President Obama tells a college audience that people don't get rich on their own. Obama's point that without government and paying your fair share, ultimately the successful wouldn't be able to get where they are.
"We do not begrudge wealth in this country. I want everybody here to do well. We aspire to financial success, but we also understand that we're not successful just by ourselves," President Obama said at a campaign event in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Friday morning.
"We're successful because somebody started the University of Michigan. We're successful because somebody made an investment in all the federal research labs that created the internet. We're successful because we have an outstanding military that costs money. We're successful because somebody built roads and bridges. And laid broadband lines and these things didn't just happen on their own. And if we all understand that we've got to pay for this stuff, it makes sense for those of us who've done best to do our fair share and to try to pass off that bill on to somebody else, that's not right. That's not who we are," he said.

Things like roads and bridges do facilitate industry but they don’t drive it. There was a growing need for an interstate highway system, the interstate didn’t create the need.

An often forgotten fact is that the interstate system was built to speed up the transport of military materiel in the advent of war and had nothing to do with helping industry or the public. Same with the internet and information.

I want to ask any of these hardcore leftists (they are NOT liberals) what % of total taxation (Fed, state, local, etc.) would be considered too much? One’s income is part of their personal property. It AMAZES me how the hardcore left continues to justify the increased taking of ones personal property and thus taking away more and more of one’s freedom. The interstate highway system was built on fraud in the first place, congress did not have the constitutional authority to construct a highway system, they were shot down numerous times by the courts, they then decided on a national rouse that the highway system was necessary for National Security, the Courts and Congress went along with the rouse and that is how we got our interstate highway system. BASED ON FRAUD AND DECEIT, not that it isn’t a good thing in the long run, just the way it was done, thereby giving CONTROL TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Had the States done it on their own, we would be much better off.

Right now, 'my fair share' is close to 50% not including PROPERTY TAXES, GASOLINE TAXES, SALES TAXES, LICENSES & FEES, etc., etc., etc.....
None of that negates the fact that it was actually good for business even if it wasn’t the intent.

I agree, We needed it and it worked out pretty well, with the exception of the Controlling Authority by the Feds, but the way it was done is how we screw ourselves, by disregarding the Chains of the Constitution and using trickery and fraud to disobey the Constitution, in the end we will all lose, because this behavior perpetuates that behavior.

Our real problem with the highway system today is due to waste, fraud, stupidity, etc. After all we shouldn’t be funding city transportation projects, rain gardens and museums out of highway funds. As far as I’m concerned the highway funds should be strictly restricted to upkeep on interstates and related bridges and nothing else.
I’m even OK with letting some roads here in Michigan return to dirt if they have minimal traffic. I live on a dirt street that hasn’t seen a snow plow for years and I’m just fine.
