Mike Reagan, Rush Limbaugh Blast Romney
Newsmax ^ | 1/26/2012 | Jim Meyers

Posted on 01/26/2012 2:54:10 PM PST by Raebie

Ronald Reagan’s eldest son Mike Reagan has issued a statement lambasting Mitt Romney and his supporters for claims that Romney’s Republican presidential rival Newt Gingrich was a strong critic of President Reagan. Reagan says such claims are false. Even Rush Limbaugh, shocked by the Romney claims, chimed on his Thursday radio broadcast to say "This is obviously a coordinated attack to take Newt out here in Florida." Rush slammed the Romney-backed smear campaign against Newt. “That kind of stuff is why people hate Romney so much," Limbaugh said. Limbaugh added that Newt has always been a conservative from his early days in national talk radio in the 1980s. “He was perhaps the premier defender of Ronald Reagan,” Limbaugh said. Note: Do You Support Gingrich or Romney? Vote in Urgent Poll — Click Here Now On Thursday, Mike Reagan, a respected conservative commentator, responded to the Gingrich critics with this statement to Newsmax: “I am deeply disturbed that supporters of Mitt Romney are claiming that Newt Gingrich is not a true Reaganite and are even claiming that Newt was a strong critic of my father. “Recently I endorsed Newt Gingrich for president because I believe that Newt is the only Republican candidate who has both consistently backed the conservative policies that my father championed and the only Republican that will continue to implement his vision. “It surprises me that Mitt Romney and his supporters would raise this issue — when Mitt by his own admission voted for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale who opposed my father, and later supported liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas for president. “As governor of Massachusetts, Romney’s achievement was the most socialistic healthcare plan in the nation up until that time.

You have to understand that Rush is not his own man. He has grown accustomed to the big bucks, and they will dry up if he supports Newt or Palin in any way. The establishment owns Rush right down to his socks.

Oh, I understand very well about being accustomed to wealth. Been with and without it, and as the saying goes -- rich is better. But when someone owns you down to your socks, it is NEVER about money. It is about one's character and values.

Your post made me cry. I feel the same way. My kids are teens, adopted from eastern Europe & Russia. I’ve read a lot of history, especially about Germany and Russia during the 20th century, and when I look to the future, it scares and saddens me for what we as a country are throwing away, the battle for the “soul of this country” as you said. Will my kids and grandkids have to live in the kind of socialist/communist country we took them out of?

We need to repent and return to the Lord and ask His help, aid and protection as we fight to preserve this wonderful, beautiful, free country. Psalm 46

Michael should do a couple of TV Ads for Newt, refuting the lies from McRomney. Also point out McRomney’s anti-Reagan history. Then flood the FL airwaves!

Citizen, I hear you loud and clear. You can count Ann Coulter along with many more I am sure. Our children change our outlook to much further than our own years. I am so exhausted. I have been glued to the political news for the last 3.5 years. I never imagined I would be living this way. Where is the great country I grew up in?

“My navigator has more personality then Romney.” So True!!!!

Great statement—and great letter to Rush. When Rush misses the boat, he really sinks. He should understand that Romney is a paleobama—Rush shows so much ignorance and stupidity (or corruption) when he supports such a person.

Romney is running on the wrong ticket. He is not a conservative and is not even a moderate republican. He is a leftwinger. Going after Newt over Reagan? Newt should go after Romney for voting for Carter! “It surprises me that Mitt Romney and his supporters would raise this issue — when Mitt by his own admission voted for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale who opposed my father, and later supported liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas for president. I wonder if some Romney operative didn't try to “push” him (Krauthammer) too hard and he is rebelling.

Krauthammer was very disillusioned and critical at how poorly Romney handled the initial and later questions concerning Bain Capital and his tax returns after (I think) during the final SC debate. That's when he really dropped off in his estimation of Romney.

the transcript made Rush sound not at all supportive of Newt. Just the opposite.

With each praise or criticism, Rush is being criticised for endorsing or condemning on a daily basis.....

Rush has merely given praise where praise is due and criticism where criticism is due.......there's nothing wrong with that.

People need to get a life outside of politics.......

And that means what, O transcendent one?

I have a life outside of politics, and plenty of it. I won't have one much longer if politics keep going this way.

In the meantime, send me a postcard from Nirvana.

The Nature of Man....yes, biology is everything—genetic connections to the past and the future make people care deeply about the future and even die for it. Without that love and connection, there is no motivation to give up your life or comforts and no motivation to believe in God.

Family creates not only Faith but meaning in life and the very reason for private property rights, etc. Family creates selflessness—especially when you give birth to offspring-—the self sacrifice in raising children and understanding human nature can only be realized in actively working with and being involved in raising children.

Marxist ideology loathes the family unit—because of the loyalty inherent in it—and toward God and away from the State. Marxism is all about destroying all biological connection-—to destroy children and that idea of God which is generated by the family unit and by the “father” figure.

