Conservative North Florida voters: Romney's too rich
CNN ^ | 1/26/12 | John Sepulvado

Panacea, Florida (CNN) -- While media outlets and Beltway pundits might use state polls to gauge the race in Florida between GOP presidential hopefuls Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney, Ron Crum uses poles.

Fishing poles.

Crum, a Republican small business owner in this sleepy seaside town south of Tallahassee, calls Romney a multi-millionaire who expects to get breaks because he's rich -- be it a low tax rate or the GOP nomination.

But former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Crum says, is a man who understands the plight of the working class and can articulate conservative principles effectively.

Picking up two fishing rods, Crum says the expensive Penn International, priced at almost $400, is like Romney. Meanwhile, the Jarvis-Walker, which he says does everything the other rod does but sells for about $50, is like Gingrich.

I’m in northern FL and I;ve not seen anything for Romney nor do I know anyone for Romney

I have seen however FOX just now hitting Newt AGAIN with their bias, FOX and friends doing two hit pieces , one saying he put down Reagan and the other saying He got slammed off Rubio, of course forgetting the positives and that people back over 20 years can always disagree with others just like many disagreed with Bush.

Now FOX has their two talking heads again trying to hit Newt again.

It seems FOX is doing hit after hit against FOX

Thanks for posting. Good article. Clicked over to it and read it.

Think Crum was Forshay’s conservative Dad, or just a totally separate liberal picked at random to balance the article about Gingrich?

Newt started his campaign with no money.

Just slogged away at being himself and almost literally one by one ... voters started to see and hear the guy that many knew from their time paying attention to the Clinton years.

Honestly, until my first computer in 1998, I was pretty clueless and sheepleized.

FreeRepublic has been the biggest and most powerful influence since learning there was no Santa Clause and my mother and father probably did things in bed my wife and I do now.

Newt started with nothing and I'm guessing isn't filling that many coffers with campaign cash ... yet keeps on goin'.

Ya gutt'a love the American dream and way of doing things.

It’s when I got my first computer too LOL. A compaq big thing.

As for Newt, well thank heavens we have other ways to get the news with the MSM .
Every year what goes by means another year of the MSM losing their power and the public getting more news.

It’s said that “timing is everything.”

If that’s true, 2012 is not the time for the multi-millionaire to run for the presidency!

HE’S OUT OF TOUCH AND CANNOT CONNECT WITH “THE PEOPLE”!

He’s a 1-percenter and there’s no way around that fact!

GO NEWT! GO TEA PARTY!

Romney’s problem is not that he happens to have a lot of money. It’s that he acts like he has a lot of money. Therefore, he is better than you, smarter than you and don’t you forget it!

“Crum says the expensive Penn International, priced at almost $400, is like Romney. Meanwhile, the Jarvis-Walker, which he says does everything the other rod does but sells for about $50, is like Gingrich.”
_______________________________________

I’m pulling for Newt, too. But I have to ask myself why this guy even offers a $400.00 fishing pole in his shop if the cheaper one will do everything the expensive one will?

He’s surely not the sharpest knife in the drawer if he’s telling that to a prospective customer looking at the Penn. What a dope. I’d fire him if he worked for me.

Does anyone else see how this ‘Rich = Evil’ thing is getting out of hand? Even Conservatives are starting to chant this Socialist mantra.

Rich beats poor in every way. Wonder if Crum knows about Newt’s bill at Tiffany’s?

Like I said, I’m all in for Newt, but demonizing Romney because he has more millions than Newt has isn’t a road Conservative capitalists should be traveling down.

Newt/Allen 2012

Anyone who buys into this class warfare nonsense is not a conservative in my book.

There’s no such thing as “too rich”. People are valued at what they’re worth to their employer or by the wealth they generate. That’s the free market way.

Personally this anti money/wealth thing coming from conservatives is bothersome.
I do not care how much money anyone has. I do care what their political stands on issues are.
Romney is liberals down the list.
Gingrich is more conservative than not down the list.
Santorum is much more conservative than not down the list.
Paul is just nuts.
Between Gingrich and Santorum, Gingrich is a pit bull speaker......for me that is the tie breaker.

Ridiculous article. "Too rich"? These are communists, not conservatives.

I can think of a hundred real reasons not to support Romney - if the class envy of pathetic, lazy losers is all Gingrich has then he can go pound sand.

CNN propaganda.

I think this is more a matter of people not expressing themselves clearly. My read of the article is that these people really mean that Romney is too powerful which gives him an inherent advantage in politics and he has an elitist attitude. They can't relate to him. It's visceral w/them and they sense it; but, don't know how to express it clearly. I doubt they would feel the same way about their favorite multimillionaire NASCAR driver or country music idol.

I am not wealthy and I never will be. I detest Romney for his political views; however, I do not begrudge him, or anyone else, any of the money they have made thru legal means or any tax breaks they are legally entitled to.
