On visit to Arizona, Obama and Brewer spar over her book
The Hill ^ | January 25, 2012 | Amie Parnes

When President Obama landed in Phoenix on Wednesday, he was greeted with sunny skies and a kerfuffle with Republican Gov. Jan Brewer.

After welcoming the president upon his arrival, Obama told Brewer he didn’t like the way he was characterized in her book, ‘Scorpions for Breakfast,’ the governor told reporters traveling with the president.

But Obama “didn’t feel that I had treated him cordially” in the book, the governor said.

In the book, Brewer complains about one meeting at the White House with Obama -- centered around immigration and border security -- writing, “It was though President Obama thought he could lecture me, and I would learn at his knee.”

Initially, Brewer called the meeting “cordial.” But in the book, she walked back the sentiment, calling the president “patronizing.”

In a rare move, the White House put out their own statement quoting a White House official: “The governor handed the President a letter and said she was inviting him to meet with her. The president said he’d be glad to meet with her again, but did note that after their last meeting, a cordial discussion in the Oval Office, the governor inaccurately described the meeting in her book. The president looks forward to continuing taking steps to help Arizona’s economy grow.”

At one point in the tense conversation on Wednesday, Brewer pointed her finger at Obama and at another time, they were talking over one another, according to a White House pool report.

Obama appeared to walk away from Brewer in the middle of their conversation, according to the pool report.

“I said I was sorry he felt that way but I didn’t get my sentence finished,” she said. “Anyway, we’re glad he’s here. I’ll regroup.

“The book is what the book is,” Brewer added. “I asked him if he read the book. He said he read the excerpt. So.”

Brewer said she handed Obama what she called a personal letter asking him to sit down with her to discuss the “Arizona comeback.”

She said she “reiterated an invitation that I’ve extended to him before with regards to coming to Arizona and going to the border with me.

“We’ve had a remarkable comeback here and I want to share that with him,” Brewer said. “I thought we probably would’ve talked about the things that were important to him and important to me, helping one another.

“Arizona was upside down,” she continued. “But we have turned it around. I know again that he loves this country and I love this country.”

Obama has treated the state of Arizona like crap. Good for Gov. Brewer for standing up to the usurper.

Well, hell . . . an illegal alien doesn’t want to talk about illegal aliens . . .

I would love to know if this impostor and grifter living in our White House has to show a passport upon landing in a foreign country, and what does the passport say about the national origin of this goofus?

Is this a veiled threat? ...support me and I'll send money your way; don't and you'll miss out on "my" generosity? The federal government needs to get out of the way and let states grow their own economy.

“Obama has treated the state of Arizona like crap. Good for Gov. Brewer for standing up to the usurper.”

Spot on, greyfoxx39.

States should treat that Chicago thug with no respect or honor to the office he stole. This pig doesn’t believe in the rule of law or the Constitution. In the same way, all of obuma’s laws, his fascist bureaucrats and his illegal czars should be treated with complete loathing, contempt and disrespect.

It’s time to let obuma know that he’s not welcome in these united states.

Let's hope she is only saying this for political consumption. Even then, it is grating -- the Marxist is out to destroy our Republic as founded.

I guess the author of the piece, Aimee Parnes, has never met an egomaniac who feels he is doing a person of lesser understanding a kindness by imparting his superior wisdom in a warm, heartfelt way?

That's what's known as a thinly veiled threat.

Threats in full view of the public by the President of the United States.

That's either bitter or arrogant.

I have a hard time believing this. However, I do believe that Gov. Brewer is a little pitbull and has the balls that many in the GOP lack.

Ah. Cordiality. This is how Obama is cordial to people:

What a pussy. The thin-skinned POS can contemptuously dish it out, but whines like a baby when someone gives it back to him.

He hasn’t treated Texas much better, when he came here Perry met him at the plane to give him a letter - also about border control... he totally ignored Perry. That ass clown definitely is a legend in his own mind.

I forgot about that “all this for a flag” incident. That contrasts really well with his SOTU speech citing the flag the SEALs carried into battle with Bin Laden. This man has no values or morals.
