Newt Gingrich [w/ Michael Reagan] tells Jacksonville crowd he's closing the gap against Romney

More than 100 people rallied behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in downtown Jacksonville this morning as he promised he is closing the gap on rival Mitt Romney in Florida's Republican primary, despite polls showing otherwise.

Gingrich appeared in a conference room at the Hyatt with his wife and Ronald Reagan's eldest son, Michael, for a 20-minute speech before leaving about 9:30 a.m. for other parts of the state. It was Gingrich's first public appearance Monday, a day before the primary.

"I think we can run a campaign that creates a dramatic choice and that enables us to win a decisive victory for America," Gingrich said. "I think it can be an intelligent campaign that offers real alternatives that has real solutions for America's future."

The rally began with the Pledge given by city councilman Ray Holt. Reagan then spoke for about five minutes.

"I think I owe it to him for what he's done for the Republican Party over the years," Reagan said before introducing Gingrich. "He has done more to elect Republicans to office in this country than any other person on this planet."

Gingrich spoke about what he called the dishonesty of Mitt Romney's ad campaign. He criticized Romney for questioning Gingrich's relationship with Ronald Reagan.

"I figure if his son would campaign with me...that should settle this once and for all," Gingrich said.

Gingrich insisted that nominating Romney would guarantee a loss for Republicans against Obama.

"Every time we nominate a moderate, we lose," Gingrich said. "Why would anybody in the establishment think a Massachusetts moderate, which is a liberal by Republican standards...why would they think he's going to be able to debate Barack Obama?"

The endorsement from Michael Reagan certainly carries more weight than if it were from the other alleged 'son' of the famous 40th President, aka Ronnie 'Twinkle Toes' Reagan (name struck thru as Ronnie-baby isn't worthy to carry that great name ;).

Attention Floridians! Don't let the GOP-elites choose your nominee for you, and IGNORE the polls: VOTE FOR NEWT as if your life depended on it, because it DOES!

That’s what I think. He then needs to outline what a disaster it is. Let Romney spend his time defending Romneycare the precursor to Obamacare!

Herman Cain is all over the morning shows, and he is looking really good, and coming on STRONG for Newt. This might help a lot with voters making their decision today and tomorrow.

I am in Florida. I just put my big yard signs out for Newt. Will be phone banking for the next two days and voting for Newt tomorrow. If my cat could vote, I would take her too! WHOOHOO!

“despite polls showing otherwise. “

Establishment media lie. The two latest polls out of Florida show that Newt IS closing the gap.

A lot of folks have voted already, and I know a lot of homeschoolers are voting Santorum. If Santorum drops out, those votes will got to Newt, but of course that’s too late for FL.

In fact, the ballots here all still have Cain, Bachman, and Huntsman on them.

For those in the Tampa area, they already know the lib newspapers are in the tank for Newt. The big headline the other day was about Romney being ahead of Newt.

I have an Idea: Newt is short of funds for advertising? So...

Why not have TV/computers, etc., at every event, and programed the way museums do with Self Tours. Only, put every thing Romney has said and now the new on by SOROS (saying Romney and Obama are the same). Every lie, every misinformation Romney has said..

Give the crowd earphones and let them click away on whatever video they choose. Of course have guards there to protect the equipment. Maybe set up inside a bus.

"I think we can run a campaign that creates a dramatic choice and that enables us to win a decisive victory for America," Gingrich said. "I think it can be an intelligent campaign that offers real alternatives that has real solutions for America's future."

Which is exactly why Romney would lose. His only differences with Obama translate into negatives.

I would just like to say to these “values” voters — BELIEVE ME — Liberals KNOW ALL ABOUT your values. They KNOW that you are pro-life. They know you are pro-family. You don’t have to “tell” them you are pro-life by voting for Santorum ...

They know it, and in spite of it, they will continue to fight you on it. And by voting for Santorum ...you’re OUT of the fight!! Do you get that?? Rick will be out, Newt will be weakened, and YOUR causes ...well, all we’re going to hear is how “those issues don’t matter ...”

THAT is what THIS vote is going to do ...mark my words. It’s a PRIMARY vote — not a vote for the president.

THINK, people .. .your vote is going to result in a WEAKENING of your positions.

Michael Reagan introduced Cain, who introduced Newt, before you started watching. And Mike spoke up BIGTIME about Newt’s Reaganism back in the 80s and 90s.
