Torture, Rape in Prisons Under Libya's New Government

In Libya its a case of "meet the new boss; same as the old boss."

The UN's top human rights official said Friday that Libya's transitional government must take control of its prisons and prevent further atrocities against detainees.

“There's torture, extrajudicial executions, rape of both men and women,” UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay told the Associated Press.

Pillay says she is particularly concerned about sub-Saharan African detainees whom the brigades automatically brand as fighters for the late Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi.

Pillay, who briefed the UN Security Council about Libya on Wednesday demanded action from the world community.

"Something has to be done immediately to assist the authorities for the state to take control of these detention centers," she said.

She demands action from the world community. She wants something done immediately. About the new demoncracy that the world community helped create. Does Ms. Pillay know anything at all about the way the UN works?!

By chance have you read/heard anything about US sending in more troops to Libya, say the past week +... There are some printed reports but nothing that I have seen thus far in our media.

Why don’t she deal with him, then? She’s second in line, isn’t she?

Ok Thanks, IF you come across any reports would you please post.... There was a post around the time Obama gave the state address but it was not from a familiar news agency. I have done a search and there are some hints but I am not familiar with these sites claiming we have sent 12,000 in to guard the oil fields.

Why am I not surprised. Bad news, for Obama, will simply not be reported by the MSM.

Guarding oil fields? Where are all those “no blood for oil” OWS fleabags, then?

Exactly. I did a search and there are links but I am not familiar with these websites. And as I said nothing has been reported by our Jon Stewart media... so I thought maybe you might have seen something in your news.

That is what I am trying to find out because if it is true then there has been a media black out while the Jon Stewart seeks to destroy Newt.

Hard to believe the UN could be so naive as to think Arab Spring and Islamic democracy would turn out differently than it has. Islamic mobs have Islamic values. All the strides towards women’s freedom and rights in Libya are gone forever. Arab men are free to be animals, rape, murder, steal from and brutalize whomever, whenever they get the urge.

When a revolution is run and succeeds with nothing but a ragtag national coordinating committee tenously holding together many different groups of Libyan nationals, with their own agendas for a post-Gaddafi state, and upon it’s initial success, it remains operating with responsibility simply doled out to those many groups, instead of centralized, you get the expected results from no ONE line of authority in charge.

But, from a westerners viewpoint, that is certainly not the only reason for the worst conditions in Libyan prisons; now is it?? Are not some of the conditions the kind of conditions the world has seen most every where that Muslim fighters have taken up arms; conditions that are more often the exceptions where Muslim warriers are not involved. No?

Let’s set the scorecard so we know who the players are.

Qaddhafi had hired sub-Saharan mercenaries to protect his butt. They were his personal army, though not his elite guard.

After Qaddhafi ordered his army to fire in Libyan civilians, more than half deserted and joined the provincial militias, which are equivalent to our states’ guard.

So Qaddhafi ordered out his sub-Saharan mercenaries to kill the Libyan people. They did start killing Libyans, including families of the army defectors.

The militia, which now included a good portion of Libya’s army, swung into action and attacked Qaddhafi’s forces, including the mercenaries and loyalists.

Qaddhafi’s army of chief of staff was dragged into the courtyard and got his brains blown out. The mercenaries, wherever found, were hanged from lampposts or summarily executed by provincial militias. Some were thrown into private prisons.

As background, the sub-Saharan mercenary thugs and murderers are roundly hated by the Libyan people. Quite simply, the Libyans are exacting revenge against Qaddhafi’s murderers.

In my opinion, what happened in Libya scared the bejeebbers out of the elitists around the world. Here you had an elitist, Qaddhafi, order the army to kill the people who threatened his elitist government, and the troops turned on him. Qaddhafi loyalists, including high government officials and military officers loyal to Qaddhafi, were hunted down and killed. More than 7,000 of Qaddhafi’s loyalists are in militia jails right now. Their fate is unknown.

The elitists around the world are scared sh#tless. They see themselves hanging from lampposts and gunned down where they stand. If an army won’t protect them, who will?

The UN is trying to rescue its elitist, thieving, murdering buddies. What’s happening in Libya has nothing to do with the Muslim Brotherhood or al-Qaeda. It’s pure, naked revenge against the elitists who raped Libya’s citizens, figuratively and literally, for years.

There’s more, but this post is getting too long. This is just my opinion, so take it however you see it. I’ll just add that it appears that the newly structured Libyan army is now controlled by a respected militia leader who is loyal to his country and its citizens - a patriot. We’ll see what happens.

Cheers

Different name and different players but exactly the same game. I really don’t see any difference to celebrate or congratulate.

I wouldn’t call sub-Saharan mercenaries “elitist” any more than I’d call a Hollywood superstar’s Mexican gardener “elitist”. These were people Qadaffi hired to do his dirty work, and then left holding the bag. I’d feel sorrier for them if the dirty work they were hired to do wasn’t murder, rape and oppression. But among them are also sub-Saharans who really were there just to trim someone’s hedges or even get a good butt-ramming. They are arresting and torturing all sub-Saharans, whether mercenaries or dish washers. What can I say, other than that a third-world s@#$#-hole continues to be a s@#$-hole.

” They are arresting and torturing all sub-Saharans, whether mercenaries or dish washers.”

That’s from the UN, but I always tend to disbelieve anything from those thieving, lying Marxists.

It is true, though, that the militias attacked the city of Tawerga, which was a mercenary stronghold. Libyan army recruits, led by officers loyal to Qaddhafi, got caught up in the fighting there. After the fighting got heavy, these officers deserted these poor boots. Then the officers went on a looting spree and tried to make it across the border. Many were caught by militias and summarily executed. The recruits make up some large portion of the people in jails.

The Libyan people were furious at Qaddhafi for unleashing his mercenary thugs on the people. That’s just a fact. Qaddhafi gave the order to “mow down the protesters.” He had his mercenaries mustered in Southern Libya, ready to go.

At a university in Bayda, more than 150 students were gunned down by the mercenaries.

Somehow or other, I’m sure the situation will be sorted out. For good or ill, I don’t know.

As you said: a third-world s@#$#-hole continues to be a s@#$-hole.

The UN also said this? I was just making an educated guess as to the probable reality.

“Somehow or other, I’m sure the situation will be sorted out. For good or ill, I don’t know.”

Most likely for ill.

“As you said: a third-world s@#$#-hole continues to be a s@#$-hole.”

Yes, and they could have remained one just fine without hazarding the blood, treasure and sacred honor of the United States, NATO, and the assorted European boobs who thought this was somehow good and noble, or at least said so while keeping a close eye on the oil.
