I don;t know. Assuming it did (and I expect that will happen this cycle as well, if that's what the established power brokers need to do in order to have their way), the news reporters and opinion makers are stuck, for a while, with 50 delegates on the winner's side of the tally.
Panel on This’ Weak is pretty good, including Laura Ingraham, discussing Romney smearing Newt and his inability to deal with it.
I heard that Fred Barnes admitted he heard Romney aides bragging that they “had Drudge in the bag”????? Anyone see that?
Good morning and thank you very much for the thread!
GO TEA PARTY!
Ryan foiled their desired photo op of him taking a big bite out of a cake with a big dollar sign on it. Imagine how that might have been used.
Brazielle just lied saying the Republicans have no idea for improving the economy if elected as contrasted to the Ryan interview on FNS.
How’s the cough?
If you listen to the Fox panel Newt may as well pack his bags and ride off into the sunset.
You’re in FL, so you have more insight to this than I. I remember hearing something in the last few days about Hispanics breaking for Romney (I don’t recall if it was nationwide or FL, but I think the latter). I remember hearing that Cubans don’t like to be referred to as Hispanics, but I think many lump them in the ‘category’, but I think they did in that poll. I believe that the make-up of “Hispanics” in FL is quite different than say AZ (Cubans rather than Mexicans). This article gave me a little hope for Newt. If the Cuban-Americans are getting tired of Romney’s negative ads, then hopefully, other Floridians are as well.
Cuban-American Leader: Huge Push for Newt Over Mitt
Saturday, 28 Jan 2012 04:46 PM
By David A. Patten
Carlos Perez, one of Ronald Reagan’s closest Miami advisers and a Radio Mambi talk host who is influential in Florida’s Cuban-American community, says there is growing resentment among Hispanics due to lies and distortions from GOP candidate Mitt Romney targeting former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Perez told Newsmax in an exclusive interview Saturday afternoon that a backlash is brewing against the Romney campaigns allegation that Gingrich tried to undermine former President Ronald Reagans agenda.
Perez was a close adviser to President Reagan, and Reagan even acknowledged his Cuban-American friend’s achievement during a State of the Union address.
Among Cuban-Americans, you can bet your life Newt Gingrich will win the primary election, Perez flatly predicted.
Perez, host of a popular Miami radio and television show, said Hispanic voters and especially Cuban-Americans are now backing Newt Gingrich dramatically and getting a little bit mad at the Romney campaign.
Perez endorsed Gingrichs presidential bid on Monday. On Saturday, he told Newsmax that the buzz in the Cuban-American community has turned strongly pro-Gingrich.
I have not seen one Republican candidate in the last 20 or 30 years that has the knowledge, the experience, the ability, and the great ideas that Gingrich has, not only with respect to Cuba, but with respect to other situations, Perez said. I feel there is going to be a tremendous reaction in favor of Gingrich among the Hispanic and the Cuban voters here in South Florida.”
Perez says that Cuban-Americans have been impressed by the fact that Gingrich has vowed to back a “Cuban Spring” — promising to back an overthrow of the Castro regime.
Gingrich said this week that as president he “will not tolerate” the continuation of the Castro regime and will back a democratic uprising in Cuba, much like the one Reagan backed in Poland under communist rule.
Gingrich’s pro-democracy comments for Cuba are the strongest of any presidential candidate since President Reagan, Perez told Newsmax.
Cuban-Americans have lauded Reagan’s strong support for pro-democracy movements throughout the Caribbean and Central and South America.
Perez said Cuban-Americans are extremely concerned that Romney has tried to distort the historical record.
Newt Gingrich without any question follows those ideas, Perez told Newsmax. And it is a shame that Romneys attack is trying to distort that. That is not nice, that is not fair. It is creating a backlash among Cuban-American and other Hispanic voters here in South Florida.
Gingrichs effort to win over Cuban-Americans in the waning days of the campaign in Florida have been bolstered by the former Rep. Dan Burtons presence with him on the campaign trail.
The Indiana Republican is revered in Cuban-American circles for co-sponsoring the Helms-Burton Act, which bolstered international sanctions against the Castro government.
In 1996, as part of a crackdown against the Castro regime, former President Bill Clinton signed the Helms-Burton Act into law.