Without a care for family—there is never a reason to fight for anything-—just take whatever and live life to the fullest—esp. if you are godless—nothing is worth sacrifice and suffering.

I have thought exactly the same way as you about Rush over the years. I think the same about Ann Coulter. Raising children—that experience is crucial to understanding human nature-—your own nature-—and the evil of ideas (such as Marxism) which destroys little children-—destroys their future—destroys their dreams. That breaks parents’ hearts to know the evil world which children will face if they don’t fight for a better world.

So, yes, Rush is lacking understanding—he is too self-centered-—that selfishness which most people who are never parents, exhibit. Some are much worse than others-—although I think Rush has some connections to his brother, David’s kids. But still, it is not the same.

Only Godly people like Mother Theresa can form such love for other people’s children. Atheists never do. They allow other people’s families to be killed off, etc. At least, that is what history proves. Only the Godly people, like Bonhoeffer who had no children—will fight and give his life for other people’s children with a concern for the future world.

Rush has that need to be “popular” and “liked” by the wealthy. I see it with his refusal to say anything negative about the vile acts of sodomy-—placating those who are trying to destroy marriage and the family with moral relativism.

Rush is not a true Conservative and never was. You have to have a strong stance on Moral Absolutes always and he doesn’t. His divorces prove that along with his wishy washy condemnation of Marxist ideology and Marxists like Romney and the hierarchy of gender.

I feel the exact same way. I’m so pissed off with these charlatans, RUSH included in this election cycle, that I couldn’t even bring myself to listen today. I knew he’d be marble-mouthed again and I was in NO mood for it. That day he spent the entire 3 hours slamming Newt about “anti-capitalism”, I nearly lost it. To say I’m disappointed in him is a huge understatement!

that clip of Newt was 30 seconds from an hour and a half show on CSPAN.

He said that he didn’t think Bush would win if he just ran on the past 8 years and didn’t have a plan for the future, if he just ran as Reagan.

Newt was right.

Bush was down big to Dukakis the spring and summer of 1988 as he tried to just run as Reagan. Finally in the 88 convention speech he gave this speech where he said he was his own man and did exactly what Newt said he should do, offer a forward looking agenda instead of just counting on the past 8 yrs to win it for him.

After that speech Bush took the lead and never looked back.

Bush followed Newt’s advice and he won big.

He never attacked Reagan’s policies or issues. In the same clip he supports it and says it won 49 states the last time. But he says that it’s now 88 and we can’t just assume after 8 yrs of the same party that that will be enough.

He basically says Bush needs to take the principles of Reagan, which worked in the past, and apply them to the future and the new challenges over the next 4 years.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Meanwhile in 1994 well after the Reagan years Romney completely disasscoiated himself from the mand and his policies. That same year Newt was leading conservatives sto their biggest win yet and the next phase of the Reagan revolution./

“I only read the transcript of his remarks”

My impression is the Rush at first just repeated the attacks, said that he hadn’t heard that before. Then he defended Newt as pro-Reagan and he gave evidence for Newt doing that. He said that Newt did to Clinton what the GOP in congress should be doing to Obumass now.

He wasn’t trashing Newt. Am I wrong?

Sad that Bimbaugh is pulled into this. He's just oh so set......good for him. In my world, it's ANYONE but Romney. I will not vote for Romney under any circumstances. If Rush and Coulter are for Mittens.......something is so very askew. Sickening......!!

I’m with you. I don’t understand why everyone is so upset with Rush. I listen to him every day and he gives every candidate equal time for dissection. Then he has to deal with the people who call in all ticked off because he won’t promote one candidate over all the others. What they don’t seem to realize is that WHOEVER the candidate turns out to be, Rush is going to have to support him. It just wouldn’t look good to choose someone and then have to do a 180 later. That, and the fact that the LSM would skewer him as “irrelevant” if his chosen candidate lost.

The root of our problems in this country is the total disregard for the Constitution. There’s only one candidate who is advocating a return to limited government — Ron Paul.

Rush was off his game today. He repeated himself so much you could take the three hours and podcast into one.

To be fair, he was just questioning some of the recent Newt backtracks like on friends he offered to ABC, etc.

But it did seem to be a piling on.

Rush should be on the front lines countering the lies. Instead, he’s sitting around being befuddled while blogs and forums like this are doing the dirty work and figuring it out.

That's correct. Mr. Limbaugh knows quite well Speaker Gingrich's history and positions, and he certainly should know about Governor Romney's also. There's simply no comparison between the two: Mr. Gingrich is a far superior candidate to Mr. Romney.

Mr. Romney would be a far more comfortable fit in the Democrat party. Mr. Romney not only won't renounce his own Romneycare, he also wants to keep Obamacare. This is anathema to any thinking person.

Rush has lost me because of his game playing over the past few weeks. This cycle isn’t just about presidential election, it’s is about the very survival of our country, yet Rush plays with doublespeak and sells his stupid tea. Rush can KMA.

I listened to Levin yesterday, he was on fire..... a true conservative and a patriot.
