School lunches are about to get much healthier. First Lady Michelle Obama announced today that soon the meals will have less sodium, and will include more whole grains and more fruits and vegetables as sides. The new rules, which will go into effect in the 2012-2013 school year, will also allow schools to serve tofu and other soyfoods and soymilk to children who regularly consume them at home.
Obama said that children who are on a sugar high or have a tummy filled with high-sodium, greasy food have difficulty focusing on their schoolwork.
"As parents, we try to prepare decent meals, limit how much junk food our kids eat, and ensure they have a reasonably balanced diet," Obama said. "And when we're putting in all that effort, the last thing we want is for our hard work to be undone each day in the school cafeteria."
Schools are finding that when they actually offer these healthier options, kids arent just willing to try them, they actually like them. That's the thing, that's the surprising thing, Obama said. I've been to so many schools across the country where parents see their kids eating fresh vegetables off the vine, kids they say would never try anything, but that's the beauty of children they change.

We ain’t friggin’ rabbits....and what I eat is absolutely none of your business.
Yo, Moouchell...GET OUTA MY BELLY!!!!!!!!!!
When is the last time Moochelle actually set foot in a kitchen to COOK for her own children? Not in quite a while I bet.
NO! NO! NO! Soy has proven negative effects on testosterone production in developing males, and it can cause devastating issues such as gynecomastia (male boobs), depression, extreme weight gain, and even sterility if given in high enough concentrations.
FUMO! They are continuing the aggression against males set in motion by the feminists in the 70s and 80s. This will not end well, and as a matter of fact, they tried to do this crap in California, and it was a miserable failure! The kids wouldn't touch the food and a black market for junk food emerged.
And she has what authorty to do this?
Does anyone else remember when parents were really responsible for their kids.?
Beat you by two seconds! Too funny!
You beat me by TWO WHOLE SECONDS?!
And my comments sort alphabetically in front of you, so I win ties as well!
Michelle wants to be on the board of the Soylent corporation.
Her whole speach is lies - when tested - kids hated her food.
When you let the “government camel’s nose” get under your tent flap, this is what results. When the government pays for the lunches, they get to say what the lunch consists of. I have a problem when an unelected idiot makes decisions without any authority.
The Nazi Model for Outcome-Based Education
The source of the following quotations is the 1983 book, Nazism: A History in Documents and Eyewitness Accounts, 1919-1945, edited by J. Noakes and G. Pridham in cooperation with the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Exeter.
Change the children first: "The Nazi leadership appreciated the difficulty of indoctrinating the older generation.... They were all the more determined to mold the new generation along Nazi lines. As the leader of the Nazi Teacher's League, Hans Schemm, put it: 'Those who have the youth on their side control the future.'" (416)
When an opponent declares, 'I will not come over to your side.' I calmly say, 'Your child belongs to us already
What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community. Adolf Hitler
Hello, room service?
Send up a large platter of lobster appetizers, a 16 oz. Kobe Beef steak and two 11 oz. lobster tails...what?
$480.00? I don’t care! Hurry up!
Exactly who elected this fat b*t*h food czar? I long for first ladies like Margaret Taylor, old Zach’s wife. I’ve read that when she attended his funeral, observers wondered who the woman in black was. That’s the perfect first lady: totally obscure.
I hope my comment doesn’t kill your thread.
Will the FLOTUS suggest all the school children should take $4,000,000.00 vacations to Hawaii this summer???h
So malleable, so programmable, so unlike their stiff-necked parents.
If her Highness wanted to have a real impact on healthy diets she should be pressing for limiting what can be purchased with EBT /food stamps. I often see people at the grocery store with carts full of junk food and soda pay for it with EBT and I have never seen anyone using an EBT card to buy tofu. However, to limit the use of EBT cards to healthy food might alienate one of Obama's main voting blocks. Watch this video
Mrs. O is really on to something here. Reports from the LA County schools indicate that the ‘brown rice cutlets’ were a big favorite and fights were even breaking out among students who were attempting to grab a second helping.
Who appointed her to oversee what our children eat at school? As far as u know this is not one of her duties as first lady.
