Gingrich campaign to traveling press: Find your own damn ride

ORLANDO, Fla.--It's total newt-iny on the Gingrich campaign press bus.

For each caucus or primary during the 2012 presidential campaign, Gingrich's campaign has organized transportation for the reporters assigned to cover him--as is customary for nearly every presidential candidate.

[snip]

That working relationship pretty much stopped working this weekend, two days before the Florida primary.

The trouble began when Daniel Malloy, a reporter for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, started to do some simple math,

[another snip]

Sitting in the back of the bus that day, the penny pinching press got to thinking:

[yet another snip]

One by one, the reporters signaled that they would not join the former speaker on his plane.

[yet again another snip]

And because fewer journalists would be on the plane, the cost per seat skyrocketed to more than $3,000.

[even yet again another snip]

The reporters on the bus, now saddled with an unexpected new cost, fumed. Campaign aides were furious over the little mutiny. Reporters threatened to dispute the charges to their credit cards.

Then, the campaign dropped a bomb: No reporters would be allowed to fly with Gingrich on his campaign swing on Monday,

A page taken from Sarah Palin’s book when she had her bus tour this summer! She wouldn’t give them a schedule of her stops and they went bananas. I love it.

Maybe Newt should have strapped them on to the roof of the plane and taken off!

Where did someone in the campaign say “damn”?

Oh...they didn’t. That was just thrown in there by the asshat who wrote the snit-piece.

Even as recently as Viet Nam, we had many in the press corps which didn't loathe this country.

There was some little embedded reporter twit from Reuters during the Iraq War who, when asked, why he focused on stories which showed the American military at their worst retorted "My job is to cover the facts on the ground, not write PR for the Bush Administration."

If I'd been in charge of the unit where he was embedded, I would have given him the Coach Wooden treatment and told him something like this:

We admire someone who stands up for what he believes and we're going to miss having you accompany us. But our men are doing a dangerous enough job as it is and we simply do not have resources to spare protecting somebody who is more devoted to his own agenda than the dangerous mission our men are being asked to accomplish. Good luck with arranging your own transportation. I suggest you mark you press vehicle very distinctly and we will do our best not to hit you in the crossfire.

“Reminds me of something Reagan would do.”

Very similar to Ronaldus Magnus shouting at an interrupting reporter, “I’ll have you know I PAID FOR THIS MICROPHONE!”

I love it. They’ve all been working hard to screw him in the Florida election, and then they suddenly started making trouble about having to pay expenses for the press seats.

Let them walk.

Nor should the pols fraternize with the press. No appearances at the National Press Club dinners, no parties on the lawn for the media, no appearances on Letterman or the others, and so on.

And let them conduct their interviews by video link. Force the media back into its role; they’ve become too used to their welfare at the hands of presidents. Free food, booze, rides, photo ops...

He KNOWS they’ll NEVER like him, and he’s treating them that way.

Not insulting them, mind you, simply being REALISTIC.

I LIKE HIM MORE AND MORE AND MORE....!

This honesty is amazing and REFRESHING...! I’m so proud and reassured.

Since when do reporters,, on assignment, in an election year worry so deeply about what it costs their boss? Also,,, it’s almost like they don’t realize how easily the message can get out in the internet era.
The soundbite of the reporter,, in the actual location, is meaningless.
It actually focuses the attention on Newts true message that day, because thats all they are left with.

And as the pool reporters stamp their feet and save their employers money (lol) Some eager LOCAL reporters in each location get a chance of a lifetime to report on Newt events,,unimpeded.

Now Newt can get a much smaller plane for his essential staff only and look more like a penny-pincher.

Might actually be a good move and save his campaign some cash...:^)

This is a joke.

The press are using the fig leaf of "cost" as an excuse to avoid covering his campaign in FL which helps Romney despite the clear newsworthiness of the campaign.

They are morally and ethically bankrupt rat bastards.

Let's get serious. Did they ever not follow Obama? Gore? Clinton?

This is just one more reason to wish Newt pulls out a FL victory. The flatfooted press will go into a meltdown panic.
