Emails Show How 'Fast and Furious' Ambush News Unfolded At Justice Dept.

For the first time, the Justice Department has made public a series of sensitive messages that passed to the highest levels of the agency within hours of an ambush that killed a U.S. border patrol agent along the Southwest border in December 2010, igniting a national scandal over a gun trafficking investigation gone wrong.

Justice officials sent the documents to Congress late Friday evening, only a few days before Attorney General Eric Holder is set to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The email messages show the former top federal prosecutor in Arizona, Dennis Burke, notifying an aide to Holder via email on Dec. 15, 2010 that agent Brian Terry had been wounded and died. "Tragic," responds the aide, Monty Wilkinson. "I've alerted the AG, the acting Deputy Attorney General..."

Only a few minutes later, Wilkinson emailed again, saying, "Please provide any additional details as they become available to you."

Burke then delivered another piece of bad news: "The guns found in the desert near the murder [sic] ... officer connect back to the investigation we were going to talk about they were AK-47s purchased at a Phoenix gun store."

This has been reported in other news outlets, but NPR is the place Eric "the Red" Holder chose to release the emails.

An interesting link in the article is to a letter from Holder's Justice Department to the Issa Committee.

“IF” we had a responsible media that cared about this country the whole story would be told and all those guilty of this mess would face charges. Can you imagine if Obama were a Republican President how important this story would be and how many resignations and trials would follow?

"Breuer's proposal involved coordination between the governments and didn't contemplate agents losing track of guns, as happened in the Fast and Furious debacle."

That's two lies right there!

From that letter...
II. The Need For Congressional Action
While the reforms described above are an appropriate response to Wide Receiver, Fast and Furious and the other investigations where inappropriate investigative tactics were used, they will not halt the epidemic of gun trafficking on the Southwest border.

What "other investigations"?

if it were a Republican President? You can't be surprised that the MSM is trying to hide this too, are you?

Obama's WATERGATE except in this version people died.

What was Obama doing dumping guns into Mexico? Obviously he wanted to go after the 2nd Amendment. Why does he want to hurt Americans? What else would you expect from America's first RADICAL MUSLIM PRESIDENT?

An ambush didn't kill Terry. Agent Terry was killed while performing an ambush style operation to apprehend a rip crew.

Somehow they managed to tie Fast and Furious to Bush.

Also, “In a meeting with Mexican government officials in February 2011, for instance, Breuer “suggested allowing straw purchasers cross into Mexico so [police] can arrest and [prosecutors] can convict. Such coordinated activities between the US and Mexico may send a strong message to arms traffickers.”

Hadn't Terry already been killed by this time? This “meeting with Mexican officials” looks like a way to cover their ass. With the help of friendly media.

Matter of fact this whole article looks to me as a way to confuse the uninformed. Hell, it confuses me and I've been following this pretty closely.

Operation Castaway & White Gun

And unknown other number.

Of course they can never admit the real intention, expansion of gun control because of an out of control border situation.

“this whole article looks to me as a way to confuse the uninformed”

NPR is not dumb, just lefties that play dumb. Holder release the emails and copy of letter to ISSA to NPR because they will always support their leftie friends.

The entire Fast and Furious Operation was a debacle of epic proportions. The whole operational concept was stupid and guaranteed to fail. The only outcome that should have been expected was lots of lost guns.

They dumped guns on purpose to show a need to restrict guns more.

Fast and Furious coverage/updates are overshadowed with Newt and Romney Bashing, that is what sells-bloody pugilistic battles in the ring-no rules.

Was a gift of fresh air to see Arizona's governor draw some media attention with her Tarmac Talk with the President, but then the White House said one thing, Brewer a little different-and camera angles were used in preparation of an uncomfortable meeting to keep people in the dark on this related issue as well.

Note in the President's Address he mentioned the count of illegals coming into this country across the southern border had dropped considerably in the past year; but this Administration had conveniently doctored those numbers by ordering officials not to count those sent back over the border. Small facts/stories, that are so important to understanding the whole issue. Did a tree fall in the woods? No, but a bear is conveniently ____ in those woods.

Governor Brewer has her boots firmly on the ground on this issue fighting for her people in Arizona-doing what they asked her to do. Her book did skyrocket 2,224,000 percent in the 24 hours after this confrontation. If former governor Palin who can also grab coverage anytime she snaps her fingers, should team up with Brewer on this issue "in our face"-then the American people would be kept informed, viewers would demand it.

The media goes back to Newt and Romney bashing--Newt calling Romney illegal friendly, Romney denying Newt's ad--Rubio denying the ad had credibility, Newt backs down, Michelle Malkin hot on the issue coming out calling for readers to hold your nose.. saying Romney was not for illegal immigration any more than Newt was, but they had not been much help either. So a Yellow Card was held up by those who "walk the talk" and called out "wait-a-minute" and "foul". So the media went back to Newt vs Romney bashing and vice-versa in blogs, columns and the MSM.

Now if one of the candidates [Romney or Newt] places a call to Governor Brewer at 3am and suggests a VP spot on the ticket, I will have to laugh.

Oh..were we talking about Fast and Furious? ;)

What I don’t understand is how this is not huge news, how come people aren’t being escorted to jail, or the nearest tree. Everyone I talk to has never even heard of this, and they don’t care even if I try to explain it. I feel like I’m on the crazy train, like that old black and white movie of that monster on the wing of that aircraft tearing it apart, and only that one guy saw it, and ended up shooting at it etc. If I remember correctly, he was arrested.
