(CNSNews.com) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Planned Parenthood’s relationship with the Girl Scouts of America is “very valuable,” Wednesday, at a congressional reception to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the organization for young girls.

Rep. Pelosi was featured at the reception with a group of female government leaders to promote the Girl Scout’s new initiative “To Get Her There,” which seeks to create “gender balanced leadership” in one generation.

After the event CNSNews.com asked Pelosi: “The Girl Scouts has had some ties to Planned Parenthood, do you think that’s a valuable relationship to have working together?”

“The Girl Scouts have relationships with many organizations,” Rep. Pelosi replied.

“And, yes, I think they are all very valuable.”

The Girl Scouts have been linked to the nation’s largest abortion provider in the past. In 2010, a panel sponsored by the Girl Scouts USA at the United Nations Commission featured a Planned Parenthood pamphlet called “Healthy, Happy and Hot," according to published reports.

A portion of the pamphlet read: “Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse. But there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. Sex can include kissing, touching, licking, tickling, sucking and cuddling. Some people like to have aggressive sex, while others like to have soft sex and slow sex with their partners. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!”

GSUSA CEO Kathy Cloninger’s stupid comments in 2004. She is gone.

That UN youth conference in 2010 where a non-GS organzation left shockingly distasteful youth sex literature in the room where the GS were among teens attending a meeting. Literature not produce by, distributed by, or planned for the conference by GS.

References to family planning topics and links for teenage girls to research in teenage womens health literature. As if this constituted GS promotion of abortion anymore that similar literature at schools, colleges, doctors offices and even many churches.

Not only did I read it, I communicated my concerns to GS in my Council and GSUSA, because I manage over 400 girls in more than 20 troops, half of whom are in troops at our local Catholic parish, as is half of my own troop and my own daughter.

The answer straight from GIRL SCOUT HQ IS

Girl Scouts HAS NO DIRECT TIES TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD.

We are a federated organization

The Councils are free to make their own relationships and partnerships, as part of the United Way and other nonprofit community participants.

Nation's Capitol and Baltimore Councils, which is where cookie money that does not go direct to the troops stays, HAVE NO TIES TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD. NONE. NADA. ZIP.

Furthermore, we GS Troops and Councils don't make donations. We receive them.

The priest in the parish cited in the article was obviously confused if quoted correctly, because “WAGGGS” (World Associationof Girl Scouts and Girl Guides) is the international Scouting organzation based in London. Yes, we are members of the international organization of 145 countires that have GS and GG.

But so is Boy Scouts a member of a World Scouting Organization that embraces homosexuals and mixed sex troops, unlike BSUSA.

The international scouting organizations for boys and for girls are very liberal, dominated by europeans and growing 3rd worlders (surprise), and heavily tied to the United Nations agenda.

Mostly, I and every other leader I know....ignores them, and mostly ignores National too.

Maybe they get $2 of our $12 annual GSUSA membership fee.
One final fluffy ill-informed comment from me. Did you know England has more girls joined in Boy Scouts (now just called Scouts) than it does boys? It ain't Robert Baden-Powell's Boy Scouts ay more.

“The Girl Scouts have relationships with many organizations, and, yes, I think they are all very valuable,” Pelosi replied.

Pelosi had been featured at the reception to promote “To Get Her There,” a new initiative by GSUSA to promote women’s leadership. While the national branch of Girl Scouts has recently been denying the organization’s relationship with Planned Parenthood, on March 5, 2004 Girl Scouts CEO Kathy Cloninger admitted on NBC’s The Today Show: “We partner with many organizations. We have relationships with…Planned Parenthood organizations across the country.”

In national survey in 2004, sixteen Girl Scout councils admitted to partnering with Planned Parenthood, around 25% of the councils who responded to the survey. Most did not respond, however.

The Girl Scouts/Planned Parenthood controversy erupted anew in 2010 after it was revealed that the scouting group distributed a graphic sex education pamphlet by Planned Parenthood entitled “Happy, Healthy, and Hot” during an event at the United Nations headquarters. Last month, a Catholic parish in Virginia banned the Girl Scouts from meeting on church grounds over the Planned Parenthood connection.
