Flyer On Gay Choice Stirs Controversy

ROCKVILLE, Md. - A flyer sent home with some high school students in Montgomery County, Md., is causing consternation among parents.

The flyer is from a group called PFOX, Parents And Friends Of Ex-Gays And Gays. In the one-page message, the group tells teenagers that no one is "born gay", and people can choose their sexual orientation.

Karen Yount-Merrell, a licensed, clinical social worker, got one of the flyers when her son came home with his report card from Einstein High School.

"I don't like it," Yount-Merrell declared. "Everything in this flyer make its sound like the goal is to be [an] EX-gay, [or an EX]-lesbian. It is not embracing of a different orientation. It reiterates a societal view that there's something 'wrong' with you, if you're not in the norm. If you aren't heterosexual. And teenagers have a hard enough time dealing with who they are and feeling good about themselves."

Supporters of the flyer say their literature simply calls for "tolerance" of a different viewpoint on homosexuality.

"If people were to actually read the content of the flyer that we're distributing, they will see there is nothing in here that is insulting or even critical of homosexuals,” said PFOX board member Peter Sprigg. “All it is telling kids [is] that you don't have to be gay if you don't want to be."

The group is taking advantage of school board policy in Montgomery County. Based on court decisions, the policy is: if a group can prove it is a non-profit, community entity, it can send flyers home with students on four occasions a year. Most of the time, it is the PTA or the Girl Scouts that send home flyers. There is little or no controversy over those messages.

I "love" how choice is never "choice"... it just sounds pretty.

It reiterates a societal view that there's something 'wrong' with you, if you're not in the norm.

While "wrong" is a value judgement, there is no argument whatever that you are definitely abnormal.

And teenagers have a hard enough time dealing with who they are and feeling good about themselves.

If you've chosen an abominable lifestyle, perhaps it's perfectly normal for you to feel lousy about yourself and to have trouble dealing with your rejection by society. The answer isn't to bend society to your perversion; it's for you to adapt to society's norms and reject the behavior that earns its scorn.

The flyer is a breath of fresh air in the fetid push by the homosexual community to recruit our youth!!

Do these people not believe in Free Will?

What do they say about alcoholics? Is it OK for them to drive drunk if they were born with a "pre-disposition" to alcoholism?

Choice implies responsibility for that choice.

The homo agenda revolves around them being unable to be any other way, ie, blaming God for their sexual preferences,

and thereby being unaccountable for what they know, viscerally (Romans 2:15), is wrong.

"It is not embracing of a different orientation"

Oh, goodness....we gotta be sympathetic to the sex deviates and life-style choices made by immature youth.....

This woman needs help.

Stated perfectly IronJack. I’ll NEVER be shamed for being heterosexual and thinking the alternative is creepy. The “forced acceptance” campaign won’t ever work on me.

Parents should do whatever they can to get their kids out of the public schools. They are vehicles for the liberal agenda.

Yes, the message is refreshing.

This kid's mother is quite impressed with herself. Oh, the horror that some have the nerve to defy the PC police and publicly state that they find this behavior “abnormal”...when she is so uber-evolved and tolerant....tolerating an ever expanding list of abnormal behavior, while trying to lock down public discourse.

Be funny if her son turns out to find religion and looks at her with pity/disgust. Kids sometimes “revolt”.

Homosexual is a choice. The antithesis of everything that is right spiritually, and everything that is natural physically. To teach children that it is legitimate is child abuse of the worst kind.

There is a perfectly good word in the English language that describes a person who deviates from the norm. Deviant.

During the 70's and 80's there was a huge effort on the part of social scientists to "prove" that homosexuality was NOT a choice, that one was born with that sexual orientation.

There was never, ever any proof of "gay genes"; that is, homo/bisexuality was always and always a choice. Events and relationships in the life of a child greatly influenced the homo/bisexual person and often steered him/her to the abnormal life, but, in the end, it WAS a choice.
THAT was never published because it was just "devastating" to the abnormals. They brushed it off as lies.

Hah!

not “orientation” but rather “preference”

The homosexual born that way lobby pushed “orientation” because “preference” implied ability to select. It continues to be a propaganda trick.

The flyer should state it is a “preference not an orientation.”

The ENTIRE study of fetishes and how they came about was deliberate and “scientific”. Conditioning behaviors and responses etc.

The homosexual lobby insisted this ONE fetish was merely “born” flying against all the logic and science of then AND today.

So the Reprobates are upset— Well I have a son in law who drinks daily—used to do other drugs as well on regular basis— he used to get highly upset when I refer to him as an “alcoholic” claims he can quit anytime.Same excuse heard from those who smoke tobacco products/and or pot. on regular basis —they get upset when their drugs of choice are put before them.Fat people get really peaved if anyone suggests their weight may be a problem they could control. I find no different with any of these “choices” and those of the Sodomite. .. or the Infidel unbeliever who wants religion and morality removed from our society.

Sorry,the actual liberal reaction:

“We cannot as a society tolerate such hateful comments; IRONJACK must be punished,fined,imprisoned,re-educated,banished,and otherwise made an example of in the name of TOLERANCE!”

TOLERANCE is a code word meaning you must accept all forms of evil and shun all that relates to Christianity or Judaism.
