Mitt Romney Leading Polls in Florida [Pollster: "I Think If Romney Wins This, It's Over For Newt"]

Mitt Romney Leading Polls in Florida Mitt Romney has pulled ahead of Newt Gingrich in Florida with a nine-point lead, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. 'I think if Romney wins this, it's over for Newt,' one pollster says.

Fearful GOP leaders pray Newt Gingrich can be stopped in Florida

By Paul West January 27 — After months of gyrating front-runners and inconclusive voter tests, a victory by Mitt Romney in the looming Florida primary would send the 2012 campaign down a well-worn path — pointing the most established GOP contender toward a highly competitive race against President Obama in the fall election.

If Newt Gingrich wins, the contours of the battle would be radically different: a prolonged intraparty struggle unlike any the GOP has seen in decades, pitting the former House speaker as an insurgent force against many present and former elected officials he once led, with unpredictable consequences in November if he is the nominee.

Romney has, for now at least, pulled ahead of Gingrich in the roller-coaster campaign for Florida. An opinion survey of Florida Republicans, released Friday by Quinnipiac University, showed Romney leading Gingrich by nine points, 38% to 29%. Rep. Ron Paul and former Sen. Rick Santorum were far back, at 14% and 12%, respectively.

"I think if Romney wins this, it's over for Newt," said John McLaughlin, a veteran Republican pollster who is unaffiliated in the presidential campaign. Looking ahead, Romney has the advantage in the Feb. 4 Nevada caucuses and other, largely symbolic contests next month, including a nonbinding Feb. 7 primary in Missouri, where Gingrich failed to qualify for the ballot.

So far we have only heard from 3 states, 4 counting Fla, there are 46 states still to hear from so this is no where near over. It fact it is just getting started. relax get some beer and popcorn it is going to be a long fight.

But if Newt wins, we will be told that Florida was irrelevant, then the next state up will become the "must win" state for Newt. However, Romney doesn't have a "must win" state apparently, I guess he can lose the next 10 in a row and still be the presumed nominee by the media.

“Over” my ass. FL is only 50 delegates. And the elites don’t make the rules any longer.

Why the Hot Hell is Florida so Damn important!?

Lets see

Iowa-Blue State

New Hampshire-Blue State- Romney

South Carolina- Red State- Newt

Florida- Purple State at Best

I mean they even got half there delegates taken away, I am sick of have 4 states determine the fate of the rest, and once the other states have had enough, we are in for some bad times my friends.

Unfortunately for us, with house these things play out, I don't disagree with the pollsters assessment.

FL is a huge symbolic prize. Winning, particularly sizeably, will put Romney back on track and give him the momentum to have this all wrapped up neatly for Super Tuesday. It's just the psychology of these things.

February has almost no debates and Romney-friendly territory like Mormon-heavy Nevada and Michigan where he was born and daddy was governor.

The only real chance of keeping this nomination battle going is to rob Romney of a win in FL.

Palin warned similarly in her Facebook post today. She and I agree -- ongoing competition and vetting makes the nominee stronger.

If you want Santorum or Paul and don't like Newt, but live in FL and want to see Romney not seize the nomination after just four states, vote Newt to put him over the top.

Deny the establishment their victory. Fight back.

WTH? Are you saying that Newt won’t be on the ballot in Missouri?

Mitt won't be on the primary ballot in Missouri.

But...it's a meaningless primary. Only a straw vote. The delegates will be assigned by a caucus scheduled for March -- in which Gingrich will participate.

How is it over for Newt. He will only be down by 30 or so delegates? I’m sick of this Brainwashing B.S.
We have the VOTES! Not Romney! We just need to get Santorum to take one for the team! Gingrich has earned this moment. If you don’t know the history of Newt Gingrich then you need to do some homework and find out. Rick’s time can come later.

in which Gingrich will participate.

Here in MO people are still ticked that Newt blew off the Primary ... there’s already a Santorum billboard a mile from my house and David Limbaugh endorsed Santorum...don’t assume Gingrich will do well in the caucus...

God- should He so choose.

He may be looking to see what kind of spine and spirit we have, though.

We know how the Book ends; we just don’t know when and where and how soon it ends.

I intend to fight and advocate until I breathe no longer.

If Newt doesn’t contest every single primary and caucus I would lose all respect for him. Let’s see how much of a fighter he is. I have already accepted that Romney will pull out FLA but there’s a long way to go after that and some very favorable stretches for Newt.

For the life of me I cannot understand what is going on. When did we give the power to nominate our President to an elite group?

Why are they fighting the will of the people?

What the crap has happened?

And do they think we are so stupid to vote they way they command?

Are we Americans and will we put up with this?

I am getting angry

I think they believe Gingrich’s momentum will be slowed if he loses FL, funds would dry, and its all over.

Florida and Ohio are two very important states because they can go either GOP or democrat. And both have large electoral votes.

That pic I posted in post #2 REALLY has me pissed!!

What are the chances of the THREE of them having a “meeting” FOUR DAYS before the Florida primary??????

Tell me now how it DOESN’T look like a “conspiracy” against the Tea Party and Newt.

Get Romney nominated, NO MORE conservative Tea Party backed candidate.

Set Romney up like a Little League T-Ball for Obama to hit outta the park in November, and THEN Jeb gets his 2016 shot with the Tea Party officially dead.

(....oooops..forgot my Reynolds Wrap cap.....)

Gallup is accurate, but a national poll should not be compared to a state poll.

The lame-stream media is going to run with Romney’s unreported Swiss bank account all weekend, so that will take Myth down some..

1. Newt IS on the MO caucus ballot that COUNTS

2. Newt is polling very well in Nevada home of Adelson who’s already given Newt’s camp $10 mil.

3. Newt loses a chance at VA delegates ONLY. Period.
