As was the common theme among liberal Republicans and Democrats at the time, Romney proclaimed in a March 3, 2004 press release that “fair and affordable housing should be a right, not a privilege.” According to a review of press releases from his administration, Governor Romney pledged approximately $350 million in state and federal funds and low-income housing tax credits to build more affordable housing and assist low-income borrows with special mortgage financing.

"Romney proclaimed in a March 3, 2004 press release that “fair and affordable housing should be a right, not a privilege.”"

Limousine liberal pretending to be an "R".

Think about it..how hard would it be to pull that off with the liberal Media on your side?

The guy is over the top, pathetically liberal..you never hear about any of it.

Great article.

Rombama called Newt an "influence peddler" for Freddie/Fannie, yet HE "peddled" the very same "product" that caused the housing crisis!

Rombama must be called out on this!!

I just heard today that Bamster is sicking the Feds on "the banks who've caused this (housing) crisis". The banks? The banks were forced to make these crap loans!!

I don't know who's campaign is spinning faster - Bamster's or Rombama's.

Like Soros says...They're one and the same.

The question is did Bain profit from the housing mkt collapse and if it did, how involved was Romney in the equation if any? It may have been legal however was it ethical? The revolving door of private to gv't and back require a beyond reproach scrutiny that is much needed. There are too many interconnecting dots that need to be scrutinized and made public. He is running for the president of the United States and this line of inquiry seems foggy at best.

Profiting from the collapse of the housing market in it of itself is not the issue but gaming the system is. Romney may be squeaky clean on this however the rats are going to look into this given their playbook.

I think I read an article a few days back that he also was paying lobbyists to ensure that Fannie/Freddie was not reined in.

I object to calling this scheme “affordable housing”. It was encouraging risky loans that normal lending standards would not permit.

The bubble during that period actually made homes less affordable as prices inflated. Course there is no doubt that the foreclosed homes are now imminently affordable. Somehow, I don't think that is what most Americans have in mind when they hear this term.
