Panicked GOP insiders land in bizarro world
Washington Times ^ | Jan 30, 2012 | By Dr. Milton R. Wolf

Posted on 01/30/2012 5:15:21 PM PST by Jim Robinson

The 2012 Republican primary race has passed well beyond the rabbit hole into some extra-dimensional bizarro world where up is down, black is white and the allies of the candidate who disavowed Reaganism would have us believe that the leader of the “second stage of the Reagan Revolution” is somehow insufficiently Reaganesque.

It’s no secret that the GOP establishment backs Mitt Romney. The same folks who gave us John McCain and Bob Dole have picked their winner. When Mr. Romney is down, their panic shows. They start floating desperate ideas like late-entry candidates or a brokered convention. They also pull out the long knives for Newt Gingrich. After the former speaker’s decisive victory in South Carolina, insiders launched an all-out assault upon him. Unmasked and panicked, the GOP establishment unleashed the tactics of the left upon the right.

GOP insiders first dredged up 2-decade-old debunked partisan ethics charges that damaged Mr. Gingrich’s reputation until the Internal Revenue Service finally exonerated him. Mr. Romney couldn’t resist seeking cheap points by joining the discredited Democrats who started the whole sordid mess. Mr. Romney featured, of all people, Nancy Pelosi with her innuendo of Mr. Gingrich’s supposed wrongdoing, ironically blasting out an email slur just as Mrs. Pelosi was backing away from it. Then came something even worse: the salacious insinuation that Mr. Gingrich somehow betrayed former President Ronald Reagan.

The anti-Gingrich onslaught reached an apogee on the Drudge Report as Romney allies fed one negative story after another, amassing an impressive 10 pieces on the influential website at one point. A screaming headline claimed that Mr. Gingrich had repeatedly insulted Reagan. The unseemly issue of Mr. Gingrich’s second marriage managed to resurface. To cap it off, Ann Coulter, the surprising new head cheerleader for the moderate movement, enjoyed seeing her latest anti-Gingrich...

"Unfounded charges that Mr. Gingrich, a man who was once criticized for being a “Reagan Robot,” insulted the Gipper barely pass the laugh test and definitely didn’t pass the Nancy Reagan test in 1995. Video of the former first lady honoring the speaker quickly surfaced: “Barry Goldwater handed the torch to Ronnie, and in turn Ronnie turned that torch over to Newt and the Republican members of Congress to keep that dream alive.” Today, it is the GOP insiders who are the ones trying to extinguish the Reagan dream."

Heard today that McCain called for cessation of debates....that we have heard enough.....nothing more to learn from the candidates. In otherwords, Romney is on top and the rest of us can pound sand. I have never seen this side of the republican party.....and especially from the man who lost to obama, and to the other candidate who lost to him. Why would we expect romney, who lost to McCain, to do even as well as McCain himself. Yet here we are...moving left...alway leftward.....never recalibrated to the right. Why a crying shame.

It's an astounding game of perception that's underway, by those folks who sell "inevitability." And that's a perception that does not have to last forever. It only has to last through the latter Primaries.

Wow, this primary is getting schizophrenic...for every article I read lauding Newt, I see another (like the one in the same issue of the Washington Times by the editor Tyrell) that slings more mud Newt’s way.

Weird...

GO NEWT!
GO FREE REPUBLIC!!!
Newt Gingrich @ The Villages in Florida Sunday January 29 2012
In 1980 we were involved in a campaign like this and it was clear that we needed a conservative that was a long way from Jimmy Carter in order to win because you had to show the difference.
And I would argue, we tried a moderate in 1996 and we couldn’t show the difference.
We tried a moderate in 2008 and we couldn’t show the difference.
If we are going to beat Obama, he’s going to have a Billion dollars and almost all of it will be used negatively because he doesn’t have any posistive record to run on.
So he’s gone from yes-we-can to why-we-couldn’t as his theme. So we need to have someone that can show a sharp distinction.
ObamaCare and RomneyCare are about this far apart (shows about one inch.) you can’t make the difference.
Where we are as Conservatives is about this far apart. Obama will not be able to hide from the difference...

Keep writing Jim Robinson. You are making a difference.

On top of everything else, we now are finding out who the real conservatives are and those that are phonies. The 'proof is in the pudding' like Grandma used to say. If the establishment succeeds in defeating Newt Gingich then let them be damned. They can then obey Hussein.

Rick Santorum is making a difference but, unfortunately it is the wrong difference. We will soon be learning if he is one of us or not. He needs to swallow defeat and join the Tea Party Patriots that are trying to restore this once great nation.

GO NEWT!

Gingrich Launches TalesofMitt.com

###

From today’s Morning Score:

Newt 2012 has launched a new website “to document all of Mitt Romney’s flip flops and new stories trying to explain his liberal record.” There are two new web videos up on the page: “Which Mitt Is It?” and “Mitt’s Blind Trust Bluff.” Gingrich spokesman RC Hammond goes on the attack in a forthcoming press release announcing the site:

“Of course, the issue really isn’t the correct understanding of blind trusts, despite Romney’s convenient interpretations. It’s whether voters can trust Mitt Romney. And as we’ve seen in 1994, 2002, 2008, and 2012, Mitt Romney will say anything and change any position just to get elected.” Check out TalesofMitt.com: http://bit.ly/x4umCN.

Ode to the Grand Olde Party, and their BFF, the Obamanator.

When Newt or Paul rocks the Establishment Boat,

The hacking and slashing puts extreme fighting to shame,
Never, no NEVER rock the Establishment Boat!

Hello houeto...I don’t think Santorum’s going to yield until NEwt’s people ask him to, and then I’m not so sure he will...he’s already moving forward...as Bella’s out of the danger zone now...he’s off to his campaign.

If and when he does yield hopefully it will be when it matters the greatest he does so..meanwhile Ron Paul continues to cover Romneys flank.

Drudge just posted a most unflattering photo of Gingrich on the front page. This is all so incredibly underhanded and deliberate. Because they know so many women will vote for a candidate based solely upon appearances. That’s the way women are wired, no matter how much they protest to the contrary. It’s what gave America Obama. The female vote. Oooh they thought he was sooooooo cute. Like they think Romney is very presidential looking. It’s all they really care about. Women don’t vote issues or philosophy. They vote appearance.

First order of business... Newt asks England to return the Bust of Churchill back to the White House as a gesture of solidarity to our long standing ally, England.

President Bush accepts a bust of Sir Winston Churchill from ambassador of England, Sir Christopher Meyer July 16, 2001. "He was a man of great courage. He knew what he believed. And he really kind of went after it in a way that seemed like a Texan to me," said the President explaining why he would like the likeness of an Englishman placed inside the Oval Offfice. "He charged ahead, and the world is better for it.".
