WA Senate approves bill to legalize gay marriage

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) -- The Washington state Senate on Wednesday passed a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage, setting the stage for the state to become the seventh to allow gay and lesbian couples to wed.

The measure now heads to the House, which is expected to approve it. Gov. Chris Gregoire supports the measure and has said she will sign it into law, though opponents have promised to challenge it at the ballot with a referendum.

The packed public galleries burst into applause as the Senate passed the measure on a 28-21 vote Wednesday night after nearly an hour and a half of debate. Four Republicans crossed party lines and voted with majority Democrats for the measure. Three Democrats voted against it.

Democratic Sen. Ed Murray, the bill's sponsor, said he knew same-sex marriage "is as contentious any issue that this body has considered in its history."

Lawmakers who vote against gay marriage "are not, nor should they be accused of bigotry" he said.

“Gay Marriage” has only enacted by legislature and the court.

When the people vote on the issue...It always fails.

Yes, it does. Praying for the referendum thing to stall this into oblivion.

That’s the reason why the libtards use their lackeys in the courts to do their evil. Even here in Mexifornia, the population voted against this garbage and they had to resort to lib courts to shove it down the population.

Yes-—but what they are doing is putting those words “homosexual marriage” together which is a misuse of the word “marriage”-—like the good Marxists, they are, to destroy meaning of words.

Our legal dictionaries had a definition of marriage which they bastardized-—illegally. There is no such thing as “homosexual marriage”.

Say the big lie over and over and it normalizes the concept. The younger kids approve it by 80 % or so——30 years ago—the idea would have been considered dumb or silly and EVIL and approval by the young would have been 15%

They are teaching (brainwashing and conditioning) children moral relativism—there is no right and wrong. They are destroying the concept of Natural Rights from God—and making barney frank our god. It is totally against Right Reason, therefore it is irrational—and unconstitutional. Laws have to be based on Logic and Reason and Natural Law—First Principles of our Constitution-—the Supreme Law of the Land. They can NOT DEFY the principles in the Constitution. (But they are but this can be made Null and Void—because it defies the underlying principles of our Constitution. They can NOT call evil -good and good-evil. It is irrational and unconstituional for government to promote evil-—particularly to children.

Virtue is necessary for all Free Republics. Sodomy is evil and dysfunctional and disease causing and unnatural. Right Reason According to Nature-—is how Just Law is made-—all our laws HAVE to be Just Law, otherwise they can easily be made Null and Void. I am reading about John Marshall and the establishment of Judicial Review-—and the meaning and intent of our Founding Documents. Homosexual marriage is incompatible with many elements in our Constitution-—NO 1—It goes against nature and Design by God.

Sodomy is always evil and intrinsically disordered and it is a learned behavior. They should outlaw it because it is learned through child abuse and by affirming it, they are oking child abuse. You can never teach children that evil is good and have rational, emotionally healthy adults.

Hate to tell you this, but not in Washington state it wonL

When the ‘everything but marriage’ law got passed by the Legislature back in 2009, they got the signatures to put it up for a vote. However, EVERY county in the state voted NO except 7 (King, Snonhomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Thurston, Clallam, & Jefferson) and it passed. The gays KNOW opponents can get the signatures to get it on the ballot.

They also know that all they need are those 7 counties for passage, and they are chock full of gays & liberals.

Barring an act of Almighty God, the gays can’t lose on this one, and everyone knows it.

While understanding what was intended by the statement, in the temporal sense, there is an irony in that statement, founded in eternity; they do lose.

Did I mention that since leaving Seattle last summer I love my new home in rural Kentucky?

:-)

This vote is actually within one of the categories of reasons I left. I used to enjoy an ice cream cone at the Dicks on Broadway and would sometimes include that strip on my around the lake bike rides. My take on that sodomite infested area: The circus is always in town. You can hear some incredible conversations too. ;-)

I think the only failure was Arizona in in 2006, which later passed an amendment in 2008. Like you said, it wasn’t a popular vote to enact “gay marriage” but a failure to protect the state’s recognition of the institution.

Several states have been in the low 50% ranges, and the last such vote was 2008 with prop. 8’s 52%, I think. There is some question if some of the lib states would pass at all today, especially some of the more lib states that passed their amendments 5+ years ago. Like Hawaii was one of the first, passing one in ‘98 by 69%, no way it even comes close to that now, it would be lucky to be in the low 50% range.

Minnesota has one this Nov, and NC has one during the primary I think. I bet a popular vote type amendment would be very, very close in Washington. There are many states that passed their amendments in the 70-80% ranges, they would still easily pass in those states, but I doubt if they would pass by so much. I think in 20 years many of the pro-marriage amendments simply get overturned by popular vote.

“Gay Marriage” has only enacted by legislature and the court.

And the only reason it passes in legislatures is because the Gaystapo is expert in intimidation tactics, and just enough jelly-spined legislators don't have the stomach for a fight for what's right. No one is nastier than an angry fag.

Can I marry my dog? Why not? You’re just a bigot for disagreeing with my animalphillia.

Marriage (as opposed to civil unions) is fundamentally a religious institution. All major religions define marriage as between men and women only.

Government needs to get out of the marriage business and leave it to the churches. Having the government recognize civil unions - with exactly the same tax and inheritance benefits as marriage - would be an easy way to end the debate.

The magic word is ‘marriage’. Gay marriage is a stalking horse to attack people with religious convictions, just as stem cells was used to promote abortion. When scientists found out that adult stem cells work just as well or better than stem cells from aborted babies, the urgent lobbying by the left to have the government fund it was quietly dropped.

Recognizing civil unions would remove marriage as a similar attack weapon. This is why the backers of the bill made sure that new law ends the legality of pre-existing civil unions. It even forces those in such unions to be ‘married’ automatically.

The next step will be to compel everyone by government fiat to support gay marriage regardless of their religious convictions. This is why. for example, the amendment to protect wedding photographers and cake decorators was blocked.

The whole thing is an attack by the left on those with religious convictions, nothing more.
