On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh highlighted an article in The American Spectator by Jeffrey Lord that picked apart and called misleading Elliot Abrams’ article in National Review about Newt Gingrich.
The article prompted Limbaugh to conclude Abrams must have been “spoon-fed” the material about Gingrich’s after-hours speeches on the House floor in the 1980s by rival Mitt Romney’s campaign.

I believe you are exactly correct. A Romney guy is in charge at the Restuarant association and had direct access to the files. What I found strange is some of the details that were provided.

Revealing that Romney has lied actually helps Newt the more people hear it.
Rush did his dirty work on Thursday, and this is how he rubbed our faces in it, he knew what he was doing, he teased us with the fact that he knew the truth, and then tossed the truth into the trash.
RUSH (on ‘Bloody Thursday’) But I’ve got a blog here, guy named Dan Riehl. He claims that the video of Newt bashing Reagan is bogus, this 1988 audio that we played of Newt saying that Reagan’s wrong.
Here’s the little blog post. “There’s a short excerpt of a 1988 C-SPAN video purportedly showing Newt Gingrich bashing Reagan when talking about how Bush, Sr. should run” his campaign, should not run as more Reagan, but do something new. Riehl writes, “As I suspected, it’s edited to give a false impression. What you don’t see is immediately after when Gingrich praises Reaganism and the Reagan platform. If you can’t watch it all, it begins at about 2:30 in to confirm it’s the same segment. It’s the minute or two afterward you also need to hear to understand that Newt wasn’t bashing Reagan at all. He was merely saying, Bush isn’t Reagan and the GOP needs something new to sell.”
So I knew something like this was gonna happen. It’s not really that it’s been doctored, but that it has been selectively chosen from. So I sent it up to Cookie ‘cause I can’t listen to it, I didn’t have the time to listen it. Cookie said, “Look, this thing is an hour long. I’m sure he praises Reagan at some point or another, but I wouldn’t say it’s doctored.” So my expert says it’s not doctored. The blogger says it’s been selectively edited or chosen. So I just wanted to get it out there. I think Cookie is protesting having to listen to an hour of Newt, basically, in order to find — (laughing) — what I asked her to find. He-he-he-he-he-he.

The mask is off Romney. He let it fall on Monday at the debate, and went for broke on Thursday. He’s no good, and neither are his minions. Christie, Sununu, Dole, Abrams, and the rest should be blackballed for their treachery.

So, to go after and tick off Bachmann, Cain, Perry, and now Gingrich is simply a question of following the playbook.
But Romney, well, he doesn’t deal with his PACs, donchaknow, so he’s not responsible.
It’s just that it’s HIS TURN to be the nominee. And he’s paid a lot of people a lot of money to get there.
Limbaugh is doing the “death by a thousand cuts” routine and/or "damning by faint praise" on Newt. Rush is being duplicitous; how does the guy who proclaims he is always “99.9% right” and the knower of all things Reaganesque not know this was a crap story to begin with?
If Rush had any doubts (which he admits he did) he should NEVER have put a damaging story out to his listeners. As he said; “You can't put the genie back in the bottle.” He knew what he was doing and now he is just trying to establish plausible deniability. Rush is no true Conservative; he does not walk the talk. He wants to keep his market share; it's just business.
Rush playing both sides. I quit listening to him. He did sing Abrams praises as having impeccable character but today he blamed the gop establishment. Damage already done. We need a miracle to bring Newt back up in Fla..it is organization. Newt’s got people that could hit Drudge and go viral on some anti Mitt dirt. They need to get busy NOW

They all have the same Mitt Rombama script of "Romney is the most electable conservative" (who the eff' can ever call him a conservative?). This prick, Todd Schnitt, pisses me off the most. They put him on in our Memphis market radio about 6 months ago and he was a great conservative voice...now he spends damned near the entire program foaming at the mouth over Newt, and although I admittedly listen (I must hate myself subconsciously) I want to reach through the radio and shove a Buick Skylark down his throat.
I can't listen to music radio all day at work and I can't fathom going NPR, so I continue daily to listen to these guys, some of whom were my giants not a mere 6 weeks ago. Now they make me want to vomit.

It is completely off, and what I see is hideous.
I used to think that Romney was probably a nice enough man, but just a little too moderate for my comfort. Now I see what he really is, and it is not anything with which I care to associate. He surrounds himself with vipers and revels in the mire, and as it turns out, is one with them.
At the beginning of the primary season, I said that I would support the eventual nominee—basically ABO. I no longer think that. I am so disgusted over this primary and the duplicitous nature of Romney that I will not support him. I will vote the rest of the ticket, but if he is the nominee, I will write-in someone else.
I will be able to look at myself in the mirror and will sleep just fine. I will continue to place my trust and faith in Christ.
God’s Will be done.

For instance, I know Rush has a huge audience and likely has some Romney supporters amongst his listeners as well as Santorum supporters. Rush wants and needs to at least keep his market share to keep his profits up. I can understand that; I just hate his duplicity after all his previous histrionics that’ve gotten everyone so churned up they believe it's the end of the world if we can't elect a Conservative. So, now that the primaries are here, suddenly, Rush can't seem to endorse either Newt or Santorum over arch-liberal Romney. Does that make any sense? Of course it doesn't.
My conclusion is that this election cannot be as life or death important as Rush and others opined over the past many months if Rush can't make the simple decision to call out Romney for what he is ...a liberal, a liar and a phony.
I think Rush's and several of the others jobs are to keep the Conservative base fragmented and fired up for the GOP-E so that we can then be stampeded at the last moment into supporting whatever candidate they foist on us. The elitists do it every time; and then blame us when they lose ...as they did when McCain lost. No one can convince me there is a significant difference between Romney and Obama; they're both evil and dangerous to the Republic; but, Romney could well be worse; especially if he has a complicitous group of GOP elitists in the House and Senate.
So, what does all this get us if we vote for Romney? The same thing voting for Dole and McCain did; nothing. Isn't this the same as the old proverb that defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? They're using us as pawns and they will never respect us if we keep giving in to them. It's like the wife or girlfriend who gets beaten up time and again by her husband/boyfriend and keeps coming back for more because she believes he truly loves her. Sad, very sad.
I'm not playing that game anymore; I will go rogue if Romney is nominated. I've given the GOP over 40 years of consistent voting support at the local, state and federal levels; that's more than enough.
If the GOP elitists want Romney so badly they are willing to lie, cheat and totally negate any of my choices (GOP elites have locked the VA primary so that Romney and Ron Paul are the only ones on the ballot ...I can't even write in Newt!); that's fine; but, they can do it w/o my vote or support. I will lodge a protest vote of some kind and try to get as many Tea Party Conservatives as possible elected at the local, state and Congressional levels.
So, as one of my old bosses liked to say; “Sir, I believe we're in violent agreement upon that!”
