~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland

Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), the Army's oldest active proving ground, is one of the world's foremost research, development, testing, and training facilities for military weapons and equipment. It is bounded by the Susquehanna and Gunpowder Rivers, the Chesapeake Bay, and the AMTRAK Railroad.

The Installation occupies more than 72,500 acres in Harford County. Notable for its convergence of talents and abilities, APG encompasses more than 60 different tenant activities representing every facet of technology.

Aberdeen Proving Ground is home to 9 major commands and supports 70 tenants, 20 satellite and 17 private activities.  The installation provides facilities to perform research, development, testing and evaluation of Army materiel. Facilities include laboratories for research investigations, state-of-the-art ranges, engineering test courses for wheeled and tracked vehicles and a wide variety of research.

The installation also supports a wide variety of training, including mechanical maintenance, health promotion and preventive medicine, chemical and biological defense, and chemical casualty care, chemical demilitarization.  APG also is host National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve operations and training.

APG’s facilities include nearly 15 million square feet of building space in more than 2,000 buildings (including offices, administrative and training facilities, and warehouses, barracks and family housing). There are more than 40 miles of track, nearly 200 firing positions, 8 medical research laboratories, 10 chemical laboratories, 2 physics laboratories, 5 human engineering laboratories, a materials research laboratory as well as Phillips Army Airfield and Weide Army Aviation Support Facility.

Learn More About Aberdeen Proving Ground HERE!

The United States Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, has one of the world's leading collections of military ordnance, ranging from small arms to 240 large armored vehicles, tanks and artillery pieces, some of the last survivors of their type.

The United States Army Ordnance Museum was established in 1919 to exhibit and preserve captured enemy materiel, and also certain United States ordnance materiel which had been shipped to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., for testing purposes. This exhibit served as a reservoir of information for the systematic study of various types of equipment which is always an important part of the program in the design of new weapons.

The Prince Of Peace

January 31, 2012

Years ago I came to know a young man who rode with a motorcycle gang. He had grown up on a mission field where his parents served. When his family returned to the US, he seemed unable to adjust to life. He lived a troubled existence and was killed in a street fight with a rival gang.

I’ve helped at many funeral services, but this was by far the most memorable. It was held in a park where there is a natural grassy bowl surrounding a small lake. His friends parked their bikes in a circle and sat on the grass around a friend and me while we conducted the service. We spoke simply and briefly about peace among warring factions and the inner peace that Jesus’ love can bring.

Afterward, a motorcycle gang member thanked us, started to walk away, but then turned back. I’ve never forgotten his words. He said that he had “a putt, a pad, and an old lady” (a bike, apartment, and girlfriend), and then added, “But I ain’t got no peace.” So we talked about Jesus who is our peace.

Whether we’ve got a chopper or a Cadillac, a mansion or a tiny apartment, a loved one or no one—it makes no difference. Without Jesus, there is no peace. He said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you” (John 14:27). This gift is for all who trust in Him. Have you asked for His peace?

Lord, I want to have peace in my life.
To be at peace with You, with others, and with myself.
Your Word says that comes from You.
Please give me Your gift of peace. Amen.

Jesus died in our place to give us His peace.

Read: John 14:25-31

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. —John 14:27

Technically, the term “AMTRAK railroad” is a bit too loose. It should be referred to as “Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (ex-Pennsylvania RR)”.

Thanks Kathy. You keep following me around! During my work career, I have been at Aberdeen, WSMR, Kirtland AFB, Ft. Bliss, China Lake and I was born at Davis Monthan AFB. Once you have Redstone Arsenal and Arnold AFS, that will be it. Thank you so much for your efforts reminding us how great our beloved county is! I attended a speech by LTG Gerald Boykin (USA Ret.) last night. He stressed that if we don’t stand up and fight for our American Heritage, we are going to lose it. Thank you so much for reminding us about our true National Heroes.

Good evening, wjcsux...((HUGS))...I’m late tonight. Several parental issues needed attention, including my Dad running out of his blood pressure medication and he didn’t tell me he was low. Something new to add to my “monitor” list.

I’m glad you are enjoying our road trips.

Sounds like a great speech.
