A defining moment in Mitt Romney's post-pro-life-conversion political career came in his third year as governor of Massachusetts, when he decided Catholic hospitals would be required under his interpretation of a new state law to give rape victims a drug that can induce abortions.
Romney announced this decision -- saying it was the "right thing for hospitals" to do -- just two days after he had taken the opposite position.
The story begins in 1975, when Massachusetts enacted a law that said, "No privately controlled hospital .. shall be required to permit any patient to have an abortion ... or to furnish contraceptive devices or information to such patient ... when said services or referrals are contrary to the religious or moral principles of said hospital ... ."
Twenty-seven years later, when Romney was running for governor, he filled out a questionnaire for NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. It said: "Emergency contraception does not cause abortion. Rather, it prevents pregnancy from occurring. Will you support efforts to increase access to emergency contraception?"
Romney said: "Yes."
The next year, the Massachusetts legislature considered an "emergency contraception" mandate. It would have allowed pharmacists to sell Plan B -- an abortifacient -- without a prescription and without parental consent. It also would have required all hospitals to inform rape victims of the availability of such "emergency contraceptives" and provide them to the rape victim if she wanted them even when they would cause an abortion.
Maria Parker of the Massachusetts Catholic Conference, the public policy organization of the state's Catholic bishops, explained in testimony to the state legislature why Catholic hospitals could not do this"

Do some research on Mormonism, and you may change your mind. I can't imagine having as Commander-in-Chief someone who believes such heresies.
Please freepmail me if you want on/off this list
It would be UNPRECEDENTED, like America’s first MUSLIM president.
Everyone should watch this:
“Do some research on Mormonism, and you may change your mind. I can’t imagine having as Commander-in-Chief someone who believes such heresies”
then why not vote Obama? our “born” again leader.
[or better yet: send a donation to the Gingrich campaign]
It would be nice if it were so simple. Exactly what action do you believe Newt could take as President which would make abortion illegal in the United States?
Can you tell me any substantive difference between 0bama and R0mney?
“They back a guy which has so many flip flops that he will be ripped apart”
If the Republican nominee is Mitt, someone needs to catalogue and hammer home the flip flops of Obama on everything from his 2008 campaign promises to his governance as President, as counterpoint to the Chicago machine attacks on the GOP nominee.
Pregnancy is not a disease. Abortion is not health care. Abortion is murder.
Fertility is not a disease. Contraceptives are not health care. Contraceptives are poison.
You probably already know this ... I post it for those who don't.
Now I believe Romney has a serious mental problem - he truly cannot tell the truth. This is his mo - wonder if any shrink is out there analyzing him. I doubt his supporters are watching close enough. They probably pass it off as him just being political but it's way more serious.
I think a firghtening percentage of policitians, regardless of party or positions, would fail the psych screening required at any decent municipal police department.
Absloutely right, they're both liberals.
Romney has never known a conviction to which he was true. This is disgusting.
Re: post #47
The CIC can set the tone so that, while Roe v Wade may remain the law of the land, supporting policies such as the forcing of Catholic institutions to perform abortions and other sanctity of life issues would not come to pass.
The POTUS can use his power and persuasion to stand up for religious liberty. That’s the difference I see.
Absloutely right, they’re both liberals.
Wrong. Romney is a liberal; Obama is a Marxist. Think about it.
Note: it does not hurt to have this thread (or one of them) as breaking news, but just let folks know it is a duplicate and there has been some previous discussion on this.
This should be an important topic since:
1. Catholics are the single largest religious group of voters.
2. Fallen away Catholics are the second largest religious group of voters.
I personally think that this make Romney the RINO just as Anti-Catholic as that Muslim Obama...
OK. So then would you vote for men who believed that GOD created earth and then abandoned it and as well denied the Divinity of Jesus Christ? Think real hard before replying.
