Another Twist for G.O.P. as Santorum Fares Well (NYT)
New York Times ^ | 8 February 2012 | Jim Rutenburg

His candidacy all but dismissed just days ago, Rick Santorum won the Minnesota and Colorado caucuses and a nonbinding primary in Missouri on Tuesday, an unexpected trifecta that raised fresh questions about Mitt Romney’s ability to corral conservative support.

With his triumphs, Mr. Santorum was also suddenly presenting new competition to Newt Gingrich as the chief alternative to Mr. Romney, the front-runner. Where Mr. Gingrich has won one state, South Carolina, Mr. Santorum has now won four, including Iowa...

Newt is my real choice but wasn't on the Mo ballot so I voted for Rick out of contempt for the RINO-Boy from Taxachussetts.

Now Japanese TV network NNN has also gotten into the act, with this brief/fun evening news report here in Tokyo on Santorum's multiple Tuesday primary/caucus victories over assumed nominee-coronated Mitt Romney:

How does a person expect to win a nomination if they aren’t even on the ballot? I heard that about another state too.

Lacks understanding a conservative solution to tax rates, there is a 18% difference in Santorum’s progressive rates. And where is the cut off? Is earning $200,000 considered millionaires and billionaires too?

Cut and simplify personal income taxes by cutting the number of tax rates to just two - 10% and 28%

Agreed - I could back anyone else other than Romney. What the heck happened to Newt? Oh well...

Who couldn't/wouldn't over the alternatives Obama/Romney?

With Romney as nominee, not only the republican party is doomed but so is our country.

There were no delegates awarded. Rick isn’t on in VA and IN. That is all that I know of, there may be more.

The electoral math, so far, shows the green guy doing way better than the blue guy. Even without a billionaire sugar daddy.

You're graphic is a little disingenuous. No delegates have been won in any of the green states other than the 6 in iowa.

If you listened to Michele Bachmann on Gretta last night; she explained the complex Minnesota caucus system and cautioned that it did not guarantee that last night's winner would receive all the delegates. I have heard no analysis on Colorado or Missouri.

Newt is still #2 in actual delegates awarded as best I understand the current count.

Also the FL delegates are disputed due to a violation of the GOP’s own rules regarding “winner take all” prior to April 1st. If that dispute is settled according to the rules; it will decrease the “red” Romney delegate count and add to the delegate counts for the other candidates.

I hope Newt stay well clear of any attacks on Santorum.

He should leave that to Romney.
If Romney does what he has in the past, he is about to get down and dirty on Rick.
Let Romney do the attacking and Newt stand by.
Stay above the fray.

If Santorum can stand up to Romney’s attacks and come out ahead, I would have no problem voting for him, If he doesn’t fare so well, Newt is still there.

I heard Bachmann last night but she sounded jealous and petty. Not o ce did she congratulate Rick or even acknowledge her fellow true conservative and fellow side podium neighbor in some of those debates.

Hi Yaelle-

Michele has often appeared that way to me in the past.

As you know, I am not a Santorum supporter (but will vote for him if he is the candidate); so, I didn’t pick up on any of that sentiment last night; perhaps because I was concentrating upon Bachmann’s explanaiton of the Minnesota primary process. It seemed very convoluted and multi-layered; which struck me as an opportunity for manipulation by outside forces.

It’s hard to be “open minded” about the GOP primary process after how the elites have manipulated it here in VA (claiming the rules can’t be changed or modified; therefore, Romney and Paul are the only ones on the ballot; w/no write-ins allowed) and then ignoring their own rules (no “winner take all” primaries prior to April 1st) in the FL primary after Romney won it.

I don’t trust any of the GOP-E.

Take care,

-Geoff

“Cut and simplify personal income taxes by cutting the number of tax rates to just two - 10% and 28%”

That’s a good proposal and if he abolishes AMT and a lot of loopholes, a darn sight better than the complex system we have today.
