Take a Peek at the Drudge Report Alternatives
The Moderate Voice ^ | MAR 6TH, 2010 | JOE GANDELMAN

If you’re an independent voter or Democrat who is getting a bit tired of the Internet powerhouse Drudge Report’s political positioning of news items and/or have been turned off by some of its big news scoops that didn’t quite pan out in terms of the HUGE HEADLINES (the ones that have simply vanished off the site with no explanation) there are alternatives. Or, if you’re a Drudge fan and like that format and are looking for others that you can visit and get a news summary at a quick glance there are some excellent alternatives.

Even if you ARE a huge Drudge fan, you’ll like the format of these — and I encourage you to add them to your bookmark list:

HINESSIGHT: It bills itself as “The Anti-Drudge” and can be truly addicting.

BUZZFLASH REPORT: A longtime, highly popular site on the left that not only is a news aggregator but has a lot of original liberal-oriented posts.

Drudge Retort: The name and format speak for itself. It’s design is identical but it’s coming from a different space politically. Has an excellent list of links to other sites as well.

NEWSER: Summaries of news stories, constantly updated. In its design and content, it’s one that will hook you so you visit several times a day.

If you read all of these and the original Drudge, you get a good, quick feel for the big stories that are breaking.

Looking for alternatives to the gay agenda supporting Drudge Report I found the above...hopefully there are others. I also looked at http://news.google.com which isn't too bad, but seems to be heavily filtered and influenced by their bias and agenda. Out of the above, Newser (http://www.newser.com/) seemed pretty good, but it is all pictures...I actually enjoy the quick scan and read that the drudge format provides.

Are there other alternatives (obviously I already know about and enjoy FR as a great source)?

I'm so angry at Drudge I could chew nails. He should be forced to change the name of his site to the Mittpropagandareport. He's had this story, (thoroughly discredited by Nancy Reagan of all people) that Gingrich hated and mocked Ronald Reagan as his lead story since yesterday afternoon. That is the longest I've ever seen a story on Drudge.

Looking for alternatives to the gay agenda supporting Drudge Report

Given that Matt himself is gay, why shouldn't he be on that side of the issue?

Great post. I'm sick of Drudge and more than ready for a change. I just checked out Hinessight. I'd hadn't heard of it before and like it. Bye bye Drudge.

I was so tired of the anti-Newt stuff that I sent him a note in his news tip. I then left Drudge for a while. If I find something better, I will report back.

Hinessight looks to be a liberal leaning version of Drudge.

If they don’t pan out, no worry, FR has all the news, commentary and miscellany, often sooner than Drudge. I hope someday it has video, or a tv station of its own.

Looking at Drudge's content right now: So Matt Drudge has finally achieved "mainstream media" status, at least he is behaving like them now with his selective reporting and total bias against one side. Congratulations Matt, next stop for you is sure to be the New York Times!

I am getting used to the http://www.newser.com look. Of course there is http://www.newsmax.com as well that is good to look and see what they say since they have a bias that is probably close to what Sean Hannity types like.

He pushed the party elites to stick to a conservative platform aggressively and relentlessly, sometimes with tactics that embarrassed them deeply. And he was successful doing it for a long time, rising in popularity and power. Every time they say he only cared about “himself” you have to read that as the spin it is. It means he only cared about the American people and not about making nice and cutting deals with the party elites, insiders and Beltway crowd.

I’m not sure what other endorsement he should need beside this one:

Michael Reagan: “Newt became a leading ally of my father, Ronald Reagan. He helped Congress push through massive tax cuts. He worked to secure a military buildup that helped defeat the Soviet Union. Under his leadership Congress also limited the welfare state... As a leader in the Reagan Revolution, Gingrich began to confront both Democrats and Republicans in Congress for their cozy insider deals... Gingrich led the most reform-minded Congress in America... He has helped keep my father’s legacy alive.”

Yes, these are all leftie news sources. The Drudge Retort has an ad that says "Reach Millions of Liberals Daily" and one of the commenters thanks the author for posting the Retort link and starts talking about Air America. I registered as an author at Newser, but they will never put my stories on the front page because that page is already full of stories attacking conservatives. Here are some of the blogs/websites I follow using Google Reader:

Big Government

Big Journalism

CNSNews.com

Hot Air

Left Coast Rebel

Legal Insurrection

Michelle Malkiin

Moonbattery

National Review Online

Red State

Right Wing News

The Constitution Club

The Gateway Pundit

I suggest everyone go to the links on Drudge and paste this in the comments section. People need to know he appears to have a biased perspective that is inconsistent with mainstream conservatism.

http://gawker.com/5200009/drudge-i-do-not-love-sex-with-men

Drudge: ‘I Do Not Love Sex With Men’

4/6/2009

Drudge has never been said to particularly relish his homosexuality or embrace it; in fact his gay romantic/sexual side has been described (when alleged) as conflicted and awkward.

David Brock, the former right-wing writer, wrote in his memoir Blinded by the Right about a “scary” date in which Drudge, after bringing Brock flowers and navigating the Santa Monica gay strip “like a pro,” stepped on a competing suitor’s foot “really hard” (in Drudge’s purported words) in a nightclub to scare him away from Brock.

Alec Baldwin stated that Drudge made an advance on him in an ABC Studios hallway, a proposition that had “kind of a creepy quality to it.”

Drudge denied he was gay to the Miami New Times in 2001, even as he launched into a disquisition on (as the New Times put it) “the reigning DJ king of gay circuit parties” and summarized his nightlife thusly: “I go to straight bars, I go to gay bars.”

Everyone should be aware of refdesk.com- It includes a large number of links to newspapers, and many other news sources. A great alternative to drudge.
