It's been at least ten minutes since our last Breaking News Story about the imminent (or already past) demise of the Tea Party, so we may as well trot out another one. Excuses for holding this particular wake vary from a general sense of dissatisfaction with the current crop of presidential candidates to perceived failures by the freshman GOP class of 2010 to consistently live up to their promises. The liberal leaning Daily Beast offers up the latest dissection of the Tea Party's corpse this week, with the following bits of “insight.”
But after months of wondering how the Tea Party would change the primary game, leaders inside the movement admit they never came in off the sidelines. For the Tea Party movement, the 2012 presidential primaries have been a bust.
The Tea Party movement is dead. Its gone, says Chris Littleton, the cofounder of the Ohio Liberty Council, a statewide coalition of Tea Party groups in Ohio. I think largely the Tea Party is irrelevant in the primaries. They arent passionate about any of the candidates, and if they are passionate, theyre for Ron Paul.
Littleton is one of the many who have endorsed the Texas congressman; he blames the other GOP candidates for the lackluster energy they have generated in the grassroots that hosted a revolution two years ago.
Perhaps a different view from a more conservative viewpoint is in order. Does the Tea Party have organizational problems when facing down more entrenched, establishment forces in the Republican Party? It’s certainly a common argument we’ve been hearing. But to put it all in context, let’s take a look at the latest video from Ben Shapiro. In it, he calls on each of you to adopt a far older model and become Minutemen for the cause. (The text of the comments follow the video and you are invited to comment.)
This week, Laura Ingraham and George Will had a fascinating conversation in the green room of ABCs This Week. The tea party, Ingraham said, doesnt have the great strength that the old media believe. Will disagreed slightly, stating, Its too soon to say that.
Ingraham is right. Will is wrong. Mitt Romneys victory proves it. Romney is no conservative. His record isnt conservative; his rhetoric isnt conservative; his unwillingness to embrace the Tea Party isnt conservative. His nomination proves that moderate to liberal forces inside the Republican Party and a large group of conservatives who have been wooed to back Romney based on the bizarre notion that he is most electable now control the direction of conservatism in the country.
As a committed Tea Partier, it breaks my heart to say this: we have lost our direction. Sure, we flexed our muscle in 2010, when we elected the largest class of new Congress members since 1948. We handed an opportunity to great Americans like Allen West and Marco Rubio. We struck fear into the hearts of the media. Hell, they were so scared they were pulling out the old racist card.
And then we were betrayed. We were betrayed by our own members of Congress, who proceeded to cave on the budget battle to avoid the dreaded government shutdown a shutdown that would impact virtually nobody except those on government benefits and on the debt ceiling, too. What did our legislators get in return for betraying us? They achieved a $352 million cut to the 2010 baseline budget thats was about .009% of the 2010 budget, in case youre wondering, and we were promised cuts of $7 billion in the 2012 budget authority, or about .2%. This wasnt a drop in the bucket. It was a molecule in the ocean.
The establishment treated us like Old Yeller. They loved us while we were hunting for them; as soon as we stopped being useful, they took us out back with a shotgun.
So what should the Tea Party do next? We should take a lesson from the real Tea Partiers. When they dumped chests of tea into the water of Boston Harbor, they didnt stop there. They ended up forming up into small bands of Minutemen. Those Minutemen drilled to fight the British. Most of the Minutemen had to equip themselves. They didnt have uniforms. They used old weapons. Rapid mobilization was their byword; they were known as the Minutemen because they were supposedly ready in a Minute.
Its time to move beyond the Tea Party. Weve had our party, weve dumped our tea in the harbor. The forces of big government and big media fought back. Now is the time to get active. Now is the time to become Minutemen. Whenever we see a violation of conservative principles by anybody, Democrat or Republican we must strike as hard and as fast as possible. We must not be bound by personal loyalty to candidates, but by loyalty to the principles of our founding fathers. Its our job to hold our elected officials feet to the fire. Milton Friedman once said, It’s nice to elect the right people but that isn’t the way you solve things. The way you solve things is by making it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing.” Thats our job. And now is the time for us to answer the call.
the tea party is not dead... it has just moved... you can find it at “small l libertarian.com”....
The TEA Party is not the Quarterback on the team. But if the Ruling GOP Political class thinks they don’t need the TEA Party on the team they will find themselves feeling like Gisele come Nov 7th.

From your mouth to GOD’S ears!
I know Tea Party (s) was an easy “take over” target for libertarians and fringe right wannabe political hacks, because it was pure grassroots without recognized leadership. We and a number of others just went back to regular life when we saw what was occurring, but the left will be making a huge mistake to assume the grassroots part of Tea Party is dead...... WE VOTE.
I think all those Reps that promised to cut 100 billion from the budget, got elected by the tea party and then cut next to nothing might have something to do with a lack of interest in the up coming election. I mean really, why even brother when NOBODY in D.C. keeps their promises? At least that is how I see things. Oh and then there is the debt ceiling deal too. Sending GOPers to Congress is mostly a waste of time, money and effort. There are a few good ones but most are no better then rats.
Tea Party is more of a state of mind, than an actual movement.

So, the MSM and Romney's people are crowing about their big win in Florida, and pronouncing Florida as a good approximation of the whole nation so as to say that if they can win there, they can win the white house.
But wait. I read that Republican turnout was DOWN in Iowa, NH, and Florida, and UP in South Carolina. What's it all mean? It means that when Paul and Romney were leading in the polls, conservatives were not excited, and didn't show up. But Newt fired them up in SC big time and they showed up in larger numbers than the last time around. What fired them up about Newt? He was talking the Conservative's talk, running roughshod over Juan Williams' racism gambit, and explaining conservatism over Juan's head. Thus the fired up turnout!
That Romney spent close to $20 MILLION to Newt's $3.8 Million, and had 65 TV advertisements for every Newt advertisement , AND they were all negative, means for Romney to win, he has to shut down the conservative base. How does Romney expect to win without a fired up base when HE'S outspent by Obama 67-1 NOT COUNTING all the media bias for Obama?
-------------------------------------------------------
Basically, the TEA party gets fired up when the Conservatives in the race gets fired up. But even TEA partiers can get disgruntled. Even I've been veering back and forth whether to even VOTE for president if Romboy wins.
” NUTS !!!! “
the problem with being a small l libertarian is the same problem that conservative’s have with the republican party.... To clarify, anyone who is not a republican believes all republicans are conservatives... now you and i know this is just not true... same thing with libertarians... the capital L libertarians (nutjobs) get the same rap as the small l libertarians.... I suggest to you that small l libertarians are more in line with conservatives than mainstream republicans are...if you believe in the constitution, AS WRITTEN... with a strong national defense, and anything not specifically granted to the fed is reserved by the states and the people respectively, then come on over to the dark side ( judging by your response, you are already there, just do not want to admit it )

My post was more to point out the “little or big L” libertarians attempted to take over the Tea Parties they perceived as an opportunity to gain some legimatecy with mainstream grassroots conservatives, which turned off many of us, becuase we didn’t ask for and would not just accept someone claiming leadership. Well maybe Sarah.
Don’t think my thinking is either little L or any L libertarian, which I think would prefer no rules, thus no Constitution. Just a simple ol conservative beleiving in Founders’ intent for the Constitution, yes.