Hes an extremely popular man among Cuban-Americans, Perez said of Burton, because hes a co-author, along with Sen. Jessie Helms, of the Helms-Burton law that is one of the best laws that has been implemented in the U.S. Congress against Fidel Castro.
Perez said that the buzz in the Cuban-American community has turned strongly pro-Gingrich.
He added that Cuban-Americans are skeptical of the pro-democracy pledges made by the other candidates during the GOP debate in Jacksonville.
Cubans have been, lets say, vaccinated by all the politicians who come here during elections and make empty promises, Perez told Newsmax. For 50 years, weve been hearing the same thing.
But who is the true person who could really make some basic changes concerning the situation in Cuba? Thats Newt Gingrich. He has the ability, the personality, to solve problems, and he is a man of great intelligence, he said.
I saw that.
What's up with that???
We have evolved from Michele Bachmann stating she will sign away 0bama care on her first day in office if elected to "My care is better than your care" under Romney????
What is wrong with people?
If the race for Fla. was decided on last nights speech Newt would win in a heartbeat.Axelrod just on NBC just stated that Mitt is outspending Newt 5:1 in Fla. If that’s true its really uphill for Newt.
Bondi’s remarks about healthcare — when you hear it you’re going to want to tear your hair out in clumps. How anyone can vote for Romney with that kind of info out there, is beyond me. It’s like being in a stable while they’re hosing it down, and ordering the tossed salad. Romney has nothing but crap on the menu.
Their gloating over the huge win going away in FL was pretty hard to take.
Pray for America
The real good news, Newt Gingrich does know what he’s up against, and explains the differences using specific examples. Romney doesn’t even want to say Socialist.
August 19, 2008
Obama: McCain ‘doesn’t know what he’s up against’
Rush from August 19, 2008, must be just before McCain suspended his campaign...
Patriotism Has Obama Unglued
This is slimeball politics at its finest. When you have $100 million to spend destroying people you don’t have to talk about your record.
Newt stuck it to everyone on the left and right who had blasted him about going to the moon and creating a base instead of giving the moon to the Chinese which is what would happen. It’s not as far fetched as you think once you figure out that private money could be used instead of govt. funds.
I wish I could have strangled McCain, but Fred Thompson didn’t cede any ground to him.
Like Romney, McCain has no principles and no moral compass. (Duh).
It’s as though Romney’s attack ads against him in ‘08 meant nothing! He even claimed that Romney was on his short list for VP. Nonsense!
It really galled me when McCain changed the subject instead of addressing Sarah Palin’s column and excellent point that Romney will lose all the TEA Party, grassroots work and enthusiasm with his dirty politics.
Interesting also, that McCain said there’s been too many debates and that debates are responsible for the blood-letting, when in fact, it’s Romney’s attack ads!
Thompson said Romney has spent $16 Million against Gingrich in attack ads in Florida! OUTRGEOUS!
Wahn stating that Romney’s favorables dropping as Obama’s going up.
Of course that will change if Newt ever turns loose on him.
I don’t get Fox News Sunday until the top of the hour.
I am stuck watching MTP.
My cough is vastly and greating improved, thanks to wonderful you!!!
“Bondis remarks about healthcare when you hear it youre going to want to tear your hair out in clumps. How anyone can vote for Romney with that kind of info out there, is beyond me. Dang! We need that FNC clip!
Great summary...good post.
I despise Faux News. It comes on here next. Watching Meet The Press.
I am TIVOing This Week next, also. I might watch This Week next, and save Faux for later.
Aw gawrsh (blushing)
It’s my duty ma’am.
“I heard that Fred Barnes admitted he heard Romney aides bragging that they had Drudge in the bag????? Anyone see that?”
I didn’t hear that, but some FReepers have removed Drudge from their bookmarks and as their homepage. Lots of negative articles on Newt & none on Mitt. There are a couple of threads on FR about Drudge - this one is informative (I added a little more info in my post #59). Apparently, Mitt’s campaign has been working with Drudge since 2005 (the Drudge-Romney axis):

BTW - Newt said he’ll go all the way to the convention & take Romney on state by state:
I agree with you on politics being all about money and power but I’m not convinced on term limits
I would hate to see Paul Ryan not being able to run and lead the House Budget Committee, or a Marco Rubio not in the Senate holding those jerks feet to the fire.
