Komen VP resigns following Planned Parenthood reversal
Daily Caller ^ | February 7, 2012 | Caroline May

Posted on 02/07/2012 10:18:10 AM PST by NYer

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation’s senior vice president for public policy, Karen Handel, resigned from her post Tuesday morning following the breast cancer group’s decision to de-fund, then re-fund, Planned Parenthood.

Due to her outspoken pro-life views when she ran for Georgia governor in 2010, in the days and week following the decision to revoke funding from the abortion provider and the subsequent reversal of that decision, Handel became the name most closely associated with the policy changes that lead to Komen’s decision to pull funding.

Noting the important role the breast cancer organization has been playing for more than 30 years, Handel explained in her resignation letter to Komen’s founder and chief executive that she “carried out [her] responsibilities faithfully and in line with the board’s objectives,” and that the decision to pull Planned Parenthood funding was fully vetted by every appropriate level of the organization.

“I am deeply disappointed by the gross mischaracterizations of the strategy, its rationale, and my involvement in it. I openly acknowledge my role in the matter and continue to believe our decision was the best one for Komen’s future and the women we serve,” she wrote in her letter explaining that the decision to defund was not based on ideology or politics, but on the mission to better serve women.

According to Handel, the decision to “update [their] granting model” was made prior to her joining Komen.

Komen is back on the list of Must Boycott.

I hope this VP moves on to bigger and better things. She did a very good thing, followed by a very principled thing.

Handel did a huge service for truth by exposing a disingenuous organization and acted out against the current hegemony.

The mass media took the bait and now Komen has been exposed for what they truly believe in: power, influence, money, and a large overhead by charity standards.

The irony of this story is the unreported abortion/breast cancer link.

I’m glad there was one person at Komen willing to take a stand. Any cause that gets the sort of media love that Komen has received is going to be dominated by liberals and those liberals are going to be pro-abortion. The libs saw the withdrawing of Planned Parenthood funds as a threat to their power and exacted their fury, just as anybody should have expected. And Komen caved just as anybody should have expected.

The only surprise is that somebody high up had the courage to stand up and say “I quit” over this.

Just one more bit of human wreckage in Planned Parenthood’s wake. They don’t care as long as the money rolls in.

it is high time that the right and I mean all on the right wake up and start to fight these social issues.

I’m sick to death of the elitist telling us social issues do not matter and lets just look at fiscal matters.

If that is what they want then let them join the libertarian party and be liberal on social issues but don’t tell the country or the majority of the country we have to pay for their killings, we have to now accept homosexuals, marrying or getting kids and playing families

and the left will continue on with their war on social issues and will win because we have a gutless GOP, RNC who seem to think social issues are not worthy of a fight or don’t mention marriage or killing babies what tax payers have to pay for.

Either we start a new party with the likes of Allen West in it , or we overturn the GOP or we will lose and the killing of babies tax payers paying for it, homo marriages, 9 wives etc will become the norm and then be taught in schools to 5 year olds etc.

The biggest thing ANY group should have learned is to NEVER give Planned Parenthood money because if you do, you can NEVER stop giving them money or be crucified.

You know.. as “trendy and hip” as Americans like to be, and seeing all those stupid pink ribbons all over the place, someone needs to create one with featuring a bloody aborted fetus as part of the design. Maybe that’ll turn some heads.

good for her, I can’t see why she would go to komen in the first place, besides the affiliation with planned parenthood there is also the denial of the abortion and breast cancer link and most people who work for and support komen are democrats.

Maybe she thought she could make a difference, one step at a time. At least she tried, that's more than many others do.

yea, i guess so.

it’s too bad so some catholic churches still print the race for the cure in their bulletins, some churches actively participate in the race by forming teams and soliciting their parish.

“The irony of this story is the unreported abortion/breast cancer link.”

The other irony and tragedy is the unreported mammogram/breast cancer link.

Lifeway Books (Baptists) Bible recall:

"Statement on 'Here's Hope Cancer Awareness Bible' on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 We made a mistake. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, B&H Publishing Group released to several mass market retailers a Cancer Awareness Bible as a way to place God's Word into the hands of those suffering through breast cancer. As part of the project, B&H agreed to donate $1 from the sale of each Bible to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for breast health education, screening and treatment programs. As this project has developed, we realized it was a mistake."

"...and a large overhead by charity standards."

Yep......which is precisely why I give to one charity, and one charity only:

The Salvation Army. Unbelievably good organization, ultra-low overhead. Whatever you give goes to God's work.

This is the beginning of what I predicted on another thread:

1 High level resignations of prolifers/cancer curers.
2 promotion of probortionists to high levels of komen
3 take over of komen from cancer research funding to “women’s health” funding

The irony is an organization that “serves women” also funds an organization which kills women. Female fetuses are women too! Imagine a liberal defending that.

ah the fall women for the gutless hoard that realized once your in bed with evil you have to have true courage and gonads to get out. May God continure to strengthen all who do the right and just thing under God. In this case the first decision was the right decision not only morally but logically for their organizations primary objectives and I am glad she said so.

The PP message that they are evil and not to be crossed is loud and clear. After all, when your "values" include sucking the brains out of an unborn child... where is the boundary of evil?

They are Zombies. Literally.

Our country is lost. Our government and most of it’s “charities” are nothing but Godless entities devoted to humanism and keeping God, his values, and his commandments out of our lives. The inevitable result...inevitable...is more pain, suffering and death.
