Fitchburg woman and daughter 'terrified' as saw rips down door after getting wrong address

FITCHBURG -- It was a horror movie come to life.

Judy Sanchez woke Thursday to the sound of heavy footsteps in her stairwell, followed by a loud motor. She got to her kitchen in time to see the blade of a chain saw rip through her front door.

"It was so crazy," Judy Sanchez said. "I was terrified."

Jan. 26 was the day of Operation Red Wolf, a multiagency sweep during which 16 people in Fitchburg were arrested on charges related to gang activity, drug trafficking and illegal gun sales after a two-year investigation by federal, state and local law-enforcement officers.

The people sawing through her door were FBI agents, looking for a gang member suspected of trafficking cocaine. But they went to the wrong address.

Sanchez said the ordeal traumatized her and her 3-year-old daughter, Ji'anni, and she is unsatisfied with the agency's response to the error.

About 10 FBI agents came into her apartment at 391 Elm St., that morning, guns drawn and pointed at her. There was no knock, and they didn't shout that they were from the FBI until after the saw was buzzing through her six-panel front door, she said.

Once again, the Stasi can't be bothered to double-check an address before they raid an apartment looking for drugs. If there is anything more dangerous than incompetent government officials; it's incompetent government officials with guns and CHAINSAWS!

There is a Fitchburg in Wisconsin, but I don’t recognise the name of the newspaper.

Apparently there were two apartments on the floor, one marked F for front and the other R for rear. The man the FBI wanted was in the other apartment which apparently wasn’t even being covered while Sanchez’ apartment was being sawed into.

She probably stands a fair chance of recovering damages, but it will be difficult.

It's so easy to use GoogleEarth to take a good look at any address before making a raid.

Mistakes like this arise out of two problems ~ the agent leading the raid has no idea how to verify an address on the USPS.com site, or how to case the area using GoogleEarth.

Much of this arises out of their misperception that using these tools will somehow violate the 4th Amendment by not getting an administrative warrant (at least) to look at the standard data bases.

The lady will get a new door out of this.

I have never seen a chainsaw used to serve a warrant. I wouldn’t think it would be safe, not to mention ineffective if you came upon an armored door. What ever happened to having the biggest guy in your team hit it with a battering ram?

In this case it was at the same building, but the other apartment of the two that shared the floor.

I keep wondering, why not have a harmless looking person like a mailman or a Jehovah’s Witness knock on the door and get the occupant to open it — THEN the police spring?

Hmm.. If I woke up to a chainsaw coming through my door, there’d probably be lead going back through it.

Dang, I would be dead, cause I would empty half a clip of my M1A through the door. I just kinda assume that Police are supposed to knock and serve a warrent.

I just am not used to the new Nazi Amerika...

Note to self, buy a bullet proof, steel reinforced door to teach Nazi’s to knock.

The chainsaw adds a nice south of the border Narco touch to the entry (terror effect).

Good chance I’d have emptied a .357 into the proximity of the chainsaw without checking to see who’s on the other side.
Wonder how that would have worked out?