What we really need is more secretaries of state who will insure honest elections and state legislatures that will reverse the gerrymandering that’s gone on so long. We also need more conservative parents running for school boards to counter the liberal unions and demand an end to children’s brainwashing.
Great write up Bray!
substantive and articulate....( but then, that is what we are now used to coming from you!)
Thanks for taking the time and thanks Ab for your dedication to the Sun AM circus reviews!
Which Fox News program? There are always the highlighted interviews available at their site.
You can get the gist of it here with a transcript of Bondi’s remarks to Greta. Bondi’s a scoundrel and so is her master.
I meant “greatly” improved. This is a terrible, cold. Still have chills. I am not suited for cold weather. Give me sunshine 365, 24/7!
FNS “On the Trail” segment nothing more than a pro Romney ad. Sickening.
It almost seems like Mitt is paving the way to endorsements and favorable media coverage from what we all used to think of as “independent” sources...with his vast personal wealth.
I mean how else would you explain how Drudge is carrying the water for him and staunch Conservatives like Marco Rubio endorsing him unless he was dropping large amounts of $$$$ into their websites and campaign coffers.
Which FNC program was Pam Bondi on this morning?
Give me sunshine 365, 24/7!
I'm all over that. I don't care if it is cold and snow on the ground, as long as it's sunny. Too often in Maine it's grey, 35 degrees and raining on the snow...ugh. depressing.
Attorney General Pam Bondi will appear on Fox News Fox & Friends tomorrow (Sunday) at 9:15am-ET. Be sure to tune in!
Fox and Friends Weekend - Fox News Channel - Fox News
FOX & Friends Weekend on FOX News Channel. Watch Alisyn Camerota, Dave Briggs, and Clayton Morris on Weekends from 6AM to 10AM ET as they report on famous faces, health, heroes, legal issues and news you can use.
She has made guest appearances on Scarborough Country with Joe Scarborough and various other cable news programming on MSNBC and worked for Fox News as a legal analyst.
PS: You may well have the flu.
Gingrich great on “ This Week....”!
AHHHMANpoor not there...there is a God!
1. So let me get this straight, Romney’s big plus right now is money, he’s able to essentially buy votes.
Well that won’t fly with Obama. Romney will be outspent 3 to 1 (at least).
2. As far as Romney’s ‘great’ debate performance, it was all about attacking the other guy.
Once again, Romney can’t hold a candle to Obama when it comes to dirty politics. His head will spin with negative attacks.
3.Finally, Romney has the press and Establishment Republicans on his side in FL.
Say goodbye Mitt. Republicans are useless in a national campaign and and we all know where the press stands.
Hey, here in FLA we’ve got some kind of crud going around..I have been spared (thank God) so far.
I wrote it down. She was on “America’s News Headquarters”
Thanks Ex-hippie. It will be interesting to see what Rush has to say tomorrow. Will he be on the Mitt wagon or will he be ready to say who he will be voting for?
Friday’s dig at the woman begging him to endorse Newt was disgusting. “Oh look, I got a text from my brother saying he would vote for Rick.”
Either his brother is willing to throw his vote away to stay out of the real decision or they think this election is a big joke.
These primaries are revealing a lot of who really is and who isn’t for the establishment in DC. After all, both Limbaughs have theirs, why should they care about the rest of us?
Pray for America
12 years in the House (6 terms)
12 years in the Senate (2 terms)
Sit out 3 terms (6 years) in the House and 1 term (6 years) to regain eligibility those respective branches of Congress.
Even George McGovern admitted he learned a lot from his “forced’ experience in private industry. He said if he had to do his political career over again he would not have been so enthusiastic about some of the regulatory programs he backed.
Looks like there may be some poling that shows class warfare may be the way to go instead of racebaiting.
The dems have done their best to destroy the economy. Now that they have nearly achieved their goal they will claim that the real villains are those who made it great to begin with, people with a few bucks in their pocket.
Its a huge leap but done in the fashion that Mitt Romney has your money in his pocket it must be polling well.
It's the same ol' same ol' create a lie/class warfare is all the fault of the evil rich, repeat it and all of a sudden its true.
