I watched an extremely disturbing TV program about two boys in high school who killed a girl solely for the experience. Both boys, having aspirations of becoming movie producers, documented their murder adventure on video. Their video included a playful interview with their unsuspecting victim at her school locker. The obviously bright and beautiful girl looked into the camera, laughing while answering the boys' silly questions. Later that evening, the boys bludgeoned and stabbed her to death. One of the two boys commented, "Making murder illegal makes people want to do it." I realize that this case is an extreme incident.
Another TV program featured a police sting operation. A car was parked unlocked, with the key in the ignition, to attract car thieves. A well-organized gang of five kids ranging in ages from 13 to 15, without hesitation, stole the car. All five kids cussed like sailors and wore their pants below their butts.
Again, I realize that this incident of a gang of middle- and junior high school kids stealing a car is anecdotal. However, unquestionably, many youths today are callous towards the sanctity of life and are void of a moral compass regarding right and wrong.
Something that has bugged me for years is the way '60s-generation movie and TV producers think it is "far out" (cool) for kids to speak disrespectfully to their parents. Call me old-fashioned, but I flip the channel whenever I see a kid smart-mouthing his parent and getting away with it. I simply cannot stomach it.
This '60s-generation liberal mindset of parents being buddies with their children, relating to them as equals, affording them a right to privacy, and other nonsense is a part of the problem.

The last TV show I saw in which a child respected his parent was The Andy Griffith Show. Opie always said "yes sir" and "no sir" to his dad.
On the other hand, I had to turn off a stupid '60s-generation-mindset movie. In the movie, grandparents asked their son and daughter-in-law why they were not having their new baby baptized. In that '60s, we're-too-sophisticated-for-God way, the couple replied, "We're not going to push any religion on our child. We'll let him grow up and make up his own mind."
This type of anti-parent, anti-societal rule behavior is also seen in some of the cartoons for the little ones. Mom and Dad are portrayed as morons and the kids are rude and extremely disrespectful. Over the years, I have forced myself to watch the programs and monitor which cartoons are appropriate or not.

Commercials - and not just for kids’ products - are the worst offenders.. Not only do they portray the Kids Rule the World meme as ‘normal’, but they are ubiqitous - more often aired multiple times in Prime Time than limited to Saturday Morming Cartoons...
I hope this is all cyclical. When I read this, it sure sounded a lot like “helter skelter” and Manson. Remember when the police were “pigs” and we were “the man”, sex,drugs and rock and roll ruled the youth. Occupy seems to be just another version of Woodstock. The things that are happenning now are not new and if history repeats itself, it won’t last. I suppose when rebellion becomes the norm, the norm becomes rebellion. I can only hope.
It’s not.
Disrespect is a way of life in the entertainment industry. Disrespect of wives to husbands, children to parents and siblings to each other.
Name one show in the past 10 years that had respect in it.
I have noticed this trend for many years - my oldest is 24 and my youngest is 14. It is one of the reasons that watching television was/is severely rationed in our home.
So far this “lack” of much TV watching has produced good results in our daughters. The disrepect of American children toward their parents and teachers is appalling. It also goes directly against the Honor thy mother and Father commandment. It is up to the parents to form their children and not allow this insidious attitude to take root.
And, as someone else pointed out - it starts right at the beginning with the cartoons. Don’t let your kids get hooked on those seemingly innocuous cartoons - they have insidious subliminal messages.
I take it one step further and see even more disrespect towards the father than the mother. Dad is often portrayed as a bumbling, aloof, clueless goofball while Mom’s the one that holds everything together.
Father hasn’t been the true head of the household in the entertainment world for a long time, and I truly believe it has had an effect on our culture.
You are very correct. If there is both a Mom and Dad... Mom is portrayed as the more intelligent, holding it together in spite of Dad. For example, in the cartoon, “Calliou”... Mom has the full time job and Dad stays home with the kids. Okay... I understand that is done in families BUT the Dad is portrayed as “wishy washy”, weak and way more emotional than the Mom. “Johnny Test” is another example. Dad wears dish washing gloves, stays home and Mom is the one is goes off to work in a business suit. Dad is of lower intelligence and Mom is obviously brilliant. The message, in my opinion, weakens the Father’s role in the family rather than elevates a working Mother’s role. Personally, I like the cartoon, “Little Bill” since it shows both parents involved with the children and they are intelligent, respectful and emphasize right from wrong. Plus, it brings in a grandmother figure who is loving, kind, and also involved. IMHO.
Name one show in the past 10 years that had respect in it.
My family and I watch “the Middle” together. They are not the “leave it to beaver” family but that type of family doesn’t exist anymore ( I don’t know that it ever did). They are a pretty average family. There is little “instant” respect, but a lot of earned and learned respect. There is no sex, gays or swearing and the girls dress and are normal if not a little dorky. I’m sure if you look hard enough you could find things you don’t like about it, but I think it is one of the few out there that reflects the importance of family.
Don’t forget that men and Dads are even lower than Moms.
If they are even portrayed.
Just goes to show you that the left revels in their rebellion to God.
Just step through the 10 commandments, from 10 down to 1 is easier, and you can see how the left is proudly in opposition it every single one of them.
This is their proud defiance of the 5th.
Satan’s main enemy, besides the Church, is the family, the first human institution created by God.
The father was created as the head of the family, and the left, doing their “father’s” bidding, seeks to destroy him and the concept of fatherhood.

We ditched the cable three years ago. We watch a lot of Create and Japanese telly. We are always looking for a good show to catch on Hulu or Netflix. I’ll have to look “the Middle” up.
That being said, I fear the show is an anomaly.

I’m not bragging, but I have awesome, respectful well mannered children. I think the key is establishing a good relationship with your children so that they know whatever the world does to them, they can always count on their family. Trust me, they are well aware of the brainwashing that occurs on t.v. and in the movies. I have covered well the concept of propaganda. My children already recognize it for what it is and consider themselves too smart to fall for it. They are in Catholic school and are very aware of the war on Christianity. I am trying to give them as many tools as I can to navigated the times. It’s sad to me that I have to do this, but that’s what parents are for.
That being said, I fear the show is an anomaly.
You are right, it is. I think that is what makes it so popular. It is an island in a sea of garbage. The family does have their problems and are far from perfect, but it leaves you feeling good. They always come together and become a better family for it.

You will be lucky to see parents at all. iCarly there are no parents. The main character lives with her older brother who is more a perpetual 18 year old. Another show Victorious the parents of the main character are also a no show. Both are shows on Nickelodeon.
Where have they been? TV producers have been doing this since around 1972...
You are correct about Nickelodeon. The cheap Canadian import Degrassi is a major offender. There is more seedy sex on there than in most soaps aimed at adult women.
