Newt's Southern Strategy Won't Work (Tokyo Rove alert)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 2/9/12 | Karl Rove

Posted on 02/09/2012 4:12:08 AM PST by jimbo123

Newt Gingrich's remarks Saturday night after the Nevada caucuses and on NBC's "Meet the Press" the next morning proved that presidential candidates should talk policy, not process.

Proclaiming "We want to get to Georgia, to Alabama, to Tennessee," Mr. Gingrich said primaries in the South would produce "a series of victories" that by the April 4 Texas primary would make him "very, very competitive in the delegate count."

Well, the Gingrich Southern strategy faces big obstacles, starting with Rick Santorum and Ron Paul. Demanding that these two candidates drop out so he becomes the only conservative alternative to Mitt Romney hasn't worked.

You make a good case. Never thought I’d say vote for Ron Paul but in Virginia I say go for it. Anything to stop Romney.

There's no "write in" voting allowed in the Virginia primary.

That's how much the party professionals fear the people around here.

Jim should look into that "pulling" since the ONLY candidate who would actually benefit in Virginia would be Romney, and I haven't seen anyone tell us that it's OK to do and say things that support Romney's candidacy.

Hmm.

Very suspicious!

Rove is a twisted backstabber. His love for poser Romney is destroying the GOP and America’s last chance.

Correct.

Rove was on hannity last night talking about Santorum's 3 victories on Tuesday and Rove referred to Santorum as that "lawyer", knowing how the world feels about lawyers.

Fat karl is eating his way to the Chris Christie fat slob of the year award.

Karl and Christie are equally conservative.

I predict Ron Paul will win VA as the only non-Romney cancidate. Gingrich and Santorum supporters know Paul can't win the nomintation, so it's a safe anti-Romney vote.

Wow, I never thought of that, what a great idea.

You talk about sending a message, the conservative voters of VA could hand mittens his ass and strike fear into the hearts of the rinos inside the beltway.

I'm gonna promote this idea as best I can and would hope that any FReepers that live in VA, would jump on this wonderful idea.

VOTERS OF VIRGINIA, VOTE RON PAUL. {I'm going to go and shower, now}.

Gingrich’s southern strategy “might” have worked... BUT after Tuesday Santorum wont be dropping out anytime soon which is a major problem.

Either Gingrich or Santorum has to drop out before Super Tuesday, or times up. And I don’t see any chance of that happening now.

*sigh*

Santorum hasn't won or finished better than 3rd in REAL ELECTIONS with a full slate of candidates, he's only won in caucus States and “beauty contests”.

You’re kind of a moron aren’t you?

So tell me why does Santorum have more delegates than Gingrich? Here’s a clue, Santorum has actually won more than one state.

You clowns sound more and more like democrats every day.

“Ata testified he wanted a job with the state of Illinois — not for the $127,000/year salary — but as a way to redeem himself in Chicago’s Arab community after he had been forced into taking an early retirement from his prestigious chemical enginnering job after Sept. 11.

Duffy also challenged Ata’s testimony regarding what Rezko told him about Karl Rove and an Illinois GOP operative, Robert Kjellander, plotting to replace Chicago U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald. Duffy asked Ata, “you believe Tony Rezko could actually influence President Bush?” Ata, replied, “No.” Duffy followed by saying, “Well, the president chooses the U.S. attorney, right?” Ata replied, “Yes.”

“So you’re suggesting that Mr. Rezko had the influence and power to influence the president?” Ata replied, “Tony Rezko informed me that Bob Kjellander was working with Karl Rove to change the U.S. attorney in Chicago.” Karl Rove’s attorney denies this claim.”

________________

“Former White House aide Karl Rove is being linked to a conspiracy surrounding Tony Rezko’s corruption trial.

The connection was made early this morning, when prosecutors told a U.S. district judge they want to call to the stand a former Illinois state official named Ali Ata.

Prosecutors say Ata — who pleaded guilty to corruption charges on Tuesday — can testify to conversations he had with Rezko about efforts to stop the criminal investigation.

Prosecutors say the plan was for Republican National Committee member Robert Kjellander to work with Rove to have U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald fired. Getting rid of Fitzgerald would allow them to find someone else so that “individuals who have been cooperating in the investigation will be dealt with differently.”

Rove attorney Robert Luskin says Rove “does not recall” Kjellander ever speaking to Rove about removing Fitzgerald, and Rove never has spoken to anyone at the White House or Justice Department about removing Fitzgerald.”

Sorry to burden you with facts. Santorum has only won caucus States and Beauty contests. In total vote count he is 3rd. Paul's and Santorun’s total vote count don't even come up to Newt's, much less Mitt's. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/republican_vote_count.html

Thx!

I have an idea it is probably not “suspicious” ...likely more a matter of the admin moderator scanning the thread and not realizing we were not a bunch of “PaulBots.” It's understandable that; because the “mods” have to review a lot of posts, sometimes mistakes happen due to the pressures of the job. Never-the-less, it's REALLY FRUSTRATING trying to inform and organize Conservatives only to fall victim to “friendly fire.”

It wasn't my thread; so, I don't know whether the originator ever complained or not; however, after the thread was “pulled” it never reappeared to the best of my knowledge.

‘Take care,

-Geoff