Axeldork starts out with dnc Dave by asking about using class warfare.axel says it's not war on the rich but balancetalk about creative Marxism--doesn't get much better.
THan DNC Dave gets into economic fairness of the tax system,is it fair for Romney to only pay 15%--totally ignoring the first 35% he paid on ordinary income just like anyone else. Axel knows they can get away with the distortion since they have a direct quote from Mitt who really screwed the pooch.
This(I only pay 14% comment by Romney) is basically Romney's fault for falling into the trap in a debate some time ago when he stated he paid 14 or 15% on income instead of pointing out the first 35% what a putz.
Axel then brings up Swiss bank a/c's,Caymans, Bermuda "we have needs", no matter how hard the bent axel tries he can't leave out his socialistic dogma from being mentioned! Just priceless.
axel states they made two trillion in cuts which is so much BS. Its really 200 million per year in a budget with a 1.6 trillion dollar deficit and those cuts are probably not real. These guys twist stats like no one else has ever done.
The middle class is shrinking while the rich get richer than back to Bain Capital how Romney singlehandedly closed 1,000 plants looting them on and Mass. 47th in job creation under Mitt,LBO's,we doubled renewable energy(yeah from 1-2%)unbelievable! Romney the flip flopper and the a big one that happened real quick.
Near the end of axels time DNC dave showed a poll by NBC that only 15% of voters felt they were better off than before the regime. He showed it and than never followed up. Quite the slick trick. Now nbc can claim they are fair and balanced for showing the poll even thought they never followed up with even a single question. This is how the big boys play the game.
All in all Axel thinks they can beat Romney based on class warfare and if obamcare comes up its a now win for Mitt so even though they have absolutely nothing to run on but more hope and change they think they can win and current polling seems to agree.
Hard to fathom.
He’s definitely using a lot of long green to influence how things are going in the primaries IMHO.
If we’re unlucky enough to have him as our nominee I think he can even the spending gap with personal money and family money.
I haven’t been impressed with a debate performance form him yet. Anyone that has to be drug kicking and screaming to the right...kicked in the pants to talk like a Conservative isn’t what we need representing us against Obama.
I’m still holding out hope that when the dust settles Santorum will be left standing.
Yes, you do. She came on as a guest of Clayton/Allison/Dave on Fox, presumably so they could follow up with the stir she created Thursday with Greta. They asked her what was the difference between "federally-mandated" health care and "state-mandated" health care, but she tried to avoid the question. You could tell she'd been given her talking points, which was to rant and rave about how we MUST stop ObamaCare.
The hosts kept pressing her -- even interrupting her blabbing -- but she kept repeating that meme. FINALLY, after at least 3 or 4 different interruptions by the hosts to repeat their question, she attempted to answer:
(..pause..) (stutter...) "Well,... (pause)... that's what states are supposed to DO!"
She mumbled ONE more very short sentence, then immediately went back to her mantra.
Two sentences. That's all she could/would say to the question, "What's the difference?"
You guys MUST find that clip and spread it far and wide!
I wonder if you're not on to comething. All week there's been breaking news: ROMNEY UP BY 100% OVER NEWT they shout, with great glee.
Today, first thing on MTP, Romney's up over 15% over Newt. Can this possibly be? I'm not surprised that Romney might be up a little over Newt, but with each passing day it seems to climb higher. I'm not convinced that those Florida voters are as far off from SC voters.
Here's hoping that the FL voters go out and vote and not be discouraged by the hype, let's hope they leave no hanging chads, let's hope they vote their preference as opposed to the media, let's hope those old folks in Florida know that Romney is the inventor of Romneycare.
As always, in the end, we shall see.
Agreed, anyone who missed Newts speech last night really missed a tremendous Reaganesque message.Truly brilliant.
How exactly is voting for Santorum throwing away a vote?
And both Geithner and Hillary are done at the end of this term, seemingly part of the staff that is less radical socialist elitist left. And Geithner, about the last of the original Democrat Economist. This is a big clue as to what they think, but anywhere on the Sunday shows?
Tim Geithner won’t seek second term as Obama’s Treasury Secretary
Hillary Clinton ‘ready for a rest’
