Komen apologizes for 'recent decisions,' pledges to continue funding Planned Parenthood
Dallas Morning News ^ | 2/3/2012 | Tom Benning

Komen for the Cure just released the following statement from Nancy Brinker and the Susan G. Komen Board of Directors:

We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives.

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.

Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer. Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.

“the Komen corporation has dirty fundraising hands. this is and was ALWAYS about money. period.”

Exactly, FRiend. They may call these operations “non profits” but they are quite profitable to those people that run them and take home fat pay checks.

Are you talking about the three main exceptions to abortion, rape, incest and life of the Mother? I find those reasonable.

Completely unreasonable. It is still murder.

1. Suppose it is discovered that you were actually fathered by your mother's uncle, not your "dad". Would it be OK to kill you now by sucking your brain into a sink? And how is that different if you were only 9 months old? 2 months old?

2. Suppose it is discovered, after long years of being buried because of your Mom's shame, that you were fathered by a brutal rapist, not your "dad". (This HAPPENED to someone very close to me.) Can we put a scalpel through your nose, and flush your brains with saline now? And why is that different than if you were 9 months old?

Once people really understand what abortion is, they understand that these "exceptions" are not reasonable.

guess that will be my first and last donation.

Reverse the charges on your CC, or cancel the check?

FRC Responds to Susan G. Komen’s Reconsideration of Abortion-Neutral Stance
February 03, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Family Research Council responded today to news reports that Susan G. Komen for the Cure may be loosening its grant eligibility requirements and also reconsidering its abortion-neutral stance. The Komen statement released today doesn’t promise new funding for Planned Parenthood but does make future funding an open question.

Jeanne Monahan, Family Research Council’s Director for the Center for Human Dignity, had the following to say:

“The Susan G Komen Foundation made two policy changes this week to ensure money would be better spent to save women’s lives. The first policy change ensured that grants are more directly focused on results. Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms. The second new requirement is that Komen will not award money to organizations that are under federal investigation. Both of these policy decisions ensure money would be better spent to save women’s lives while also making Susan G. Komen abortion-neutral.

“It would be heartbreaking for women who suffer from breast cancer if Planned Parenthood has bullied Komen into loosening their higher standards. Women deserve the best. Komen should stay focused on saving lives, not supporting the nation’s largest abortion provider.

“It is truly unbelievable that the nation’s largest abortion provider has been able to take what has been considered one of America’s most well respected and beloved organizations and demonize it overnight for simply making their grants results-oriented. Planned Parenthood is putting their abortion ideology above the health of women,” concluded Monahan.

Yep, Komen should have stood firm. Now, PP has benefitted from other donors and from Komen in the short run. In the long run, Komen got the feeling they were finished because of their original decision. Now they will be finished because of the flip and flop. In the process, the PP goal of finishing Komen off will come to fruition and PP will pick up the slack by advertising addtional services. Hardball at its best. Catholics and evangelicals, Komen and any other entities with morals and ethics better get the steel spine and quick.

You see emotion takes over and logic takes a walk.
Now what would you do if you had a young daughter in one of those positions would your answer still be the attitude that you wrote to me???

Frankly I had for a very long time question why seperate organizations in regards to breast cancer. Cancer is cancer, regardless of where it hits. Besides what kills women more is heart desease.

I have even question the value of the Koman organization way, way before this brehaha came to light.

I absolutely HATE seeing grown men (well, males of any age) running around and playing football in PINK. The color was likely used because it is a feminine color, so why dress up males in it??? How about a more masculine color like blue??

The PINK SICKNESS has now moved to high school and even down to POP Warner football.

Yuck!

Someone in here on FR told me that “the reason doesn’t matter, just be happy and donate...”.

I replied the reason does matter - for the reasons you state - and as shown by their re-reversal.

"I really hate all the pink ribbon stuff and related stuff."

Me too!! As a breast cancer survivor, I've always said it is a way for the "do-gooders" to feel good about helping those who have cancer. I don't want/need any reminder, thank you very much.

Side note: MLB is big on promoting Komen and having those pink ribbon days.....

Another reason I’d like to get rid of Selig.

The child lives. No matter who its father is. It is my grandchild. To kill it is evil.

Being a victim (of sorts) of something other than breast cancer, I prefer to earmark my donations to Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, which affects more people every year that breast cancer and heart disease combined.

As it stands now, with the CDC, “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” and monies that could go for research into the causes and possible cure of CFIDS (insidious, nasty disease) we get what’s left after AIDS and breast cancer research.

If you need enlightenment on the disease and how it affects victims and their families and friends, go to cfids.org/symptoms. A lot of us could have been productive a lot longer than we were.

I refuse to give cancer research any funds at all, though I’m sure part of my donations will end up there unless I specifically tag it for CFIDS research.

SGK also said they were going to continue to give PP the usual $300,000+ payments several more times before stopping as they had a contractual obligation to do so. Their funding would have likely continued for the next year, sad to say. They truly have blood on their hands, and now that their dirty little secret has been exposed, I hope they wither on the vine and die after this bone-headed decision.
