Previous NC Congressional District 13 was gerrymander-drawn just for Democrat Brad Miller. This new redstricting was drawn by the first Republican majority North Carolina Legislature in over 100 years.(Most of them were elected in 2008.)

I knew it was a Democrat, because the first identifying sentence left that out.

I figured this must be a Democrat, no Party affliation was mentioned.

Had it been a Republican, the article would have stressed the fact that the Democrats were likely to retake the House.

Yes indeed it would have. Interestingly enough, our late six term US Senator Jesse Helms was an on-air commentator at WRAL before his political career.

oopsie...it was too early in the morning to be lucid yet. I stand corrected; it was 30 years/6 years = 5 terms

The really good news is that (D) Governor Bev Perdue has now also announced that she will not seek reelection.
