Mike Reagan, Rush Limbaugh Blast Romney
Newsmax ^ | 1/26/2012 | Jim Meyers

Posted on 01/26/2012 2:54:10 PM PST by Raebie

Ronald Reagan’s eldest son Mike Reagan has issued a statement lambasting Mitt Romney and his supporters for claims that Romney’s Republican presidential rival Newt Gingrich was a strong critic of President Reagan. Reagan says such claims are false. Even Rush Limbaugh, shocked by the Romney claims, chimed on his Thursday radio broadcast to say "This is obviously a coordinated attack to take Newt out here in Florida." Rush slammed the Romney-backed smear campaign against Newt. “That kind of stuff is why people hate Romney so much," Limbaugh said. Limbaugh added that Newt has always been a conservative from his early days in national talk radio in the 1980s. “He was perhaps the premier defender of Ronald Reagan,” Limbaugh said. Note: Do You Support Gingrich or Romney? Vote in Urgent Poll — Click Here Now On Thursday, Mike Reagan, a respected conservative commentator, responded to the Gingrich critics with this statement to Newsmax: “I am deeply disturbed that supporters of Mitt Romney are claiming that Newt Gingrich is not a true Reaganite and are even claiming that Newt was a strong critic of my father. “Recently I endorsed Newt Gingrich for president because I believe that Newt is the only Republican candidate who has both consistently backed the conservative policies that my father championed and the only Republican that will continue to implement his vision. “It surprises me that Mitt Romney and his supporters would raise this issue — when Mitt by his own admission voted for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale who opposed my father, and later supported liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas for president. “As governor of Massachusetts, Romney’s achievement was the most socialistic healthcare plan in the nation up until that time.

It was my take, too, that Rush is demanding clarification on clearly conflicting stories. I did not support Newt or Romney and at present, am appalled on the circular firing squad going on amongst the candidates.

What I do think is that whatever the truth, whatever the skeletons, whatever the stuff that the candidates do not want to have out, we, the voters, need to know it now, indeed, have the right to know it now, not later when it is too late to change our minds. I would rather process the bad stuff now and get a solid candidate than wait for the dems to launch the ‘October Surprise’ and take our candidate down. The candidates owe us that much—to be honest with us. While that may run counter to many politicians, it is what we need.

I get the feeling that Rush was as frustrated as I am, hearing multiple conflicting stories, some from people he respects, and wondering who is telling the truth. As for the coordinated effort—that has been going on for a while. I am referring to the constant use of the phrase ‘Romney is the most electable’ and variations of the same. I did not buy it then, don’t buy it now, but someone has given out the talking points and the followers are pouring the koolaid for those who are not demanding truth, not demanding it NOW.

I spoke with my sister today and said basically the same thing—that we need to know now, not later. And, if I find that the candidates are lying.....suffice it to say that I will not support them, financially or via my vote.

Kraut is a very smart guy; even Rush admires his depth and knowledge. I think he is an insider; however, I wonder if some Romney operative didn't try to “push” him too hard and he is rebelling. He may have more integrity than I gave him credit for.

You may very well be correct, but Rush is now seen by me as an untrustworthy piece of slime and will be from here on out.

Rush could have shined, but he failed. check out Mark L. today-—he is on fire.

You have to understand that Rush is not his own man.

He has grown accustomed to the big bucks, and they will dry up if he supports Newt or Palin in any way. The establishment owns Rush right down to his socks.

COme on people, Rush doesn’t have to suck up to the potential nonimnee. Do you guys actually listen to his show. Don’t you remember his McCain commercials that were being played throughout the 2008 campaign (Playing until the first week in November).

I caught part of the show today. Rush basically broke down both sides of the aisle. He absolutely said that if Gingrich was really against Reagan, there is no way Nancy would have been with him on stage last year. If any of you read the Reagan Diaries you know that Nancy was Mama bear in protecting Ronald and would absolutely not had anything to do with Newt.

Rush did play the clips where Newt, in his own words, said that the Republicans and Senior Bush could not win with that playbook in 1988. Those were Newt’s words, so nobody here can try to say those were made up. At the end of what I heard I think Rush gave a pretty balanced analysis comparing Newt’s known leadership of Reagan but also showed where the soundbites were real and that it was strange and he didn’t know that side of GIngrich.

Rush was mocking conservatives with his show today.

Rush is in his fifth year of trying to get Mitt Romney into the White House.

Rush has no choice but to support the establishment, or become an ordinary nobody again. He’s been there, and isn’t going back, so get ready to either quit listening to him or lose your sanity.

Oh, I understand very well about being accustomed to wealth. Been with and without it, and as the saying goes -- rich is better. But when someone owns you down to your socks, it is NEVER about money. It is about one's character and values.

Your post made me cry. I feel the same way. My kids are teens, adopted from eastern Europe & Russia. I’ve read a lot of history, especially about Germany and Russia during the 20th century, and when I look to the future, it scares and saddens me for what we as a country are throwing away, the battle for the “soul of this country” as you said. Will my kids and grandkids have to live in the kind of socialist/communist country we took them out of?

We need to repent and return to the Lord and ask His help, aid and protection as we fight to preserve this wonderful, beautiful, free country. Psalm 46

Michael should do a couple of TV Ads for Newt, refuting the lies from McRomney. Also point out McRomney’s anti-Reagan history. Then flood the FL airwaves!

Citizen, I hear you loud and clear. You can count Ann Coulter along with many more I am sure. Our children change our outlook to much further than our own years. I am so exhausted. I have been glued to the political news for the last 3.5 years. I never imagined I would be living this way. Where is the great country I grew up in?

Or he’s on a lot of Bonneville Broadcasting radio stations and he doesn’t want to have a lot of audio tape trashing their candidate.

“My navigator has more personality then Romney.” So True!!!!

Great statement—and great letter to Rush. When Rush misses the boat, he really sinks. He should understand that Romney is a paleobama—Rush shows so much ignorance and stupidity (or corruption) when he supports such a person.
