A 6-year-old Whittier Elementary student got the surprise of her young life Friday as she was telling her classmates what she wanted the most for her birthday -- her father back home.
Just as she was doing show-and-tell in class, Bailey Page's father, Sgt. Adam Page, walked in to surprise her after coming back from his Afghanistan deployment.

I have even heard one reporter exclaim that the war in Afghanistan was OVER.
tissue time
I noticed the soldier’s wife standing behind with cupcakes for the rest kids. Michelle Obama would disapprove.
Oh, the humanity!
Thanks for posting, these reunions never get old.
‘zackly.
Great stories.
God bless our military! I’m not sure the population at large is worthy of their brave and selfless sacrifices. But I try to work to make America a place that is more worthy, both of these people and also of the sacrifices of our ancestors.

“I have even heard one reporter exclaim that the war in Afghanistan was OVER.”
If you recall who that “reporter” is, I’d really like to know.
It would be wonderful news to my Marine son, who’s currently over there, working daily with his black lab to detect IEDs.
I’d love to set the record straight...
My wish is that he is always able to come home safely to his little girl.
God bless him, and you.
please thank your son for his service for me please.
I have labs too. An almost 11 year old black and a 7 year old yellow.
My almost 11 year old has a pup ( gulp, now 8 yo ) who is an explosive sniffing dog working in NYC and another dog that I bred (sire to the 8 yo mentioned above ) is also an explosive sniffing dog working in NYC.
Agree! I can spend the whole night watching them on YouTube.
What simple beauty.
No, would go through too much Kleenex. :)
Thank you so much, EV.
“I have labs too.”
For the first time in 25 years, we were without a dog earlier this year. Our two adopted shelter dogs had both succumbed to age and cancer within a year of each other.
We couldn’t stand it anymore, so we adopted another shelter pup, a 4 month old shepherd / yellow lab mix. She came with some baggage, obviously having been mistreated in the past, but she’s getting much better with strangers these days.
A smart dog, and a sweetheart as well. Life is good again.
