Coulter Care - Schooling Ann Coulter on the individual mandate
The American Spectator ^ | February 8, 2012 | Peter Ferrara

Posted on 02/08/2012 5:22:35 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Sorry, Ann. I have adored you as a commentator, as you know, and appreciate your kind words about me in the past. But in discussing the individual mandate in your piece last week, "Three Cheers for RomneyCare," you honestly don't know what you are talking about. In the process, you are transgressing on my own work and past policy achievements, and grossly undermining the policy and political case against Obamacare. Read on, and I will explain in full.

It was me, working for and with conservative health policy guru John Goodman, who first rang the alarm bell for conservatives over the individual mandate in the early 1990s. As I explained recently in this space, it was we who led the fight to kill the Heritage Foundation health bill at that time.

That bill had been introduced by Sen. Don Nickles (R-OK) because he thought it was the conservative alternative to HillaryCare. Leaving Heritage over the matter and working for Goodman's National Center for Policy Analysis, I went through the bill line by line and wrote up all the conservative objections, which primarily stemmed from the individual mandate. I then got my critique signed by 37 major conservative leaders.

It was the only time you could find Phyllis Schlafly and Ed Crane signing on to the same document. Others who signed included Paul Weyrich, David Keene, and Grover Norquist. It was a Who's Who of conservative leaders.

When I delivered the document to Nickles' office, he had the good sense to pull the bill. Stuart Butler was furious with me, and it has ruined our previously close friendship to this day. I received awards for this work from the American Conservative Union and the Eagle Forum. That is because the Heritage health plan with its individual mandate was detested throughout...

Exactly. But strangely enough Muslims do not have to purchase health care because it’s against their religion. I read an article yesterday that said Muslim owned businesses and individuals get a pass because their religion feels it’s similar to gambling to purchase an insurance policy.

Against both religions but only 1 religion gets a pass.

This is an excellent article. Thank you for posting it. It’s sad to see what Ann has become. I hope she snaps out of it.

Good thing is that Ann is probably reading every thread about her and every article. She’s not budging and will of course poo poo Santorum’s beauty pageant wins.

She’s sickening and along with Drudge the major sacrifices of these primaries. I think the discust for her is long standing now.

The negative things she’s said about Sarah, Newt etc will not be forgotton.

Sadly to say, Ann Coulter is now a zero. I’ll neither buy her books (as I have) nor read her weekly column.

She’s sold out to the RINOs.

Bye Bye, Ann

The states created the Federal Government.

It was to be a servant of the states for doing some things the states couldn’t do individually.

Now the O law says the Federal Government will give you a deadline to set up a state insurance exchange or else it will come in and do it for you.

The states you mentioned are trying to circumvent that by doing something the constitution specifies...entering into compacts between states.

God bless Governor Perry and the others for doing this.

I know Brownback of Kansas, and I think the MO governor is Repubican, but if I’m not mistaken the one in OK is a Democrat...at least theirs was in recent years...but he knows where the people of OK stand on this, and it “ain’t” with Obama.

I lived in OK while going to college, and that is one CONSERVATIVE state.

Really good article and an excellent re-cap of why Romney is not the man to lead Republicans to victory. He is, was, and always will be a liberal "Rockefeller Republican"--better than Obama--but guaranteed not to inspire conservatives to turn out in the numbers needed.

In addition, his willingness to go all out negative in an attempt to destroy his opponents at any cost, is off-putting to people. Even those who will reluctantly support him against Obama will do so with about the same enthusiasm as we supported McCain.

You can't beat Democrats with Democrat-lite and that is what Establishment Republicans have attempted to do in every election since '76--with predictable results.

Impeach Ann Coulter.

Don't have to. She's impeached herself.

Coulter's credibility is finished with those who were her biggest supporters. She's through.

This is an excellent article! Thanks for posting! I hope a lot of Romney-bots who are going for him because of the electability thing will read this and wise up. That is a prescription for disaster. Especially liked his line to check out Romney’s advisors for a clue as to what he’ll do when elected! Yes! They’ve been saying just the opposite of what he says he’ll do in the debates, and that, dear friends, should give us all we need to know about him to realize he is no true conservative. Excellent, excellent article!

I don’t know what happened to Ann Coulter. She was one of my favorite commentators. I have bought her books. But like Goldwater, David Brock, Gergen, and a host of other erstwhile conservatives, She has “jumped the shark” and became a CINO. Generally it has something to do with homosexuality or some other latent sin. I wish there was a test to see who is genuine and who is deceiving us. But we, as liberty-loving conservatives must go on. There may be defections in our ranks, but they were never truly with us and if they were, they left us for the greener pastures of liberalism.

CaptainKrunch, as a woman, I am not upset about the remark, but totally agree. Women vote with their feelings and eyes. They like the good-looking candidates over the intellectual or serious candidates. When asked on the street what they like about their candidate, it usually has nothing to do with substance, such as what he stands for, but how he comes across, and looks are easily confused with intelligence. I know this by asking my own friends who they are voting for, and why, over MANY years now. It is the same all the time, but for a few very conservative friends. I have often said to my good friends that a mistake was made i n allowing women to vote...unless they pass a civics (or maybe a history) exam.

Liberalism is the disease.

Should a liberal man be allowed to vote while a conservative woman next to him in line to vote is turned away?

Both of you need to re-think this.

Should I be required to take and pass a civics course before voting...as conservative as I am...while a liberal man has no such requirement?

Think.it.all.the.way.through.

I know in the past everyone thought that Ann was so beautiful, but I’ve never seen it. Take away her long blond hair, and she’s really not so attractive.

I live in MA. RomneyCare cost me $1,100 last month alone in out-of-pocket health care costs for me and my family to cover a lapse in insurance from my old employer to my new one.

F*ck you, Mitt Romney.

And I'm glad people around here are finally warming up to the notion that Ann Coulter is a charlie uniform november tango.

Is it true that she is married?

That would settle the “crying game” issues.

First you mandate CORPORATIONS have to buy then you move to individuals. Remember most corporations have just one employee. The owner.

(s)there must be a constitutional right to be employed by a catholic entity/s)
