PALM BEACH — First lady Michelle Obama finished a daylong sweep through Florida on Thursday asking a crowd of supporters at an oceanfront estate here to support her husband - knock on doors, register others to vote and "take your neighbors and shake them up a bit."

The enthusiastic crowd of about 140 gave the first lady several rounds of applause and shouts of "Yes!" during her 25-minute speech. The most enthusiastic came after she recalled her husband's first official act in office - signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which amended the statute of limitations to bring an equal-pay lawsuit.

"He knows what it means when women are not treated well in the workplace," the first lady said, recalling that the president was raised by a single mother who rode the bus to the bank where she worked. "She hit the glass ceiling. For him, this is not abstract or hypothetical."
