February 6, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Even as the United States Catholic bishops have launched an all-out campaign against the Obama administrations birth control mandate and urged their flocks to resistance, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has invoked the support of fellow Catholics to justify her position in favor of the mandate.
Pelosi was confronted at last Wednesdays press briefing by a reporter from CNSnews.com, who began by pointing out that the mandate, which requires all employers to cover all sterilizations and contraception, including drugs that can cause early abortions, forces Catholic individuals and institutions to act against Church teaching.
Irritated, Pelosi, a self-professed devout Catholic, interrupted: Is this a speech, or do we have a question in disguise as a speech?
The reporter continued, citing a letter from the U.S. bishops, in which the bishops vowed not to comply with the law, and asked: will you stand with your fellow Catholics in resisting this law or will you stick by the Administration?
First of all, I am going to stick with my fellow Catholics in supporting the Administration on this. I think it was a very courageous decision that they made, and I support it, the minority leader responded.
The comment came as at least 164 Catholic bishops across the country, representing over 90% of the countrys dioceses, have blasted the mandate, in many cases ensuring that letters were read to the faithful during Sunday Mass calling the mandate unconstitutional and unjust.
The question by the CNSnews reporter was not the first time Pelosi has been confronted about the apparent conflict between her political views and her claimed status as a devout Catholic.
In an interview with the Washington Post this past November, she acknowledged that many Catholics object to being forced to fund abortions, noting that they have this conscience thing.
The former speaker has also said she has some areas of disagreement with the countrys bishops, and has claimed that Catholicism does not necessarily condemn abortion.
However, the new modernist Catholic Church is clear on the issues being discussed here. This candidate for a strait jacket is confused: mentally.
She dares to call herself "catholic" because she believes she once was Catholic. There are many folks out there who think they are Catholic but disagree with everything the new Church stands for.
Pelosi IS excommunicated (she did this herself). However, the USCCB needs to make a public declaration (as a whole in my opinion) to announce to the world that she is officially recognized as excommunicated.
Personally I don't care if the world hates the Church for coming out and saying such a thing. The Church needs to do what is right; not what is popular. Perhaps the Church is on the way to throw out the newly created religion that Vatican II has apparently allowed.
I'm tired of Pelosi running around saying, "I'm catholic." That's what we need to put a stop to. And do so very, very publicly. Until she repents she has no right to claim to be a part of a Church she completely disagrees with.
YES... IT DOES... YOU TWIT!
I feel like I'm a victim from the movie Scanners. At any moment, I'm just waiting for my head to explode. What the Hell happened to the world over the last couple of years? My God!
This is the most stupid thing that has ever come out of her mouth. Catholics are against this, Nancy!
The USSCB has to put an excommunication on her @$$ as well as Kerry, Cuomo, Bart Stupidpak, and the rest of this PI$$@NT liberals.
In fact she prefers the "cafeteria" to Catholicism.
She should really refer to herself as a Cafeterian.
She needs excommunication badly.
We are living in a 1984 would. Obama and his minions' language is Doublespeak.
Before Christs second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.
The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the mystery of iniquity in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth.
Lying about Church teaching regarding the sin of abortion IS “apostasy from the truth”!
Wow, with friends like Pelosi, Catholics don’t need enemies.
Many of them brought this on themselves but supporting passage of Obama-care and are now saying they are sorry they did. “Mandates for thee but not for me” is their motto apparently.
Someone should tell them that taxes are a mandate too.
This woman’s arrogance is such that, in her mind, she’s more of an authority on Catholicism than the Pope.
A thousand years of damage in just three years.
“Lying about Church teaching regarding the sin of abortion IS apostasy from the truth!”
It’s one of those muslim things where the devout muslim can lie if needed to accomplish “Allah’s will”.
And it’s just “workplace violence” when “our” muslim soldier shouts “Allahu Akbar” and shoots Americans at an army base.
FREUD WOULD HAVE A FIELD DAY WITH THESE PEOPLE
Obama is very, v-e-r-y disturbed.......he exhibited the depths of his psychoses with this move against Catholics.
Obama seems to have a deep-seated need to devalue others (and their dearly-held beliefs).......as a way to bring others down to his level.
Devaluing others shores up Obamas pathetic lack of self-esteem.
She couldn’t lie straight in bed.
Note her constant desperation to inflate her ego with words like ‘courageous’ i.e. if they are courageous then so is she by dint of agreeing with them.
Of course she’s got it 180 deg backward but what else is new?
The bishops are waking up very late in the day. They're prepared to write letters and stamp their feet. But are they prepared to make it clear that every "Catholic" who shares Pelosi's views is in a state of mortal sin and have self-excommunicated? Are they willing to "downsize" the Church by expelling CINOs? We shall see.
If they do not, Obama will have been proven correct in his assessment of the Church.
Unfortunately this doesn’t qualify as apostasy. But perhaps it will be the final straw that qualifies her for excommunication. Excommunication isn’t some kind of fatal sentence and can be reversed, so it could be a wake-up-and-smell-the-coffee moment for her.
Only Pelosi. Anyone else and this would be satire.
Nancy is just as much a Catholic as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a Jew.
I agree, time to publicly excommunicate her.