Some years ago, I was shopping for the 4th of July holiday. I was working my way up in the world & living on a strict budget. When I got in line with my meager groceries, a couple was in line ahead of me. They had two grocery carts overflowing. Both were dressed ‘to the nines’. She was loaded with gold jewelry, he had a pager (which at the time was a big deal) & plenty of bling as well. They were buying steaks, crab legs, lots of beer & wine, plus many other expensive items. They also had two bags of dog food (the really expensive stuff - my dog got the cheapo brand & was doing fine). I remember standing there, looking at their carts and thinking ‘wow!’. Then, they pulled out the food stamps at the cash register. I’m STILL not over the outrage.
FUMO!
There’s no question it would be advisable to have kids eat healthy. However Moochelle has gone about it in completely the wrong way. From one day to the next, she changed the menus to consist of things some of those kids have never eaten before. This is a process that should be introduced very gradually but Moochelle doesn’t get that.
Moochelle: "Barack! Barack! We had a great success in California! When they inroduced my new guidelines a black market for junk food emerged! Think of all the jobs created by the new market! We oughta do this nationwide!"
TOTUS: "Sweetheart, "black market" doesn't mean what you think. Uh,..."
Moochelle: "This can fix the unemployment problem for our people! Let's do it now!"
TOTUS: "Honey, now that you mention it, "black market" does refer to blacks and if it can get the economy going, specially among my base, maybe its a great idea. Let's do it now!"
LOL!!!
What is truly sad is that she knows she can say things like this because people, generally, will not know the mindset behind such words.
And while I could have made a comedic reply, as funny as those on this thread have been, I would rather attempt to inform others as to why she made such a comment, else we learn nothing and it stays nothing more than "a joke" at her expense.
It isn't a conspiracy when it's out in the open and right in front of your face and America is subtly being told exactly what is happening and they aren't even aware of what it is.
“Soy has proven negative effects on testerone...”
Yes! and plastic does its work as well with the pseudo estrogens..
Young freeper moms - buy cotton diapers and wash them on a clothes line - in the sun!!
See my previous post - this will go to the dumpster - pronto!!
Read reply #17.
I forgot to add - especially if you have sons!!
Do not let the boys sit in a plastic lined diaper -ever, ever ever, ever.
Plastic creates psuedo estrogens ....
Michelle Obama announced today that the meals will not have lobster.
“.. so malleable ... soo programmable .... so unlike their stiff necked parents”
Great point!! Instinctive truth does reign though...
I also saw read where tofu can cause something similar to steroid rage is some males.
This from the same government that declares Ketchup to be a vegetable, and sees no problems with a lunch that consists of pizza, corn and fries.
My grandchildren are back to making their own lunch and saving their parents a few bucks besides. It takes less time than going through the line at school, too.
If Michelle wanted a meaningful “cause” as first lady she should have chosen the depressed rate of marriage and astoundingly high out-of-wedlock birth rate among blacks.
She might have actually helped reduce the numbers of unfortunate black kids deprived of a father while being raised in one parent homes. In doing so she would have acccomplished something beneficial to blacks and the country.
She would have been able to exert influence among blacks that a white could not, and it would have been much less hypocritical on her part.
WHO DIED AND LEFT THE WOOKIE IN CHARGE OF SCHOOL LUNCH’S
Hasn’t she got a plane to catch?
I didn’t know there was a high out of wedlock birth rate for blacks I figured they just aborted them these days.
Guess you never know.
Just being facetious.
Who in the hell elected her to what office?
They are both high now aren't they?
Imagine what will happen when Roe v. Wade is overturned!
do as I say, not as I do... feh
Careful! That was a Reagan administration proposal!
Ketchup as a vegetable"The ketchup as a vegetable controversy refers to a proposed United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Drug Administration directive, early in the presidency of Ronald Reagan, that would have reclassified ketchup and pickle relish from condiments to vegetables, allowing public schools to cut out a serving of cooked or fresh vegetable from hot lunch program child-nutrition requirements.
Reagan's FY1982 budget proposed $57 billion in spending cuts, with $27 billion of those cuts to entitlements. The budget was later modified and passed as the Gramm-Latta Budget which cut $1 billion from the school lunch program and tasked the USDA with coming up with a solution that maintained nutritional requirements for school lunches in spite of the lower funding.[1] On September 3, 1981, the Secretary of Agriculture proposed classifying ketchup and pickle relish as vegetables to save money on school lunch programs."
