Regulating the oven temp must have been an art.

“.Few or no neighbors, few witnesses, few or no prying eyes or cameras...People leave their doors unlocked, everyone is trusting, etc...All the things criminals like.”

Not sure which ‘rural area’ he’s talking about.
Here in Hillbilly Heaven, everybody knows everybody else and also knows who everybody else knows so ‘suspicious strangers’ don’t slip through often.

The doors may or may not be unlocked but you have to run a gauntlet of ‘yard and porch dogs’ to find out.

As far as ‘no witnesses’, well, hell, we just consider that a bonafide plus...;D

The few times I *have* seen strangers wandering around the neighbors’ property, I “just happened to be going out right then” with a 30.30 slung over my shoulder and stopped to chat with them, real neighborly-like.

They all took off and never came back.

None of the neighbors knew the people based on the description I gave, later.

Don’t know what those folks were ‘up to’ but they didn’t succeed at it.

We take “neighborhood watch” to a whole new level.

Since Gov. O’Malice gave us a great castle doctrine we don’t see ‘strangers’ at all, any more.

The funniest incident was when a bunch of granola punks thought they’d ignore all the no trespassing signs on dad’s mountain and “go hiking” up there.

When they tried to get back out, hubby had pulled the Yukon across the lane, blocking their exit and was waiting with a shotgun for them.

My dad came down and went ballistic on them about the “possible consequences of trespassing” and by the time he was done they were crying and begging to go home.

That was pretty funny.

“My “Farm” is way too small to blip on the beaurocrats’ radar.”

Type your address into Google maps and get back to us on that.

There’s no such thing as “the middle of nowhere” or “off the radar”, any more.

We’ve gotten a *lot* of mileage out of that movie where I live.

I remember my family going to see it at the Maryland Theatre when it was a movie house instead of a snooty concert hall like it is, now.

We were sitting there surrounded by city folk, cheering for the hillbillies.

[it -did- all start when a smart ass flatlander shot at one of them...we had no pity for *that* yuppie party]

Next up was “Southern Comfort”.

Those were two great movies.

:)

I’m sorry, I just haven’t reached quite that level of paranoia. Yet.

The I suggest you forgo the Google search and definitely don’t subscribe to Intelius.

Personally, I gave up giving a damn a long time ago.

I know they know who/where I am and have settled upon simply “dying well” when the time comes.

Sometimes it’s actually better to hunker down where you are and look deserted. Break a few windows and throw some trash around your house, ...

Certainly you're familiar with the concept of "Devil's Night".

Even if your house looks like it contains nothing of value, there are those who will burn it "just for fun".

Best sign combo ever:

We haven't even had any of those infamously pesky Jehovah's Witnesses in years.

[even the Census scum leaves us be]

More like a razor’s edge dance with psychoses...you *couldn’t* really ever “regulate” it.

It just so happened that the ‘normal temps’ were great for baking bread and pies.

Everything else was left up to prayer and luck....;D

I’m with you.

We live in suburbia and I have no intention of going anywhere. We don’t have a “Beware of Dog” sign. We have a dog. Every member of the family shoots and shoots well.

They may eventually overrun us, but they’re going to have to stumble through and over the piles of bloody rotting corpses in the street and yard to get to us.

Holy CRAP!!! You’re absolutely correct and you’re right, I should have known of Devil’s Night, being from Detroit and all.

Time to make a plan B.

Is it ... perhaps ... for sale?

LOL! Just the way I feel. But seriously, if you have a sign you don't even need a dog (not that I would EVER be without one or 4). We had 2 big guys delivering a new dishwasher ring the bell and run back to the safety of their truck because of the SECURITY DOG sign. They yelled “is de security dawg chained up?”. My husband yelled back “yes, both of them”. We have 3 Jack Russel Terrorist and a big fat hound dog. Not a danger to anybody but they let me know if anyone is around.

I love your signs, especially this first one. We don't have many (or any) Jehovah's Witnesses bothering us but we do have people who pretend to be selling magazines but they are really casing your house to come back later and rob you.

They see my dog signs and go next door. When they get to my neighbors house, who don't have a sign but they have 2 English Mastiffs who come to the door, the scumbags beat a hasty retreat. Dogs are wonderful!

The old Monarch?

Went to MD metals for scrap.

Iron rusts, especially the thinner bits like the water tank, chimney pipe and back wall.

It was totally unusable any more.

You can, however, find them cheap from people trying to unload them.

They weigh a ton and ‘free for hauling away’ is not uncommon, here.

The ocean is a marvelous thing. You can bathe in it, wash clothes in it and always find food in it. You can’t drink it but you can if you have have a desalination system. It’s also nice to be somewhere that you can’t freeze to death. You might get hot in the summer but you can always cool off in the ocean and find a spot in the shade. Plus it’s warn enough to grow vegetable and fruits year round. I’ll take warm over bitter cold any day of the week.
