New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino teamed up for a pro-gun control ad that aired during yesterdays Super Bowl. At The Daily Beast, liberal UCLA law professor Adam Winkler argues that not only is the ad likely to backfire, it might just hurt President Barack Obamas reelection campaign as well. He writes:
Gun-control proponents can only pray that Obama doesnt take Menino and Bloombergs bait. Making gun control a more important issue in the election would be a terrible mistake for the presidentand for the cause of gun control....
For many pro-gun independents, Obama is not seen as a real threat to gun rights. They are focused on more pressing issues, like the economy and jobs. If Obama starts talking about gun control, however, they may begin to believe the NRAs dire warnings. And the impact will be felt not just in the presidential race. It will hurt Democrats all the way down the ballot. Recall that when the Newt Gingrichled Republicans seized control of the House in 1994, President Bill Clinton blamed the gun-control laws he himself had pushed through during his first two years in office. Obamas talking about guns would be a disaster for Democrats andnecessarilyfor the prospects of new gun control.

Must be hell to be a white liberal ensconsed in some “safe zone” but just on the other side of the wall are a bunch of Democratic party voters who will eat you for dinner. So the natural reaction, blame the flyover country white men for your problems.
Could Bloomberg Anti-Gun Push Hurt Obama’s Reelection?
Most emphatically yes!
Where does that leave us?
...burying them or digging them up?
Mayor Menino could be reached for comment, but could not be understood...
Can I get me some cosmoline around here?
NY, and especially NYC, are deep-blue, locked-down, guaranteed Obama territory. The rest of the country at large won’t even pay attention to what goes on there.
So, no... Bloomie’s stances on guns won’t hurt Obama’s reelection chances at all.
Sure. But you gotta learn how to hold the shotgun first...
“ScottinVA -...Bloomies stances on guns wont hurt Obamas reelection chances at all. “
Residents in NYC would rather be a victim of a crime, call the police , wait 20 minutes for the police to arrive, identify the ‘perp’(IF HE IS CAUGHT), and then wait for over a year until it comes up on the ‘trial calender’. In the mean time , the perp is either out on bail committing new offenses and new vicitims, or getting credit for ‘time served’..
Incarceration costs apporximately $35,000 per year for: food, housing, health and safety, and optional free education.
OR: pull a firearm in self-defense and immediately resolve the issue .
NYC is the epitomy of: The NANNY STATE
Bloomie already appeals to the citizens of the canyons known as NYC.
If he continues with this anti-gun advertizing , he might just wake up the rest of the country and especially the ‘uncommitted voter’ that both parties are looking for .
I see his continued advertizing to be localized to NYC and Conn. , and appealing to his constituancy and not the nation in general .
