

The Senate was a treacherous lot in 1999, just as is in 2012.

In the 2010 the Repulicans won by HISTORIC margins in the House which translated to NOTHING in the Senate.

Leader McConnell and the likes of McCain sold out the majority in the House just like Leader Lott and guys like Gramm and Specter sold them out in 1999.

LOL if you will but your laugh reminds me of the laugh of the Black Knight.

In case this cultural allusion is below your elevated tastes in culture, I have provided a link.

Dude, you live in the same world as Dorothy and the Tinman. You’re ridiculous. The Republicans had 55 seats in the senate and could not get a majority for conviction in an obvious case of obstruction because of politics. Your naivete is something to see. Let us recap:

Clinton was diddling the help while discussing troop movements with a congressmen. He then lied and obstructed justice in front of a grand jury. About a year later two Republican Speakers resigned. Republicans lost seats in the House during the sixth year of a presidency, the first time this had happened in well over 100 years.Clinton finished out his term.

Big win for Newt.

Excellent article. Praying the Rosary is not something a casual Catholic does if he is only trying to emulate Bill Clinton’s carrying a Bible. I believe Newt is truly embracing his still young commitment to his faith.

“Clinton WAS impeached, by the House, as will forever be reflected in the official record. Like Gingrich or not, one cannot say with any historical accuracy that Gingrich “blew the impeachment”.

The decision whether to convict an impeached President rests solely with the US Senate, not the House. If I recall correctly (and I do), Gingrich was not in the Senate. Gingrich did his job. The Senate “blew” it.

EXACTLY RIGHT! GOOD JOB!

Impeachment happened thru the House of Representatives!

HE WAS IMPEACHED.

The Republicans had 55 seats in the senate and could not get a majority for conviction in an obvious case of obstruction because of politics. Your naivete is something to see.

You are not aware of David Schippers. He made it clear that the House Managers were SOLD OUT by the Republicans in the Senate.

Long before the results of the 1998 election Lott said do not bring that crap over here, that crap being the impeachment charges.

The reason that some Republicans felt comfortable not voting for impeachment was the trial was a SHAM because the House Managers were hamstrung by the rules agreed to by Phil Gramm. I am not sure if they ever could have got a conviction but I know the cards were stacked against them not because of Newt but because of the rules. Newt Gingrich NEVER sold out, it was the RINOS in the Senate.

All the former head cheerleader at the University of Mississippi wanted to do was sing with his buddy that political crossdresser Jeffords in the Senate's barbershop quartet, he could not be bothered with considering such matters as the criminality of Bill Clinton.

To blame Newt and give the likes of Lott and Gramm a pass tells me you are no conservative but a treacherous RINO just like Lott and Gramm who I am sure wherever they are, are supporting Romney by attacking Gingrich just as you are doing.

I give your due dude, not only do you have the Black Knight's laugh, you have every bit of his tenacity. Enough said, you have proven your loyalty to Mitt by your unflinching hatred of Gingrich by denying every reasonable argument.

*snip*

We’ve done our job. Our job now is to go over to the Senate. Well do our job there and we will abide by their rules, Rep. James Rogan RCalifornia said.

But even before the senators have returned to Washington, Senate Democrats have been approaching some Republicans to gauge support for censure. Possible targets include GOP moderates like Sens. John Chafee of Rhode Island, Jim Jeffords of Vermont and Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine.

But Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott RMississippi had some discouraging words for those efforts, saying in a news interview Monday that the believes the Senate has a responsibility to hear all of the evidence before anybody considers cutting the trial short for a censure deal or some other alternative punishment of Clinton.

*snip*

Though many Democrats favor censuring the president rather than removing him from office, key Senate Republicans have said an alternative should be considered only after a speedy impeachment trial, and perhaps only after a vote on whether to remove the president from office.

Conservative Sen. Phil Gramm RTexas says a censure resolution would be both superfluous and a poor precedent. In a written statement Tuesday, Gramm said censure pales next to the historical weight of the impeachment resolutions already voted by the House.

The subtext is that Lott and Gramm could never accept censure, as their constituents in conservative places like Texas and Misssippi would never allow it.

That was the compromise that Gramm agreed to, no censure, but a trial with rules that were much more liberal than the house managers had expected and prepared for which made the trial a show trial. Give the house managers their due, they fell on their swords and never publicly complained. The truthes were told not by them but by Schippers.

“Big win for Newt.”

You Newt bashing simpleton. Quit revising history, we lost seats because Gingrich and Kasich were attempting to get more budget cuts.

Clinton shut down the damn government and the media blamed it on Republicans.

That’s why seats were lost.

How in the world you come to the conclusion that I did anything that comment on R.E. is beyond me. Just because the clock is broken it is still correct twice a day. RET has been out of it for years. He destroyed a perfectly good American Spectator with his nonsense.

I never called him a RINO I merely observed that I gave up on him and his analysis years ago.

Oh you mean like Ann Coulter or Peggy Noonan? Look some folks are inconsistent. for me RET went over the bend when he started hitting the booze so hard that he lost all rational thought. He drove AS into the ground and we lost a great magazine in the process.

Buckley always had a bit of a libertarian bent to him but he was thoughtful and witty and razor sharp. Ronald Reagan was the greatest president of my life time. He saved the nation when it was on the bring. Was he perfect> Nope but my good what a grand and noble man he was. His greatest defect of character was probably that he believed all people are basically good——so when the Dems wanted to role him all the had to do was say ‘ we promise’ and the Washingotn insiders would urge him to go along.

Reagan for my money was more than good enough. How I wish some one such as him were there for us now.
