Surely you don’t believe that Newt orchestrated this smear on himself so as to set up another debate home run? That is a stretch beyond all credulity.

It's hard to see how Newt could have orchestrated as much as has been dumped over the past day. To have leaked one or two seeming smears with the intent of controlling the agenda via a planned response I don't think would be unprecedented. Some sources claim Newt's polling relative to Romney has slipped the past couple days. If so he could use a boost and reversing his 2nd ex's allegations sure helped in SC. A similar response to start tonight's debate might accomplish the same. Newt is certainly smart enough to recognize this. I don't know whether he is, and I'd prefer to hope he isn't, shall we politely say, "tactical enough" to so act. Unwise enemies have often witlessly aided conservatives. It may be that he has enough faith in his enemies to predict attacks along certain lines and be well prepared for them.
At least one of the dumps on Newt has been alleged to be out of context. Rush mentioned that but said he didn't have time to personally review the entire 1 1/2 hour CSPAN clip. I must soon hit the road so don't have time to review it fully either. I listened a little and the part immediately following the dumped clip does seem to support Newt and thus could provide counterpunching openings.
I'm taping tonight's debate and expect on my return to hear a number of rebuttals from Newt given what's appeared over the past day. I expect entertaining viewing on my return, but can't predict who will prevail. I also expect to read entertaining posts regarding the debate on FR when I return.
